Hahaha. Nice to see people still watching my old vids. I used japan koi imports. They are based near Peterborough if ur local, if not they have an ebay shop. If you put some small holes in the end of the waste pipe it will be a little like a spray bar instead of dumping all in one spot and possibly waterlogging the grass?..
When keeping koi if everything went as planned without problems what fun would that be? 🤣 Skeggy's idea is a good one but you could also put in a longer screen/pipe with larger holes to allow more water to pass and minimize the suction on the K1 caused by the pump. That's what I do and it works well. 👍🏻
The end bay where you got the k1 can't you use a sheet of egg crate and make a separate section for the outlet the water can still flow and the k1 won't gather around the outlet
Looking good bud but I think you may need to ditch the basket because even if you got a smaller pump, if a few leaves got into the basket it would restrict the flow even more and if your not there the pump could end up running dry so out of the 2 I'd get rid of the basket 👍
If your going to get another pump stick it directly on the skimmer you can get the pull you want then and balance the return with the vari pump on the out let,i to would drop outlet below the crate

Drop your outlet pickup below the egg crate at the bottom
Drill sone bigger holes in the basket so ut catches the big stuff the filter will pick up the rest 10mm holes

I had the same problem so put moving bed in next bay ☝👍

Ad just take the basket out bud you don't need it you've got a vortex multibay running off it so ad just take the basket out if it was me 👍🐟
Loving it mate trial and error is always fun, learning curve as Skeggy said out let at bottom maybe better way to go
