  • Yet another antique gem in Milwaukee's Third Ward. This building has an interesting pair of passenger elevators already, but this freighter is something else! I came here once before I filmed this video and tried to ride the freight elevator, but it was parked on the first floor (I couldn't get to it there) and wouldn't come down to the lower level where I was trying to call it from.

A well maintained and oiled fright elevator still in service 110 yrs later very quiet. A bit surprised it's not roped 2:1 with a 5000# capacity.

I've been in a freight elevator when I worked in a grocery store. That thing freaked me out.

So when they need parts where do they come from

I have no idea, I’d imagine like parts taken from other elevators that are broken or decommissioned.

I'm not an elevator tech, but I've worked on a lot of old construction and automotive applications from that time period. In those days, the design is often overbuilt and very simple. Newer models are often based on older ones, so parts can be retrofitted, or in rare cases, they will hire a machineshop with the tooling to make whatever part they need.

Lol, it’s a public building but there were people working in rooms with the doors open around the elevator on the lower level and I didn’t want to disturb them
