It was a really politically stupid thing to do. I have had to put down dogs and the way she went about it in the story she voluntarily told was pretty ghastly and shows a complete lack of insight into how people would view her behavior.
Not only did she say she “hated” a puppy but she also shot the dog without any consideration as to how it would affect her children. She didn’t let them say “goodbye” or anything. She did it without telling them first. Gross.
The story shows how callous, thoughtless and emotionally impulsive she is, as well as how completely idiotic she is that she thought the story would show that she was “tough” instead of moronic.
I’ve had to put down many, many animals in my life and it is always a sad situation.
Furthermore, instead of hating the dog she should have been angry at herself for failing the dog. It was her responsibility to ensure the dog did not get loose and destroy other people’s animals and property.
      The whole story was idiotic
Also, she put down a billy goat in the story because he was acting exactly the way a goat with his testicles acts. Why didn’t she know that the goat would act that way (and smell bad) if she didn’t have him wethered?
That’s like buying a bull and then being shocked that he was aggressive and then “hating” the bull when you put him down. That’s moronic. She’s irresponsible. She should have known.
I’ve made many rookie mistakes in my life but good Lord the woman advertised them like they were strengths while showing that she didn’t learn a damn thing from her mistakes. It was a totally stupid memoir. I don’t know what she was thinking but she should retire

I've read articles on livestock guardian dogs which are acquired to protect farm livestock. There is a statistic saying that approximately 30% of livestock guardian dogs are euthanized due to violent and aggressive behaviour. My understanding is that Noem's dog on multiple occasions killed livestock. And then they attempted to train the dog with other doggos, and that didn't work resulting in other livestock deaths. This included putting an electronic collar on the dog which escaped and killed chickens in a neighbor's farm. And then on a later occasion the dog was violent towards Noem herself. Noem who has children didn't feel the dog was safe to have at their home nor safe to give away so euthanized the dog as 30% of these types of dogs are put down when they get violent. My understanding is that if a dog bites another person that most municipalities order that a dog be put down too. So I'm trying to understand the scandal here? Is it because she told the truth?

has psychotic malicious tendencies as humans do. That's biologically impossible. It was an aggressive
dog, no arguing that, but she could have given it away to a facility here in SD that can train and rehome dogs.

Giving Noem the only option to put a bullet in her own dog.
