I remember this game as being insanely difficult
I always gave up on the nightstages, there was no reason they had to be that dark.
This game includes Indonesian Rally Circuit. Very Nostalgic Stuff.
The draw distance in this game is amazing, hardly noticeable.

Still sometimes it is quite strange (as it was with almost all games of that era) when you first see things in the background/skybox (like the sea on the first track), when you really should not be able to see it since it gets obscured be pop-in polygons seconds later. : D
If we don't know why, EA and Infogrames developed published this game, because this is NFS (NTSC) and Test Drive (PAL)
I've never seen it with the Test Drive name in PAL regions. I had this back in the day and it was just called V-Rally.

This game had some seriously wonky handling
sadly too many games of the ps1 era do, particularly the ones made before the Dual Shock became the standard
Think the second game they improved alot of stuff with it and it was a smoother game. It's been years so I could be wrong but I remember part 2 just being really good back then.
Need for speed? They definitely changed it in the UK as it was just known as V-Rally here
The Europe PS1 version is called V-Rally: 97 Championship Edition and both Japan and Europe Platinum PS1 versions as V-Rally: Championship Edition.
Need For Speed V-Rally looks pretty great

except this game wasn't made by EA they only published and put the NFS name because of marketing

I always liked the music in this game, but wonder why it's of such low quality. It was that way even on the original game-disc and played on original hardware.
It looks so easy if you are controlling the cars.
Back then i was able to destroy others, but now i cant make 1 turn without overturning the car as they feel like they are made out of paper :)
I discovered the trick with the handling is to hold the direction you are turning the whole way through each turn. Letting go makes you spin out

The French made some pretty amazing arcade racers, this and Moto Racer come to mind.

Was waiting for your video on this game to know if it's worth playing it on emulator:track is very well made, draw distance too, but I hate the chase camera movements and the driving physics is awful compared to other NFS titles.
The textures in this one are a bit iffy.
Funny it has the "Need For Speed" title in US
Good game not a fan of having music while driving find it rather off putting that's my only fault.
Why called NFS?
because EA published for the US and because is *EA* they decided to put the name of NFS
this game is decent but i can agree that the handling in this game is not good
the sequel is far far better

It wasn't a bad game, the problem is that the jerks of EA and Infogrames associated themselves to use the Need for Speed name in this very Eurocentric rally simulation which obviously has zero fucks of similar to the arcadey and light hearted gameplay of NFS, and at the same game they ruined the oeiginal game, which in Europe was just called V-Rally, was simulation oriented and obviously didn't had music in the stages, which is incredibly annoying in this game because sucks

@@miguelelgueta5830 The controls, tracks and replay value werent as good as NFS3 and 4. It was very poor imo.
The N64 version was far better.

@@funkymunky Nope, V-Rally 99' on N64 and Dreamcast was a port of V-Rally 2 for PlayStation, the Psx had worse resolution than the n64 version but the Psx edition had much better textures as always.
Overall it much much better than this game obviously, but was far from the best Rally game of those years, Colin McRae Rally 2.0

This game has some of the worst handling of any racing game I've ever played, even for the time it was released. Why would anyone play this when GT2 exists??
eh i can agree is not good but it wasn't the worst you want a PS1 game with the worst handling? try Roadsters
