"Burton to this Taylor" is about Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor who were a famous Hollywood couple. They got married and divorced a couple of times. She's basically saying that the relationship in the song is very tumultuous like they were. This video was NOT for a film, but many of her videos are like mini-movies they are that cinematic and good.
To add to your comment, Elizabeth Taylor had such a reputation as a repeat divorcee that it’s still being discussed today, which made it the perfect choice for Taylor Swift, with her (undeserved, imo) reputation to reference. Richard Burton was an actor, as was Swift’s boyfriend at the time of the Reputation album. Elizabeth Taylor was married 8 times to 7 men, with Burton being the only man she married twice. She also divorced him twice, so it’s not as if he was her one true love in the end, which I think adds something to the song, too. She’s acknowledging that the relationship isn’t one that ends in happily ever after, but there was something there worth giving a second chance regardless.
@@donaldcase4716the fact that she will start working on her cinematographic career after the eras tour starts is mind boggling, like how do you just finish the biggest tour of all time and go directly at something else? This woman never catches a rest!
Probably one of the few artists who can go from country to rapping and still sound like herself. It's an MV about Tay setting herself free from herself, or her old persona. Becoming a badass. Like she wasn't already, but now she's more of a badass.
Terell, I swear the entire Reputation Tour felt like it was written as a bad ass musical. She’s VERY visual and enacts all the songs. If you get a chance you should react to something from the Reputation Stadium Tour. I’d recommend I Did Something Bad, Don’t Blame Me or King of My Heart. (I’d recommend the entire concert.) The concert opens with “Ready For It?” And we were not.
Love your recommendations! I've admired much of what I've heard about TS over the years (minus the BS), but not her music because my go-to music is very hard rock so I didn't bother to listen. The Eras tour put her back on my music radar so I decided (finally) to check out what the big deal was. The first video I clicked on was a live version of "Ready For It?". I was shook. It's the first video I show other people now.
@@amandabennett8346 If you like her more rock kind of style music, you should check out "I Knew You Were Trouble" and "We are never ever getting back together (rock version)", both live from her 1989 tour!
Burton to this Taylor is a reference to Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton's relationship in the 60's and 70's......the "Epic Romance" that developed on set while filming Cleopatra. Married and divorced each other twice and it has been claimed that they were each others great love until their deaths, even though they were married to others when they dies.
Yes public fights, worked together, married and divorced several times, affairs, alcohol problems But both Hollywood stars who were so good at their craft.
I just thought of it as a clever lyric, but I was aware of their very rocky relationship (Taylor and Burton). They married and divorced twice. I'm wondering now why Taylor used that lyric. Taylor included so many sweet love songs to Joe on Reputation. I perceived their first couple of years as totally in love with one another and really happy, and this was written somewhere in the first year or two. If you look at the astrology of their signs as a couple, they will feel like soul mates at first and be incredibly close and infatuated, which has always been my perception. But then as they start to realize the differences in their personalities, they start to have problems. She wrote Lover around the 3-year mark and said this year it was a denial song, which immediately rang true to me. She was a musical guest on SNL when Lover came out and she played Lover on the piano and sang it with a different style. It was such a beautiful performance. Watching it, I was sure Joe was in the audience. A couple times she looked way over to the right side of the audience. Doing that, and also singing the song, she sounded so wistful, almost pleading. I especially noticed it when she said she'd had him three summers and she wanted them all. I'm not saying this in a criticism AT ALL, but I'm an empath and I pick up even slight nuances. It came across to me that she was pleading for that to happen (during the performance), but already knew it wasn't going to or was unlikely. Even her looks towards him felt like she was looking for his acceptance and love. I think at least the last 3+ years, they were struggling, and I don't know how long prior to that. There were little things she'd said that always gave me the impression he was very self-centered and expected her to fit into his life vs him really expecting to fit into hers. You can be a really good person (I think he is), and still be self-centered. I think the difference in cultures between England and America is also a big factor.
Hi Terrell, just a note from this old timer, :) Burton to Taylor means Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. Two Hollywood actors who met in the 1960's while they were filming the movie Cleopatra. They married and had a very tempestuous and romantic relationship. They divorced and later remarried and divorced again. She was one of the most beautiful women in the world, you should look up her picture, she actually had real "violet" eyes a real rarity. He was a. phenomenal actor. Really like how you dive into the lyrics.
You should watch the live version of Intro + Ready For It if you want the best version of this song. Her videos are awesome but her stage presence is amazing.
You really do Taylor's eras tour. The live is so much more awesome. They way she performs, runs the stage & sucks her audience in. It's unbelievable for real.
@@SparkimusPrime You can watch the live streams though of the remaining 18 concerts! I watched all the streams from Europe and it's so much fun. You really get a feel for the concert. It depends on who's filming, because the streams just come from willing concert goers who film usually with their phones so some aren't good and some are really good. But it's still fun. I personally think I like listening from home more because the crowd is so LOUD. I want to hear Taylor's beautiful voice!
hmm, guess I'm late to this party. Good place to start; all her music videos are cinematic, even off her first record. She got into the action film spoof with Bad Blood; this is either her take on anime or sci fi video games (or both). Videos from Reputation and 1989 albums were mostly with Joseph Kahn as director. They are all very different. Burton: Taylor is something of a history buff, and super interested in pop culture. As you listen to different songs, you'll find she's tucked a few references in to things (or people) worth knowing about. There are some similarities in the degree of fame she has, with that earlier Taylor from the 1950s / 1960s. A Taylor Swift album starter pack should include: a dictionary, a phone or separate tab of lyrics, a box of tissues and your choice of beverage. The girl reactors sort it all out with wine. 👏🏻👏🏻 I don't drink, so I go with coffee. **historical note ** In the '60s, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor were two of the top box office draws in Hollywood. A theater (cinema, not a live stage) was the only place to watch a good film ---- your television resolution was 525 lines, at 30 frames per second. TV didn't change its format in the US until digital TV finally replaced analog in the new millenium. During that extended period (almost 70 years) of low resolution TV, Hollywood and its stars ruled the gossip pages. Burton and Taylor between them made many top films; they were passionate, jealous, flamboyant, extravagant, volatile. So, they married, then divorced, repeat a few times. Years of gossip ---- and, ad revenue, and free promotion ---- all before any social media existed. Singers (Roy Rodgers, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Elvis) often did films back then to showcase their talents and add more exposure (and, Hollywood paid better than record labels --- if you were the star).
