Yeaa the M5 definitely showed why it’s more superior here, although the 540 was close you have to spend more just to get close to what a tuned M5 can do imagine if the M5 had 10k in it or even 5k
Great Sportsmanship, all respect. M5 S63 Exhaust is just beast, 540i Exhaust from that venerable B58 hits the spot too lol. Between the two I would choose M5 however I enjoy that B58 as well.
Nice comparison. I think it would be a nice comparison to bring in the m550i. As a previous 17:51 owner of a B58 540i and a current owner of the N63tu2 m550i, the way they feel when moving fast (over 100mph) is so different. I haven't had the opportunity to drive an m5, but I would pick the m550i over the 540i, concerning performance. If I'm after reliability, there's nothing like the B58. Both cars are phenomenal. It's the once choice that's a win win, regardless
540i sounded better 😮. Modern m5s are muted racing cat's would help give the m5 a growl but standard just sucks the joy out of them. Gr8 battle all the same.
Love me the b58, it's almost bulletproof but as an f90 owner; that s63 is limitless on power gains more when compared to no M engines + luxury, looks and swag. You got the wallet 99 percent you'll be pimping f90 s63.
M cars are just better built than non m cars its the underneath not the power. It's about refinement. But ya know with people rating teslas refinement has gone out the window
It's one sided more than I thought it would be 😂 . Was thinking it would be back and forth victories . But isn't the M5 got a little more better set up on the gearbox from the M factory . Basically the same by name but set just a little more special .? But I do like the 540I sound . Sounds pretty damn good .
I don't think that this video is about what car is going to win this video is about that you can build a car there is cheaper but still gets almost the same performance
They both sounded beautiful without limitations on their revvings and no popping i loved it. Also not that it matters but did anyone see the fur the 540 driver had on them arms, he had more hair than my head damn, of course he's going to be hot in that car lol
The B58 had to pass Toyota’s stringent quality control. No wonder BMW desperately wanted a partnership with Toyota. Not only did BMW get Toyota’s knowledge on how to build a great inline-6, they also get to use Toyota’s hydrogen technology. And Toyota in return got a new sports car.
I guess it all comes down to engine size and torque figures with the m5 having more displacement and torque, that being said was the 540i suffering from heat soak after all those runs? Great racing though and comparison
40i as a stage 3 is at it's limit m5 at stage 1 is only just waking up. If the next step for 40i is forged engine the m5 is better value for money because it will take 900+hp before needing to be opened up.
@@NVMotorsportUK the 540 is already passed it limits and needs meth injection for its survival. The M5 with it's cat back and tune are well within it's safe limits. Remove the meth from the 540 and push 700 hp and it would of already blown up think it's just over 600 on pump . In their current state of tune the M5 will live longer than the 540 and without the meth the 540 couldn't compete.
Theres no point saying if the m5 was stock. Because this race was same power and m5 has a heavier engine and it just proved its better. Plus the 540i being stage 3 will guarantee have major problems down the line where as the m5 is only stage 1 so itl stay more reliable
I bought the M5 Comp for obvious reasons. If I were tighter on budget, I wouldn't mind a tuned 540i but the M5C stage 2 is a different league. The power is just going to be more linear, hence the huge difference in the drag race seen here, and that was just a stage 1 M5. You get the M5 if you can afford it.
More people need to learn how to drive well and appreciate M cars on the tracks with turns. Then the overall car, w/ an LSD, will be better appreciated

The B58 easily can perform with 700bhp run after run, but it needs an aftermarket intake manifold (by Wagner for example). Then the IATs stay down low until the last run.
For a 8.5K difference, I would take the M5 any day of the week.
outstanding jamie nothing better than a bmw race down the strip epic mate 💯💯💯😛😛
That 540i did amazingly well to stay so close with that M5 !
If I had that 540 I would 100000% slap a 520i and make it a sleeper look
Beautiful cars though
Ew no
The 1/4 AWD leaderboard is all Quattro and Porsche PTM. That says a lot
Bro the amount of hair on Mo's arms must affect the weight 😂 differentl levs
Nice comparison. I think it would be a nice comparison to bring in the m550i. As a previous 17:51 owner of a B58 540i and a current owner of the N63tu2 m550i, the way they feel when moving fast (over 100mph) is so different. I haven't had the opportunity to drive an m5, but I would pick the m550i over the 540i, concerning performance.
If I'm after reliability, there's nothing like the B58. Both cars are phenomenal. It's the once choice that's a win win, regardless
The 540i has a better power to weight ratio & more power, but still lost so fair play to the M5.
The gearing on the cars seemed very different which may have played a part
At the end of the day a 540i is not a M car for a reason. The Letter M is a heavy one… ❤️❤️ especially with the M5
OG battles, its what Sundays are made for
this is what sundays are about! 2 german beasts smashing gears and smoking tyres. this one’s gunna be close 👊🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Man in the M5 SWEATING in that first roll man you can feel the relief in that sigh 😂
I would go with the 540i just because I’m guessing it would be cheaper maintaining.
M cars are just better built than non m cars its the underneath not the power. It's about refinement. But ya know with people rating teslas refinement has gone out the window
100%
540i put up a convincing fight
this is the design we like mann, BMW TAKE NOTES
i would love to see the 1000hp e63s wagon against the 1000hp rs6.I would appreciate it if you could make it happen👍
Would love to give that a go but unfortunately my RS6 is only stage 1 off the shelf map doing 650hp and 830nm torque.
Maybe one day 😂
The M5 already produces close to 685 bhp at stock, there is a video at carwow where they dyno all three german competitors
Two less cylinders and still does a good job keeping up that’s pretty impressive. Those M cars are no joke though.
It's one sided more than I thought it would be 😂 . Was thinking it would be back and forth victories . But isn't the M5 got a little more better set up on the gearbox from the M factory . Basically the same by name but set just a little more special .? But I do like the 540I sound . Sounds pretty damn good .
The guy with the 540i needs to do something and get his revenge !!
I don't think that this video is about what car is going to win this video is about that you can build a car there is cheaper but still gets almost the same performance
If ‘Moe’ is reading this, that’s the best sounding B58 I’ve heard. *standing ovation*
They both sounded beautiful without limitations on their revvings and no popping i loved it. Also not that it matters but did anyone see the fur the 540 driver had on them arms, he had more hair than my head damn, of course he's going to be hot in that car lol
Two absolute machine. What a launch the m5 got second drag race 😂😊
The extra torque of that M5 is crazy
The B58 had to pass Toyota’s stringent quality control. No wonder BMW desperately wanted a partnership with Toyota. Not only did BMW get Toyota’s knowledge on how to build a great inline-6, they also get to use Toyota’s hydrogen technology. And Toyota in return got a new sports car.
this is incorrect
B58 is german art of engineering and nothing to do with Toyota. Toyota just uses the B58 engine from Germany it has nothing to do with Japan.
Really interesting comparison, thanks Jamie I enjoyed that video!
I think it would of been abit closer if the 540i was ps4s's. The 540i was surprisingly reliable.
Good races.
I guess it all comes down to engine size and torque figures with the m5 having more displacement and torque, that being said was the 540i suffering from heat soak after all those runs? Great racing though and comparison
M5 boy in the M5 smacking the limiter everytime he uses the paddles ... well at least in the first race. He learned after that.
Jesus! Absolutely incredible arm hair on that creature.
thanks for the video ! what a great perf of 540, amazing ,respect for owner ! m5 is m5 ofc!
40i as a stage 3 is at it's limit m5 at stage 1 is only just waking up. If the next step for 40i is forged engine the m5 is better value for money because it will take 900+hp before needing to be opened up.
This is true.. but the stock rods on the M5 are its weak point
Stage 3 b58 or stage 1 m5 - says it all. However, I like b58's more
15:27 uff, I thought it was the end of my graphics card
Krass das ihr mein und eventuell auch von anderen die Kommentare an herz genommen habt und diesen Vergleich gemacht habt geil !!! 🤙🤙🤙
Need Hass, Evolve and Tom Ridley, epic showdown of tuners!
*Wrigley 😉
has to be m power kidd for me the e39 m5 set the status for the m power bad boy machines a m5 is a m5 son 🔥💯💪🏻
Think the facelift m550i with a stage 2 would be more interesting
Looks like a different gear ratio for each car.
Need some more BMWs on them leaderboards
Be good to see a tuned m550i Vs m5
More people need to learn how to drive well and appreciate M cars on the tracks with turns. Then the overall car, w/ an LSD, will be better appreciated
Especially with being lighter, either that 540 doesn't have 700hp or that m5 has more than 700hp lol
