I dont believe that there's such laws, it's all a state of mind... people wanting to feel that they are better than other human beings. We are all the same, came into this world as a baby, and will die and be buried in the same size casket. There's another channel with Pham Thu and Officer Van Nam, and he is shredding this status quo to pieces, he is fight for the person he loves regardless of the status quo, he has moved out of his mother's house to stay with Pham in a Bamboo Hut with dirt floor and flooding because he want to be with the person he chose, not what his mother chose for him. So this guy, if he really loves and respects this hardworking single mother, step up to the place and show the world that he chose her and no one else will make that decision for him.
Come to think of it, i dont think the house was too dirty for the old mother to return in, i think the young man wanted to spend time with the single mother. He seems a bit shy around her, but wants to visit her as much as possible and spend time with her and her son. I will try not to think badly of him. He has done a lot of things to help her and her son. I just wish the men in that culture were strong and assertive about their feelings and emotions towards someone they love regardless of what their mother/ parents opinion. We Westerners dont operate like that. We are bold enough to say how we feel and follow it with action.
