    Ahhh, finally a tutorial that shows how to hem curtains in a non-permanent way, no cutting, sewing machine or hem tape! I live in an apartment with baseboards and I will absolutely want my curtains back to their proper full length for one day when I have my own home, so I didn't want anything permanent that would require me to re-purchase down the line. Your tutorial showed me every step & question I might've needed answered and you've helped me so much, thank you!

    Very useful! And great video too!
    I think I'll give it a go myself next weekend, I'm just afraid that the sewing won't hold the weight of the hem since I got full-length curtains for a simple window, therefore the new hem would be like 3' or more!
    I'll update this comment to let all of you know how the operation went ; )

    The design mags seem to promote curtains that billow down all over the floor, for the look of it. Seems so terribly unpractical unless one prefers one's curtains to double as a dust mop. Lol. .... You sew beautifully, nicely practiced.

      I agree. Trying to drag the curtains closed & arrange them is a nightmare. Thank you!

    I love the idea with the ironing board and not taking them off the rod, but when she showed the back hemming, I just didn't like how that came out, even though it was nicely done in the front, the back looked terrible. My curtains need to be placed in an area where we constantly walk in and out, the hemming would come off after several movements and the back will show when you walk in. Imagine when you wash them in a dryer too.

    Hi Emma, great video! I hung my new curtains today and they are about a foot length too long.(I liked them so i bought them 😁) shall i cut them first then hem? They are quite thick. Thank you

    • @EmmaSandy
      @EmmaSandy  3 года назад +1

      Hi Alison, if you can iron them flat and the length stays up, I'd be tempted to not cut them. The extra weight can make some curtains hang well and look expensive. But, maybe a foot of very heavy material is worth a chop. If it's too thick, making them hang like dead weight, I would cut them. I'd measure all the way along (marking with pencil or pins) if you do decide to cut so they're not squint! Best of luck.

    hell, thank you so much for this video. Can i just skip the ironing part? we don't have an iron board and we just use the steam type of iron huhu. please reply thank you

    • @EmmaSandy
      @EmmaSandy  3 года назад +1

      Hi Yvony, yes you can skip ironing the seam. Heavy curtains should look totally fine. If it needs pressed down, you could try hair straighteners if you have them. Very slowly pressing for 20 seconds along the edge using a medium heat. Maybe give the plates a wipe down first if the curtains are light coloured.
      To hand sew without an ironing board, I would sit facing the curtain and turn the pinned ends up onto my knee to sew them. Or you could take the curtains off down. Hope this helps!
