    My first BA buy was the Brit starter army and the Churchill. It was all my game store had left for BA at half price since not many people play in my area. After some research I realized the AVRE was powerful but I didn't realize how effective it would be at erasing units/buildings until my 1st game with it. It was a 2v2 with friends, and we are all kinda new to BA. The map was a town with lots of buildings and their infantry were all in buildings taking cover from our infantry at this point. They moved a Soviet sniper team into a house for cover close by. I took my first shot and just Thanos snapped the house with the whole unit inside. It was a real "Oh #%$@" moment, especially since they had 2 big infantry units in the same 2 story building near by. The poor souls couldn't get out in time before I leveled it on my next shot...

    Honorable mention to the SAS Armoured Jeep (from errata document), which has a lot of weird rules interactions in your favor. The “Frontal armour” special rule doesn’t actually make it an armoured vehicle, merely meaning that it “cannot be damaged by small arms hits from the frontal arc” : Tank Hunters doesn’t work on it, MMGs of any kind don’t work on it (the weapons chart gives a definition of small arms), and you can still field it under FireFight/Academy of Street Fighting rules since it doesn’t have “an armour value of 7+ or better”. 75 points for 2 MMG and recce is OK too.

    This makes a point in reality that’s rather interesting: 3:23ish. When fighting infantry, you need no more than a machine gun typically. More machine guns can be nice but a machine gun that they can’t kill easily is very very effective. It being cheap too is great. Hence why panzer 1 was very adequate for the invasion of France.

    I quite like the Staghound AA. Vulnerable due to open topped, but 2xHMG & 1xMMG and recce, puts out a few dice.

    The French have many vehicles of their own and cannot be found anywhere else. In addition Mad Bob Miniatures or Warlord game offer a large choice. And the look of French vehicles is characteristic.Laffly S20TL,B1 BIS, Somua , FCM 2C, Citroen Kegresse P19 VLTT ,FCM36, Panhard 178,Renault UE, lorainne 37,berliet VUBD or Unic P107.

    Nice, I’ve barely played BA but I’m making an army now. I’m doing my Churchill as an AVRE because it’s just an amazing vehicle more than anything else. Basically everything I’ve bought is because I like the history and look rather than how it plays. Having the AVRE be good is a nice wee bonus.

    As the owner of a Humber Mk IV, I'll note that the pictured vehicle is a MK IV with the 37mm Cannon (US M5 or M6 with semi-automatic breech). Not a Mk 2 which would have the 15mm BESA along side the (on all marks 7.62mm BESA coax).

    Great video, I tend to play 8th Army, so like the Humber II and Bishop combo in the reinforced platoon, and leave the hard AT to the static 6lb. Sadly the Bishop has been slightly nerfed in a Warlord rules erratta, so the AT shells are now a +10 points upgrade option.

      Ah I missed the Centaur. Looks like the exact same thing as the M4 105 or the Cromwell CS without the 10pt tax. Good eye. As for the AVRE I think its one of the best ways to take a Heavy Howitzer in the game. Few factions can get them on affordable tanks under 350 points.

    Interesting video with great summaries of the vehicles concerned. If wishing to play historically though you'd definitely need to check the availability of the vehicle(s) in question to your given force and theatre. The Churchill AVRE might well be one of the top vehicles 'stat' wise but very few British troops would have ever seen one let alone been deployed with them operationally.

    Warlord have the Cromwell written wrongly in the book. The Mk VII had the 75mm and the Mk VIII had the 95mm howitzer. It doesn't make a difference in game of course but they should get the historical facts right before printing

    Awesome video, I'm struggling however, to find some of these historically in the North African setting. Which of these would you say are best that I could get away with being in North Africa historically? I know you have an 8th army your self from your other video so I'd really value your advice as a new player.

      Here’s a simple breakdown of what tanks they had for those roles:
      Eary Africa: A-10 and A-9 Cruiser and Matilda Mk I Infantry Tank
      Mid Africa: Crusader Mk II Cruiser and Matilda Mk II Infantry Tank
      Late Africa: Valentine Cruiser Tank Churchill III Infantry Tank

    Has anyone tried that one Italian tank - the M14 I think it was - I know Italian tanks maybe weren't great historically, but in terms purely of the game, I was thining there could be som value in that tank that gets something stupid like 2 Hull MMGs and a Double MMG in turret and can even have a cupola one so like 5 MMG's! I mean if it gets to fire that's pretty good anti infantry capability, no?

  • @17blaziken
    @17blaziken 3 года назад +3

    Note: actually, that's not how a "cannot shots at long range" weapon work.
    If a weapon has this trait, it's range is considered to be half of the original.
    So, an heavy howitzer, which is 72(36-72) with half range at 36, with the trait became 36(36-72), so it's in half range at 18".
    This is listed in the faq, and apply to avre, sturmtiger, stuff with stielgrenade, etc...

      Bolt Action Errata update now says
      "Could you clarify how the AVRE mortar is used? I am not clear
      about the long distance in indirect fire."
      The Petard mortar can only be fired at targets within short range,
      that is within 36", so it cannot be fired indirectly at all.
      here it says can olny fire within short range - plus they list the actual range of the weapon at 72" - so I would say you don't suffer the -1 to hit for long range

    Im confused, as a noob to bolt action. A 25pdr has the same explosive power as a 76.2 howitzer, is that a rules thing or is a real 25pdr closer to a 76 than i thought? I always thought the 17pdr was 76.2mm and thus the 25pdr was a 105

    • @hammer1349
      @hammer1349 11 месяцев назад

      The 6pdr, 17pdr etc designation is based in the weight of the shell. The weight of the shell increases exponentially as the size of it increases. The 17pdr is 76.2mm but the 20pdr is only 84mm. The 32pdr on the tortoise was only 94mm. Square cubed law and all that. All things considered the 25pdr is basically a light howitzer/medium anti tank gun
