This just shows the importance of trout fishing ......Look at this excitement . Go catch these fish in a remote location by yourself and you will never be the same
Now that, definitely, reminds me of the late 70's and early 80's when I was a kid. Trout season began, I think, on the first Saturday in March. Everybody and their brother was lined up along the bank to get going at daylight. The game wardens would blow whistles to let everyone know it was legal time to fish. Then... The crossing of the lines ensured. And it was just accepted that lines were going to get crossed and snagged. Few people got angry. If they did, they either left or were told to shut up.
That’s exactly how it was here! Shotgun went off at 6:30 and it was a trout beat down and line tangling fiasco the next couple of hours! The fish went from really dumb to Albert Einstein in a very short amount of time haha
Great to see Roaring River in the video. That was the first place I ever fished as a child and caught a fish. Crazy enough as it may be, JD Dudley who owns and developed D2 jigs, that you caught the big trout on, and his father were with us there for a church trip. That is where my love of fishing started and led me to working in the fishing industry. Also, it’s not always that crazy there that is a special weekend for the trout season opener. I would hate for people to think it’s not a great place to go.
That’s awesome, those D2 jigs are money! Roaring river definitely did not disappoint! We had no idea it was going to be that crazy out there, but we are very glad we went! Hope to make it an annual thing! Thanks for watching!
Thanks!!! Glad to hear you enjoyed this one. This place was so crazy but a ton of fun to visit! We hope to make this trip an annual thing! Appreciate you watching!
Thank you guys so much for taking me along, I believe Jay's trout were larger! I've never seen a fishery so large, I would've just liked to have been there to seen them stock it! God Bless you and your little family! (Glen). WV.

This was our first time going to opening day there and it was definitely a wild but memorable experience! We definitely want to make it an annual trip!!
Come down to West Virginia starting March 29th for the Annual Gold Rush event and fish for some beautiful trout with the Trout Magnet. I know I love the Trout & Crappie Magnet
Once, long long ago, while working with a client construction superintendent in Eastern Kentucky, near Lake Cumberland, we decided to go trout fishing. As we drove into the park area on the down stream side of the dam a state fisheries restocking truck passed us on the way out. Fishing with small Mepps spinners each of us caught our limit in about 15 minutes. Of course, being just released hatchery trout they were all small compared to yours, but no doubt tasted just as good. That was a nice stringer of rainbows!😊 Good to see Jay hanging in there! Baby girl will be here before you know it.😊
That's just like going to a State Fish Hatchery and plopping a bait into one of their rearing ponds or raceways... or fishing the fall run of Chinook, Coho, or Steelhead at the Salmon River in Pulaski, NY!! Not my kind of fishing, but you all surely had a great day of catching. And those wraps!!!! And I haven't had my dinner yet!!! Really nice to see Jay's mommy X-2 tummy showing it's face. And so glad that she has a cozy chair to rest in... all she needed was a hassock and her fuzzy slippers!! Her face was so aglow... lovely.
Yeah these were all stocked fish and it was an absolutely crazy experience. It was difficult to manage the crowd but we still had a great time! We’ll probably do it again next year!
@@COLE_and_JAY That one guy looked like was going to shuffle right into your footsteps while you were unhooking one fish. I thought, "DARN vultures!!"... But I think he was the same guy who cooked your fish....oops, me!!
I fished ther 5 years in a row back in the 90s it was so cold that early in the morning, the Mayer was pouring coffee, still have three little mugs from opening day. Good memories!😊
Opening day at Roaring River is the aquatic version of the Macy's Thanksgiving parade. I went there 5 years in a row back in the early 90's. It is indeed insane, but the opportunity to catch a 5-10lb rainbow brings fisherman from hundreds of miles. Since they release some fish is October to spawn naturally there are a few giants in the river on opening day. Most of the year stocker size is the main fare. Have a blessed day. Love your adventures.
It was definitely a crazy fishing experience! We hope to make it up there again next year for the opener and maybe go back later this year when it’s not as crazy haha
It really was a spectacle seeing all of these fishermen in one spot! At daylight there were lines and trout flying everywhere! We had a great time! Thanks for watching!

Here in Washington State, EVERYTHING I catch is used for tacos! Salmon, trout, steelhead, walleye, bass, perch, crappie, sturgeon, lingcod, halibut, rockfish, and I'm sure I'm leaving SOMETHING out. I've fished this place a couple of times but not on opening day. There wasn't nowhere near as many people. You should go up to the cave and the hatchery. You can even fish down river outside the park and catch trout. You need to work harder for them. They also have a nice restaurant up at the lodge. We stayed in one of the cabins. It was a lot of fun.
🎯🎯👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻I hope you took the time to go look at the "Big Boys' in the upper pool where they don't let you fish... They've got some monsters. That water's cold... you oughta go for a swim downstream in Roaring River... Been there done that when I was a kid. Great video.
@@COLE_and_JAY I camped there as a kid with my folks in the summer of '67... (if that tells you anything) ..... Went back in high school and fished 6hrs straight and only caught one fish.(And I'm not a bad fisherman.... it can just be that tough) After they've already seen every lure known to man for a few weeks it can really tough fishin'. It's so frustrating to see them in the crystal clear water swim up to your lure and stare at it. I found your channel a few months ago and really enjoy your videos a lot. Blessings on you guys and your growing family.🙏🏻
Once when I was young we went there and I was walking on the sidewalk which is up from the river a little way. I wasn't used to fly fishing and as I was walking I kept hearing "zip, zip, zip". I kept looking around not knowing what it was. Then i realized it was the fishing lines flying back all around me. It was amazing I didn't get hooked by at least one. Needless to say I walked back to the car farther away from the river.
When the alarm went off saying it was time to fish at 6:30am there were lines and fish going everywhere. We are surprised we didn’t witness anyone getting hooked! I’m sure there had to have been some casualties with how many folks were there 😂
Reminds me of steelhead. Run in Michigan. Shoulder to shoulder on the bank, when someone hooked one everyone near would reel in and actually help the lucky angler with netting or whatever. Those lake run trout were big and strong!! There was tangled lines etc but most keep their cool
Haha it’s crazy how in some places this overcrowding is 100% acceptable by everyone there. It’s a weird but fun atmosphere. It’s like pier fishing x1000 😂
Dang y'all where only 30 minutes from me 😭😭😭😭 I didn't get to meet y'all. But I am glad y'all loved our little park . My ? Is did y'all take time to walk around and go to the cave or enjoyed the park.

Yes! They had some monsters up there. That place is very unique and we want to make visiting there a tradition! Thanks for watching!
What zone were you in? Can you still fish there a week or two after opener ?
Been going my whole life if you use the right test line and jig you can catch as many fish as you want.
Dang y'all where only 30 minutes from me 😭😭😭😭 I didn't get to meet y'all. But I am glad y'all loved our little park . My ? Is did y'all take time to walk around and go to the cave or enjoyed the park.
We walked around the hatchery but didn’t get a chance to check out the rest of the park unfortunately
