Buying a new car when you have one that is perfectly operational is a rookie move. I got a used 1998 F250 in 2005 and drove it up until 2017 when I got my Jeep. The truck still runs too. My nephew drives it daily. Though we did have to rebuild the motor and replace the block heater, that truck has survived three generations of family and a lot of road trips.
I'm jealous! I drove my 2007 F-150 for almost 17 years before I had to part with her. It was just getting too expensive to put tires, etc. on her. It was a sad day when I traded her in because she worked hard- pulling horse trailers through mid and snow along with commuting to work. I got a new truck but I'm not feeling it. Too many gadgets, gizmos and beeps going off. I want my big old red "girlfriend" back!!!

I’m married to a mechanic who also loves classic cars. He has said on many occasions that MOST older vehicles aren’t beyond fixing. Even ones with high mileage can still have years of use. The mileage alone doesn’t determine the state of the vehicle. He says that most vehicles aren’t beyond saving. He has a couple of classic cars that are in mint condition because he takes care of them and does regular maintenance on them. As long as the vehicle owner has it serviced properly and keeps up with maintenance, then the vehicle will last. In fact, it’s the newer vehicles that breaking down and causing major issues. When the computer system in the vehicles crashes, it can render the vehicle absolutely useless and nothing can be repaired. Newer cars aren’t made to last like the old ones. Just like everything else, the quality of the materials the car manufacturers use is so cheap because they DON’T want the vehicles to last long. They WANT you to have to buy the new ones. He refuses to buy a new vehicle because the cost is insane even just a basic baseline vehicle and also because of how many horrible drivers there are now. And the number of them is rapidly increasing. We alway buy used for those exact reasons. The “flex” that Shamtal and BrokeMomma are trying to go for isn’t what the flex they think it is. BrokeMomma is probably jealous that he can’t get a vehicle because he snorts all his money away instead lol.
Mechanic here and he's 100% correct. I've got a 86 Toyota that's still up and running. Its got 200k miles on it. Every old car is salvageable because you can easily change out engines. In new cars it's a NIGHTMARE because everything has a sensor that needs the computer system to recognize it. 80% of the probs I see in New cars are computer glitches. The other 20% are faulty rear ends/transmissions. Volkswagen being the WORST... do not buy a Volkswagen lol

Evvvvverything was so overpriced, I picked up a very used & even kinda beat up 2009 ex cop car/Crown Victoria with quite a lot of miles on 'er. Check eng light on & everything (tho, had it checked out & they said it was something for when they took police equip out & put actual back seats in.. fault w/ back seat-belts causing it. They reset it but kept going back on) Anyway.... figured I'd drive it 'until' I could find something better, less expensive. Bonus, turned out it uses Flex-fuel E-85 & have never paid over $1.79/gallon!!!! Needless to say, the shit will not die. Have not had to have one repair, nothing... runs like a CHAMP to this day. Doesn't look the greatest, but I have zero payments & it is what it is. :) Enjoy that 312k as long as it lasts. :)

His current car is a rare 2010 gold edition Lincoln MKZ that he got with 65,000 miles on it. It belonged to an elderly couple in Florida who barely drove it. Compared to Chantal’s 2025 Tigo his 2010 Lincoln is still a better car.

Subaru also donates to different charities, including the ASPCA, and has a low carbon footprint. You buy a car to last, not to look cool. If you want to look cool, you’re going to be stuck in a flaming car, needing a narcissistic billionaire to care enough to let the doors unlock…..which is, to me personally, my idea of hell. Good on FFG, seriously. Save for the house. A good car, is a rarity. Take care of it, and treasure it.
We're a subaru family, 4 of the siz of us all own our sub'. Legacy, impressa, baja (mine) and a newer one i can't name but it's git that weird new transmission

I've also got an old Toyota Sienna minivan-so uncool, it's looped back around to being cool-that I use to haul furniture and building materials, and occasionally camp in, and it's been another excellent pick.
