She was my childhood hero. She still is my hero. She will always be my hero.

She was correct in saying she rarely let the pressure affect her skating. Comparatively Debi Thomas fell apart under the pressure and scrutiny. Does this mean Katarina was a better skater? No. But there's a lesson to be learned here. When it's your turn to perform, how you do it is how you will be remembered.

For Debi she had "home ice advantage" but actually more pressure happened. Oh the outcome was in her control. The judges we're ready to score her fairly, but initially falling pretty much took the pressure off Katerina. Debi was a rare combination of power & beauty, which earlier Europe an skaters lacked. Oh what could've been. Debi's powerful Carmen v. Katerina's feminine interpretation.

I saw the footage from before the free skate. While Katarina was really calm and talked to other people, Debbie was standing around alone and you could see how the pressurised herself

I mean... actually it does. Performing under pressure is a huge part of what makes a great athlete. Not to mention Katarina has significantly more accolades as a skater overall excluding her performance at this Olympics.

I first watched her when I was 4 and continued watching her over and over just staring at that youtube screen going "wow" I wanna be like when I'm older. She's my first inspiration and I admire her still.

Katarina had made a deal with the East German government that she is only allowed to turn professional if she wins her 2nd Olympic gold, and she delivered. She didn't have Debi's difficulty of doing a triple-triple, but she hit when it counted whereas Debi didn't. Both were great skaters, but Katarina was the better competitor

So many people see the beauty and presence of Katarina Witt but she is clearly very eloquent and intelligent too.

Because debbi and katarina both danced to the music of the opera "carmen" by georges bizet
