Lauryn Hill is why longevity in Hip Hop doesn't always mean greatness. Lauryn Hill, with only One album, a handful of song where she spits rhymes, and some old freestyles, is without question in the top 2 greatest female rappers of ALL-TIME next to MC Lyte . The next group down is not even not even close to Lauryn Hill lyrically, even the ones who had males write for them. And, at the time, a case could have easily been made that she was in the top 10 of all MCs in the mid 90's. Which is pretty impressive considering that era's lyrical prowess. The 2 duets with her and NAS was magic and the anticipation for more collaborations was strong but never happened for various reasons. Unfortunately, though, she didn't rap enough but her voice, flow, and content, put her name in the conversation of best lyricist everytime. A shooting star or a comet in the night, lyrically Lauryn Hill was one of G.O.A.T. or at least should be.

Well, it's all ultimately written, then, you refine and use it. It's called study and practice. Also, when you practice anything enough, eventually it will become "freestyle". Bebop (in jazz) was the ultimate musical freestyle, and the old "black" Blues before that. Still, they had to create, learn, practice, refine..., then..., recreate in real time that "freestyle" rhyme. That's how it works, kid.
