    Hey guys! On Weekend Wankshop 176, Uncle Ben Eller here is gonna bring you all a complete lesson (as promised) on how to play the sweet guitar solo from the new 2018 Ghost song "Rats"! As soon as i watched the video for this song, i loved it. I've been hooked on this band ever since Opus Eponymous. Love the outro riff in this tune, and i knew i had to learn how to play that solo as soon as i heard it!
    Like most Ghost songs, this is in D standard tuning ( D G C F A D), so be sure to tune down. It's got some of the most challenging stuff the Nameless Ghouls have laid down, so good luck! Don't forget to find the tab on my instagram page @BenEllerGuitars
    Thanks for watching! What would YOU like to see covered on the next installment of WW?

    I love your lessons Uncle Ben. You're the father figure on guitar I never had, which is why I'm merely a "guitar person" and not a "guitar man".
    I digress though. As much as I enjoy Weekend Wankshop, I could use more videos on Why I Suck At Guitar. Maybe a second-part to that super-cool "chords in a key" video you did a while back?

    I feel “Rats” is like if Ozzy, Maiden and Alice Cooper had a love child with Ghost. The “interlude” and the solo is very Maiden-y. I’ll be honest; I was expecting something a little more like Con Clavi, but I can’t stop listening to Rats! It’s so damn catchy.

      MegaThrasher95 I think the rest of the album Is a little darker, reading the tracks titles. Also, there are two 5 mins instrumentals!

    Live the Ghoul plays that fast ascending luck in the 7th position. Same notes and it doesn’t really matter.
    Tobias plays the guitars in the studio so he may have played the lick accenting the B string. It sounds like it to me too.

    • @BenEller
      @BenEller  6 лет назад +1

      David Sollenberger yeah exactly! Ascending on the B string is the most tonally even, which sounds the most like the album to me, too.

    Youre the coolest Ben. I have also been playing the 2nd grouping at the 7th and 9th fret. And it does sound good there but im def learning your way. Why not? Get around that neck! Thanks

    Hey Uncle ben, when putting the new thicker gauge for d standard on the guitar, do you need to adjust the truss rod or intonation?

    • @BenEller
      @BenEller  6 лет назад +2

      good question. For me, a guitar that is set up for standard with 9's going to D with 10's requires little to no adjustment. Maybe a little intonation tweak, if anything.

    Hey uncle Ben! I wonder, if you could do some more challenging stuff again in future videos. I mean, it's all cool what you're doing and I really enjoy watching your videos. But since some time, it seems like it's getting easier and easier. Up to the point where it's actually not really necessarry to have a lesson for it. I'm not talking about all that "impossible" stuff, which most of us can't do yet, since you surely want to adress to a wider range of players/levels. What about some new licks or approaches to create some? Or theory things etc. To me, this is the more useful "lesson stuff". But who am I?! ;) Just a humble suggestion. ;) Cheers!

    so there is a common anti-Ghost attitude amongst many metalheads. And I honestly can't understand why - I assume it's their fame that causes many to become haters

  • @canman87
    @canman87 6 лет назад +1

    Eh, I don't know about this one. Solo seems kind of uninspired next to a lot of the other material you've covered, but I suppose that's just my taste.
    I'd be interested in seeing your approach to the arpeggio section in the "chorus" of Revocation's "A Debt Owed to the Grave." I just recently learned that song and I've found that that particular section has some of the strangest fingering for an arpeggio that I think I've ever encountered.
