Should the bike not be on the sidestand when you tighten the chain? When you tighten it to 1 inch with the wheel off the ground the chain will be way too tight when the weight of the bike is back on the ground.

wheel is off the ground but there is still weight on the rear suspension.....a rear stand only takes the rear wheel of the ground and bike upright
