I love this! I always feel like the fat I eat is the fat I wear no matter what diet I do! I love eating whole foods plant based so this is wonderful news!
Lived this sort of diet all my life and still piled on the weight with the menopause and still struggling to move it even with increased exercise and reduced food.
Many women become insulin resistant during menopause and reducing carbs a bit can help (like mostly avoiding grains and white starches and opt for starchy vegetables and legumes) along with intermittent fasting (minimum of 12 hours but no more than 16 hours overnight so as to not stress the body). You don't necessarily have to reduce calories...just reduce your eating window). And don't over-exercise. After a certain age, it can raise cortisol levels. Focus on walking and resistance training.
💙 Thank you...I realized that I have to change my whole way of not just eating but exercise as well. I'll be 53 next month. On a journey now!! Good years
Exercise was key for me, I hate exercise but when I started walking EVERY DAY, after about a month, it became my favorite time of the day. It never did when I tried walking 3-5 days a week before. Now I look forward to my morning walk every day! Just shy of 55 here.
It works, for sure, but it must be WHOLE foods, and NO sugar or alcohol, in my experience. No oil, sugar or alcohol. At least 50% non-starchy veg. It totally works!
I just watched a lecture by Dr. Garth Davis and it’s one that everyone should see. Next to Michael Greger and Neil Barnard, he’s my favorite. He said people in the Blue Zones eat mostly carbohydrates. Yet when he tells a patient to eat a baked potato for lunch with maybe some beans and salsa on top, they’re horrified. I never understood this irrational fear of carbs.
Thank you Sophie, always informative. I have been training for over 20 years. I’m almost 50 and really noticed I have to really focus on the food, you are so right. I love your videos ❤️
I am still struggling with the last 30 pounds. I am proud to say that as of 1/2/2021 I will have been refined sugar free for a year. Candy and pastries being my addiction. I have been very compliant eating wfpb this past year. Over 3 years I lost 80 pounds, wfpb for the last 2 years. I have taken an honest look at the amount of food I consume and believe I am still over eating. I have not gained any weight but I stopped losing last summer. My father passed away in September and I stopped trying to lose. I am going to track my food for a month to see what I consume and not limit my fruits and veggies as much as not eat gobs of grains and beans. My last final food addiction hurdle will be salt. Next year at this time I want to say I eat minimal salt. I do not have hypertension, but I do salt my food to make it taste better. I want the food to just taste good as it is. My taste buds have already improved so much. I really want to be at my goal weight by the end of 2021. And I believe with a few tweaks I can do it.
The stress of your father's death held your cortisol levels up in unhealthy ranges. Lowering cortisol alone will induce weight loss again. The body's fight or flight response HOLDS onto fat. I was vegan oil-free, gluten-free, no sugar - nothing fried (etc), and though I lost some weight (30pound over 6 months) I was very exhausted and took supplements to aid in this area - but didn't work. I did blood work and my A1C went up; in addition, I started to exercise more walking 45 mins/5 days plus added weights + resistance in the gym. It’d be interesting to see study with low-fat, plant focused (but not vegan) diet. Logic says that it would produce the same metabolism boosting effect as low-fat, vegan diet.
but saturated fat is essential, carbs/fiber are not. ruclips.net/video/AOU0hIiVaD0/видео.html ....... AND ....... ruclips.net/video/ZCkj0qJ0FDA/видео.html. We need a 'CAFO Meat Carnivore Diet from McDonalds without the Bun' ...versus a... 'Grass Fed/Finished - Nose to Tail Carnivore Diet' study done !!!! I'm so sick of Vegans using CAFO meat diet and its cytokine shitstorm as a reason to not eat a GRASS FINISHED NOSE TO TAIL DIET. They are VERY different diets and the latter provides ALL the nutrients humans need when including offal, suet, liver, heart etc. Hybridized broccoli and apples are NOT NORMAL. Fat and liver is!
I like to include both in the diet. Some veggies are better cooked, and some better raw (in terms of nutrient absorption). Veggies are rarely, if ever inflammatory for the body. And lectins can be protective against certain cancers. The most inflammatory diet is one that contains animal products - at least this is what meta analysis of all available nutritional science to date bears out.
Hello Sophie! I don't have insurance so I can't afford blood work. I'm about that age now and I'm starting to lose my hair on the sides of my bang area. Also wanted to comment that hypothyroidism if VERY common in women now. And it can lead to weight gain. This is why it's even more important to make sure that you (or she) is eating the best diet for maintaining an ideal weight, long term.
@@SophieUlianoGorgeouslyGreen ... which includes clean organic animal proteins and animal fat. Low fat diets work for 6 months and then many peoples' health falls apart. ESPECIALLY IN WOMEN. Animal fat is critical for optimal health for women with thyroid imbalance.
Hello, I'm bummed to hear that vegan is the focus of this first half of the video and it's not refreshing for me. Vegan is actually cutting out foods groups and is a diet that your stick to and it doesn't feel like a mindset but a way of obeying another diet. I'm sorry Sophie but low fat is not healthy and usually means more added sugar.
She’s talking about a vegan diet that is mainly processed vegan foods, vegan junk foods & very little Whole Foods hope that helps ☺️ she’s not anti vegan
Lolol...if by ancestors you mean "caveman" they hunted and built and walked and plowed and planted and harvested and moved ... they didn't eat the processed animals and dairy that we do. They are meat rarely bc it was not accessible,or as time moved along, it was expensive, and if they did eat beef it was from their own farm, from the grass fed field, not a corn fed food lit shot with drugs, Every food " ancestors" ate was completely different than today. From dairy to meat to wheat. Even our fruit and vegetables have less nutrients today.. check out the China study.

🧡💛💚💙💜Nope!! ANY diet is better than the control group (n=122) who made no diet changes and kept on eating their sodas, churros and chips (high inflammation). Calorie reduction was ULTIMATELY their diet and that also works in a Carnivore Diet or a Fat Fast. Postprandial metabolism is also present in high protein/meat or fat diets. Insulin reduction in any of these diets is where the weight loss comes from. Sophie, you need to be more critical when reading scientific studies. I was a vegan for 4 years and a vegetarian for 15 and was extremely anemic and needed two blood infusions. A diet void of heme iron is nonsense.... AND DANGEROUS!! Also high cortisol levels and antibiotics even up to 5 years prior cause malabsorption and SIBO in a HUGE population of the Western world, which is most likely the cause of the inability to lose weight after 50.Omiting grass finished meat from the diet doesn't magically cause weight loss. Tell me about it! Still trying to get my iron in check after being anemic and not eating that much meat for years. Hemme supplements and more meat has brought my energy up dramatically but still a long ways to go. I get exhausted just passing by the vegan section in the supermarket. Can’t do that again. Ferritin was at 11 two months ago and waiting fir lab results. Agree completely
K - I always follow meta-analysis of all available evidence-based studies to date. I would love to see peer-reviewed (non-industry funded) studies on lack of HEME iron being dangerous. And as far as meat being able to heal gut health - I highly recommend you follow 2 gastroenterologist theplantfedgut.com/ www.alandesmond.com/ 2 highly respected medical doctors who have treated and healed patients with Crohns, SIBO etc. You are right, we have to be able to heal our gut to be able to absorb nutrients. And those with serious gut issues should always consult with a gastroenterologist before embarking on any nutritional protocol.

Can’t do Vegan because I cannot have legumes, wheat and soy. Those are some of the biggest sources of protein so not able to get enough protein in.
It’d be interesting to see study with low-fat, plant focused (but not vegan) diet. Logic says that it would produce the same metabolism boosting effect as low-fat, vegan diet.
how are you
Hello there. How are you doing ??
Hello beautiful how are you doing today I hope you are having a good day off do tell me how is health and work how is the weather over there!!!!!
but saturated fat is essential, carbs/fiber are not. ruclips.net/video/AOU0hIiVaD0/видео.html ....... AND ....... ruclips.net/video/ZCkj0qJ0FDA/видео.html.
What’s your opinion on raw vs. cooked vegetables? Is raw better for weight loss?
I like to include both in the diet. Some veggies are better cooked, and some better raw (in terms of nutrient absorption). Veggies are rarely, if ever inflammatory for the body. And lectins can be protective against certain cancers. The most inflammatory diet is one that contains animal products - at least this is what meta analysis of all available nutritional science to date bears out.

Hello Sophie! I don't have insurance so I can't afford blood work. I'm about that age now and I'm starting to lose my hair on the sides of my bang area. I've also been dealing with perioral dermatitis which took me awhile to have diagnosed. I'm not overweight but I'm gaining weight in my belly area and on my arms. I do light weight training and yoga. I already eat a plant based diet so I'm at a loss and i really don't want to lose anymore hair either 😕
Any tips, suggestions or advice? 🙏🏼
*Btw, I hear choline helps with fatty liver* (?)
I am sorry to be so late in replying. Hair loss can be associated with thyroid and aging. See if you can get some basic blood work done to test your thyroid so you can rule that out.

Hi Sophie, I’d be so interested to have a one-on-one consultation with you on if having hypothyroidism or hashimotos might affect the overall diet make up to help with this. My mum has experienced weight gain of 3stone since she has hit menopause and really trying to find ways to combat it
Yasmin, I'd love to hop a call with you! Have you booked yet?
Also wanted to comment that hypothyroidism if VERY common in women now. And it can lead to weight gain. This is why it's even more important to make sure that you (or she) is eating the best diet for maintaining an ideal weight, long term.

Can you make video and please talk about HRT or bioidentical hormone? Did you use, you are so beautiful and tight.
My wife may have some pointers as well
Aways thought you need more protien and calcium as you Get older.
🙌
I listened with great interest as a vegan going through the menopause and gaining belly fat, stopped at vegan diet is unhealthy, that’s no help to me.
She’s talking about a vegan diet that is mainly processed vegan foods, vegan junk foods & very little Whole Foods hope that helps ☺️ she’s not anti vegan
Talk too much, .... get to the 👉
Our ancestors were not vegan and they were not overweight...vegan is not the answer...

I was vegan for many years and I became too tired and no energy so I had to quit!
Me too, I was a vegan for 2 years and I felt sick at the end, so now I eat “normal” again😊
Ditto! And highly anemic
Yes - vegan can be unhealthy - there's a way to do it to make sure you have energy. And that means making sure you have all the nutrients you need.
Besides selling yourself, what makes you qualified as a professional to give advice? I don't see that information here.
So much words :((
@@SophieUlianoGorgeouslyGreen I have a Functional Medicine RD at my doctor's office who took me off plant matter (based on science) and who also recently sent me this video to add to my library.
