Ok I will try to give the full context: • Johnny : The most admired singer in France from early 60s to 2017 when he died. He is the Elvis of France, sold more than 110M records WW. His concerts were huge! To give you an idea on how big he was in the french music history, just 3 anecdotes: 1. As a teenager, he was mentored by Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour themselves ! 2. He was the first one who gave his chance to a young guitarist and his band, as a supporting act to his concerts during his 1966 tour. Name of the band: the Jimi Hendrix Experience! 3. When he died in 2017, there were national funerals, with hundred of bikers on the Champs-Elysees, 1 million people long the path of the funeral procession. And this song was played when the coffin penetrated in the church. Johnny was a real vocal powerhouse, but for this concert , in this last night, best perf, the mics were balanced in favor of Lara: he wanted her to shine and found this gave more drama to the duet. • The song: this is an anthem song for him, that he used to sing alone. This was turned into a duet for Lara. The story of the song was created in reference to a very famous old french classic movie: Le Jour se Leve (1939) where the main character is barricaded and surrounded by the police, having killed a bad man who was his rival in love affairs. Here it becomes more a « Bonnie and Clyde » scene where the main character and her girlfriend are defying the police. • The venue/event: Johnny’s concerts in Stade de France ( biggest stadium in Paris and France) in front of min 80,000. Lara was one of the surprise special guest. They were supposed to perform it 3 times in a row on September 1998 (4th, 5th and 6th). The first night on the 4th, it was deluge of rain, the scene was outdoor, it was risky and they decided at the last minute, with the crowd in the stadium, to postpone it to Sep 11th . Johnny was devastated. The second night and the third night the weather was fine enough. There were 200+ musicians and 150+ chorists on stage. The orchestra and choir setup was amazing, the choir especially which was distributed on huge stairs climbing to the sky. But the night of 11th, the rain was here again. Johnny absolutely refused to cancel this time. This is this Sep 11th show that you just watched and the rein just added some dramatic effect to the whole performance. The orchestra was located under a tent. The choir was grouped on the floor and on some balconies (not on stairs anymore obviously) • Lara: she was at the beginning of her career in France and this performance became legendary and accelerated her fame there. She was just starting to be known in France when, in February 1998, she performed this song in duet with Johnny for Les Enfoires, the most attended France TV Show of each year. Johnny was so surprised and amazed by Lara performance that he decided to do this song again as a duet with her for the 3 big concerts a few months later. In between February and September, the album Pure from Lara had become an absolute mega hit in France, and Lara was already a star. But this live performance where she performs as a surprise guest definitely extended her fame and she got new fans across the entire country. This duet has become legendary and iconic in France, there is still at least one TV show every month coming back on this duet and exposing the behind-the-scenes moments.
WOW. Thank you so much for this detailed but succinct background info! I spend hours googling info on new-to-me performances, but you've nailed it all here.
@@elliehart-2point0 just to add that these were, I believe, the first concert in this stadium, which was built for the soccer world cup that occurred just 2 months before. And this is where the athletics competitions happened in the Olympics games

The classic arrangement was made by a young genius named Yvan Cassard. He is a very famous classic pianist, initially performing with the greek legend Vangelis. Johnny noticed his talent and asked him to be his musical director for this series of big concerts. He was only 31 years old when these concerts were held and he became a legend himself. He then directed the biggest concerts in France: those from Johnny or those from Mylene Farmer ( with the most astonishing concerts intro and outro ever performed).
Johnny Hallyday was born on Tuesday, June 15, 1943, in Paris and passed away on the night of December 5 to 6, 2017, in Paris. He is the son of a Belgian father and a French mother. In 57 years of his career, he recorded around 1300 songs. 180 tracks have been made into a music video or a scopitone. 758 authors and composers collaborated with Johnny. Johnny composed 105 songs himself and also composed about ten tracks for other artists. He has also written and co-written a few songs. Johnny also has 545 duets with 188 different artists on 214 tracks. His first 45 RPM record was released on March 14, 1960, but it was on December 30, 1959, that it could be heard for the first time on the radio in the show "Paris cocktail." On April 18, 1960, under the "sponsorship" of Line Renaud, he made his first television appearance in "L'école des vedettes." 57 years later, 93 certifications including 41 gold records, 4 double gold records, 23 platinum records, 8 double platinum records, 5 triple platinum records, and 12 diamond records (including one double diamond and one triple diamond) testify to an exceptional career, crowned by 10 Victoires or special Victoires or music honor Victoires. 2 NRJ Music Awards. Johnny is the most acclaimed French artist and the one who has sold the most records in France. The number of units sold is estimated at 200 million, including more than 110 million records sold. Imagine if he had had an international career... With 805,000 sales in one week of Mon pays c'est l'amour (51st album) (Posthumous album), Johnny was ranked No. 1 worldwide in 2018. A stage beast recognized by all, Johnny performed more than 184 tours and attracted nearly 30 million spectators throughout his career. Johnny will have given more than 3502 concerts. Johnny is the only French artist whose almost entire body of work has been recorded both audio-visually. Johnny is also an actor with, to his credit, no fewer than 43 films (including appearances) spread throughout his career. About twenty fan clubs (approximately 10,000 members in total) He was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1997, he has also been an Officer of the Order of the Crown since 2001, but above all, he has been a Knight of Arts and Letters since 1995. He sang in several different languages.(English, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Japanese, and German) He brought together the rich, the less rich, and the poor. He brought together several generations. Listening to his songs, you will realize that this very great singer was capable of singing anything. There is something for everyone's taste, rock'n'roll, rockabilly, blues, country, French variety, a rock opera album (Hamlet), etc. A unique voice.. Her voice has only evolved over the years, becoming more and more powerful and precise. Johnny can be compared to the greatest singers in the world!! He gave numerous exceptional concerts, with crazy entrances like at the Parc des Princes in 1993, entering through the back of the stadium and walking through the crowd for three consecutive nights (no one had done that before him). and he did it again in 2013 at Bercy, in 1998 he arrived by helicopter above the Stade de France, in 1984 at the Zenith he came out of a giant hand (a wall had to be broken to get the hand above the stage), in 2012 at the Stade de France he arrived in a giant flying ball resembling a mine, which landed on stage, and so on. Here are some songs: "Quelques cris, L'envie, Allumer le feu, Ce qui tue pas nous rend plus fort, Tu es elle, Que je t'aime, Je te promets, Quelque chose de Tennessee, Vivre pour le meilleur, Pense à moi, Marie, Laisse moi tomber, S'il nest pas trop tard, Ma religion dans son regard, Le temps passe, Si tu pars, Mon plus beau Noël, Te savoir près de moi, Sang pour sang, Aimer vivre, Ça ne change pas un homme, True to you, Tien an men, Cadillac, Je ne suis pas un héros 'Bercy 1990', Requiem pour un fou 'Parc des Princes 1993', Derrière l'amour, Gabrielle, Ce que je sais, Moulin à vent, C'est du vent, Voyage au pays des vivants, À tout casser, Fumée, Comme si je devais mourir demain, J'ai oublié de vivre, Elle m'oublie, La musique que j'aime, Ma gueule, L'instinct, Diego 'Bercy 92', Animal, Un jour viendra, I am the blues, Ça ne finira jamais, De l'amour, La douceur de vivre, La paix, Debout, Pardonne-moi, Vent de panique, La loi du silence, Seul au beau milieu d'un lac, Sable mouvant, Ne m'oublie pas, Mon pays c'est l'amour, Made in rock'n'roll, Qui ose aimer, Autoportrait, Rock'n'roll attitude, Rester libre, J'ai pleuré sur ma guitare, L'amour peut prendre froid(duet with Céline Dion), Ne reviens pas, Rock'n'roll star (movie)duet with Fabrice Luchini(actor), J'la croise tous les matins, Quand le masque tombe, Et puis je sais, Pirate de l'air, Un rêve à faire, M'arrêter là, Essayez, Le coeur en deux, Entre chiens et loups, Un monde à part, A propos de mon père, Regarde moi t'aimer, Jamais(duet with Florent Pagny), Je serai là, Mirador, Les vautours, J'oublierai ton nom, Le chanteur abandonné, Toi tais-toi, Ne tuez pas la liberté, Montpellier, Il nous faudra parler d'amour un jour, J'ai épousé une ombre, Je n'oublierai jamais, Je suis nu je suis mort, Il me faudra plus de temps que m'en donnera la vie, Le bol d'or, Noël interdit, De la race humaine, Le pénitencier, La terre promise, La fille aux cheveux clairs, La fille de l'hiver, Sage pour vous, La tournée, J'aimerais pouvoir encore souffrir comme ça, La guitare fait mal, Parties de cartes, Pardon, Un cri, L'amour à mort, Prière pour un ami, Rouler vers l'ouest, etcccc And many others.... 💯💣🗯💫🦾💪💥
I put my headphones on for this one. It is indeed epic and it seems even more dramatic in French. Great performance. Thank you for my first introduction to this masterpiece 😊❤
The minute the choir came in that was it for me. Mozart’s Requiem in D Minor, K 626 is one of my favorites of his even though it wasn’t finished. A student of his Franz Xaver Süssmayr actually finished it- All I can say about this piece is that it’s dynamic, epic in scale and powerfully done . Whew what a ride! ❤️R/A🎼💯
Think you'd really love Lara's cover of Barbra Streisand's Yentl Medley. Done in her younger days (1997) live at the Molson Center in Montreal with her Mother and Father in attendance. She gave it everything she had and it was spectacular.
To understand how great a reactor is you need a great performance - and that's what we have here! Thank you Sir and I hope you'll come back soon with some more Lara ❤
Great video again. It's like Salvador Dali explains a painting..but this explains music..In a way that even i can understand moore. Thank you and cheers from a finn in Sweden. 👍😃
The first time I listened to this performance I understood why someone called it the greatest French-language duet. I was blown back into my chair. Lara's acting skills are in high gear as is her voice and I love the grit and growl of Johnny's. Powerful, dramatic, incredible. Lara's acting skills are evident also throughout her En Toute Intimite concert, my personal favourite. One song, Comme Ils Disent, is outstanding in a concert full of amazing performances. I hope you will take that song on one day. Thank you. I loved this.
I'm French, I just watched several reaction videos on this epic duet in which even the rain participated in the dramatic effect, and it was you who had the most finesse and sensitivity. Our world is so lacking in empathy that it makes me happy out of compersion to see a person like you.
Ça c'est fantastique Sir Hairless!!🤩💙🩵 I did vote for this Lara song because I know Johnny well from my childhood...but I didn't realise just how good it was! Starting with the title - Requiem Pour Un Fou!!! 🗯🤯And your appreciation is of course contagious! 💫 What a reaction and analysis! Stunning revelation! Bravo!! ✨️🏆🏆🏆
And Johnny was unable to hear from his left ear forever more 😂 It's one of my all time favorites and I'm so happy to see you love it too! Thank you for taking the time to share this with us, it's a FORCE.
Thank you to everyone who voted for this reaction! This performance emotionally destroys me every time. It's epically gut wrenching. Great analysis, you made me focus on the other things going on, which is almost impossible for me to do when Lara is performing.
That’s what I call a commitment! Everybody, every instruments are all in. My first listening and I won’t forget. Great request. Thank you for another great R/A. 🤗
Дорогой Sir Hairless! Невероятно круто! Огромное спасибо за выбор песни, великолепный дуэт! Потрясающее впечатление от выступления, насыщенно, эмоционально, страстно! А этот дождь!? @57Gauloises57 We are now in a new era where ALL of the actual music has become much less than so-so. Where has inspiration gone to? When will inspiration come back.....if ever?
Vraiment bluffant, Sir!! That’s an exquisite combination of epic and dramatic talents accompanied by a delightful musical artillery of musicians. I loved the orchestra + choir arrangement and also your deeply expressive reaction & analysis - lots of goosebumps here too! :)
Hi Sir Hairless, from South France, 🌴🌞 What passion in your reaction, it's just “magnifique !” I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for choosing my translation, which respects the number of feet in each verse. Peace, folks. ☮👈😎
@@SirHairless You're welcome, Yes, I stopped studying in 8th Grade (3 years of academic English, therefore - 2 hours per week). 😊 But I've progressed a lot thanks to the internet and the conversations we're sharing right now.

This performance is gripping and moving, start to finish. Yes, Sir, the words epic and powerful are perfect! As always, in addition to your gift for absorbing all the details - literally everything - happening on the stage - at once and sharing your (never boring) analysis, it's focusing your face as you watch and listen and process that engages me every time. Your expressive visage, it's so spontaneous, authentic and unselfconscious. Yours is my #1 favorite RUclips channel because you are you. 🏆
I've been watching a lot of Lara Fabian reactions lately, so I guess that's why you were suggested. Very happy that youtube got it right this time. Great reaction/analysis to a great performance. I knew I was subscribing to your channel when I saw the tears forming.
@@SirHairless , I don't know how far back you go with checking comments, but when I saw the next one with you comparing Lara to the original French singer of a song, I suggested one to Pentatonix. Then I searched your catalogue and saw that you had a TON of Pentatonix reactions/analyses to them, including Come Along. So now, I wonder why you don't have any Ren reactions.
Lara is definitely one of my favourite female singers of all time. I am so happy to have had a chance to attend her live performance in my native city of Rostov, which is in the south of Russia, more than 10 years ago. I also had the fantastic opportunity to give her a small bouquet after the concert, and she was so unbelievably sweet with her fans. Igor Krutoy was so damn right when he said, at the very beginning of their collaboration, that Lara is the world's best singer when it comes to singing about love.

Absolutely epic performance. There are not many singers who covered this song, but there is an english version if I recall it right, sung by Michael Bolton and a french/english duet Michael Bolton and Johnny Hallyday - in english it´s called fool for love - not quite the same meaning as the french title 😉
🇨🇦 There is another one, another EPIC song, that you must react to ! And at the same time, you will get to see a small portion of her work ethic ! "I am A-WA" is a Masterpiece, trust me ! 🇨🇦
After hearing you talk about Mozart's requiem, that reminded me that you may be interested in reacting to EVANESCENCE - Lacrymosa Synthesis Live, as it is a modern re-imagining of the Lacrymosa from Mozart's requiem and has fantastic vocals from Amy Lee.
Lara's microphone sound was at maximum (it resonated..) and Johnny's was lower.. It was Johnny who asked for it to be done like that. Lara was his guest at the Stade de France and he wanted her to demonstrate her vocal power and shine. Lara herself confirmed it. Johnny in all his generosity... Know that Johnny was a vocal power too but on this last interpretation he did not want because it was done on purpose, Johnny was very intelligent in doing that to make the song more dramatic and show their acting on this magnificent song that belongs to him. The desired goal was the dramatic side of the singing all in power but less than Lara (Johnny) with at the same time next to him a more striking singing power (Lara) and the passionate play between the two. Everything was imagined by Johnny himself to end the last interpretation in style. A masterpiece, perhaps the most beautiful duet in the world..🎉💥
La version en solo de Johnny de cette chanson au "parc des princes en 1993" est très bonne aussi. Si vous aimez ce style de mélodie, Johnny avait enregistré un album d'opéra rock en 1976 "Hamlet".
Without a doubt an incredible performance for both. This performance along with "Tango" (sultry) and the video "Llora" (powerfully emotional) show three very different facets to the artist that is Lara Fabian.
I love that you noted the chromaticism at the opening of the song, and so I love the sequence as you demonstrated...focusing on key points and a lot more. Yeah. There are lot to take in about this song, such a great piece of art this composition. Both Orchestra and Choir/Choristers were absolutely on point and the Music Director...It's really hard work with a huge ensemble and Choir. What a performance. What a performance, too, with two of the greatest artists of our world. The stage was Johnny's home but so is it for our dearest Lara. To the person referring to Johnny's 57 year career and Eric Sicard...thank you so much for the information (down in the Comment section) that you share with us. Yes, Johnny is a French legend. As such, he picked up Lara along the way. The reason? This performance proves what some of us don't want to admit! What an amazing vocalist and performer. She made that "chemistry" so real...! The experienced Johnny was completely controlled during it all. I just can't help but wonder what Johnny must have felt or even the conversation between them that must have followed after this performance. In this sense she was truly magical. Truly great artists. Thank you for your reaction. I appreciate your comments and analytical remarks, which adds real value to your reaction. I love it.
Johnny said that Lara is "him as a woman, she gives her everything on stage". He wanted to collaborate more with Lara but Laetitia got a bit jealous of their chemistry and apparently refused that Johnny performed with Lara again. They did but only twice when they could have been much more present together, sharing the same french producer at that time.
Hi, Just found your channel and I love the technical details you give! If you want more of Lana, she recently performed a concert with Hauser, they performed Caruso and Adagio, would love to watch your reaction! Have a great day 😊
@SirHairless Only you could provide this level of detail of this EPIC. It's so undervalued to call this a "REACTION VIDEO". This was a complete musical analysis far beyond the standard. I won't even bother commenting on The Ring, The GOAT other than the only thing you didn't mention [which comes up everywhere], WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? Did we just unearth some time capsule from a quarter century ago and found Lara Fabian? What secret stealth forcefield hid Lara from America? Show her photo in Europe anywhere on the street to any age and its "yea that's Lara Fabian", "yes, that's THE RING", "Lara the Legend".....what!? How is this possible without some suspicious, incredulous, jealous, nefarious failure to promote, produce, endorse, advertise, boost? Were we completed isolated, insulated, hidden and sequestered in "The Trinity" jury? I smell a RAT. This feels somewhat like Barbara Streisand career but she is at least well known and the only singer I compare with Lara. She is who I immediately thought of the first time I heard Lara sing, "....and man can this woman sing" - David Foster. Lara makes emotion contagious, soak me up with a towel, I have no defense for her. I'm hopelessly infected. Never felt this with "The Trinity", not even close and I've been to those concerts. I wish just once that Laura herself could hear me say how absolutely out of this world complete she is as an artist, how she makes everyone feel when we watch her performances that completely feels like an out of body experience. MESMERIZING. Reactors have to replay because they get lost and sucked into her world. It's like watching the best singer on the planet blended with the best thespian on the planet just merging those two worlds together the way she does, you very rarely [ok, NEVER] can find anyone who can do these things on her level, she is a unicorn, she is an absolute fantasy, a creature of mythic attributes. Wow! Just Wow!
WHY? You’re so right about everything you said! And what “they” did to Lara was a literal crime IMO, but, know what? Good for her! Maybe I’m being selfish here, but I’m happy that Lara didn’t sell her soul and artistic integrity to those sharks back in the day. Just look what happened to their proclaimed “vocal trinity”. Whitney was literally vocally and personally destroyed by the industry. Céline spent her last healthy years ruining her voice in Vegas. And, Mariah, the poor woman, was swallowed by her own ego… Lara is happy and healthy, singing only what she loves alongside great orchestras. Her voice very much preserved. 🙌🏻 She’s living her best life and she deserves it. 👸🏼
I wish you have picked the video with the lyrics I'm English. It's so powerful tho. Lara is crying her heart out because the lyrics demands this. Also her full chest going from low to belting high notes effortless is AMAZING. ❤

He wants to commit suicide by provoking a police officer into killing him. At this particular concert, Johnny made sure the microphones were balanced in Lara's favor: he wanted her to shine and found that this added even more drama to the duet. * Johnny Halliday, *1943, singer, songwriter and actor. Johnny received a full state funeral. Paris stood still, they closed the Champs-Elyse for his funeral procession and about a million people lined up to bid him farewell. He had a 57-year career from 1960 to 2017, sold over 100 million albums, recorded over 1000 songs and wrote or co-wrote hundreds of songs. Not only was he a great musician, but he was also a very humble man out of the limelight. Johnny Halliday is a legend in France like Elvis in America.
The set of short videos in one ….. Lara as “Madamoiselle Zhivago “. Will curl your beard. I think it is four separate little video films acted and sung by Lara and it is confronting to say the least, but she sure is an amazing actress and has a magical voice. I watched it some time ago and was hypnotised by her performance. Must watch it again now after seeing this one for about the twentieth time. You will love it I’m sure and can’t wait to see your reaction.!!

Gosh what an epic piece. Just the orchestra and chorale in the first minute.
Here are some songs:

My favorite song!!! My favorite singers!!!😍
Extraordinary duo serving a magnificent stage performance. Breathtaking!
I put my headphones on for this one. It is indeed epic and it seems even more dramatic in French. Great performance. Thank you for my first introduction to this masterpiece 😊❤
oh oui et cet arrangement est fabuleux merci de ...... décortiquer cette interprétation inoubliable ❤❤❤❤❤
The minute the choir came in that was it for me.
Mozart’s Requiem in D Minor, K 626 is one of my favorites of his even though it wasn’t finished. A student of his Franz Xaver Süssmayr actually finished it-
All I can say about this piece is that it’s dynamic, epic in scale and powerfully done .
Whew what a ride!

Think you'd really love Lara's cover of Barbra Streisand's Yentl Medley. Done in her younger days (1997) live at the Molson Center in Montreal with her Mother and Father in attendance. She gave it everything she had and it was spectacular.
YES PLEASE GO FOR IT

To understand how great a reactor is you need a great performance - and that's what we have here! Thank you Sir and I hope you'll come back soon with some more Lara ❤
Johnny rearranged this song as a duet only to sing it with Lara. He said Lara is female version of him. Great analysis
I've been waiting relatively patiently to see your reaction to this perforrmance. They were smashing and your reaction was also! Blessings
Thank you . I love this performance . Such genuine and passionate performances are lacking nowadays. With love from Bulgaria ❤❤❤

I love when you explain WHY I like a song
Great video again. It's like Salvador Dali explains a painting..but this explains music..In a way that even i can understand moore. Thank you and cheers from a finn in Sweden. 👍😃
That was the greatest analysis of this performance I ever saw….thx
Thank you so much
So happy to see you reacting to Queen Lara again! 🙌🏻
🎉❤ love that concert too ❤ especially sio the Aznavour song ❤

Bravo!! ✨️🏆🏆🏆
Just WOW!!! Fabulous performance! Thanks, Sir, for your amazing analysis!

Thank you to everyone who voted for this reaction! This performance emotionally destroys me every time. It's epically gut wrenching. Great analysis, you made me focus on the other things going on, which is almost impossible for me to do when Lara is performing.

If Lara came that close to me, I wouldn't be able to speak a meaningful sentence, let alone sing.
Hasta la lluvia … Dos grandes irrepetibles, una actuación atemporal y épica. Muchas Gracias por tu análisis 🎻🇪🇸
I've been watching a lot of Lara Fabian reactions lately, so I guess that's why you were suggested. Very happy that youtube got it right this time. Great reaction/analysis to a great performance. I knew I was subscribing to your channel when I saw the tears forming.
Haha great performers make the tears flow 😅 As you'll see in my other Lara reactions 😉
@@SirHairless p.s. if you do choose to try Ren, in your case, I would recommend starting with Money Game Part 3, then going back to the beginning.

This is so powerfull and enjoyable to watch. Both are awsome. For the history.

Absolutely epic performance. There are not many singers who covered this song, but there is an english version if I recall it right, sung by Michael Bolton and a french/english duet Michael Bolton and Johnny Hallyday - in english it´s called fool for love - not quite the same meaning as the french title 😉
Yes,the Best duo ever❤❤❤
🇨🇦 There is another one, another EPIC song, that you must react to !
And at the same time, you will get to see a small portion of her work ethic !
"I am A-WA" is a Masterpiece, trust me ! 🇨🇦
Really good analysis 👏

I'm not a fan of Jhonny Halliday but this song is amazing.
🎉❤❤❤🎉
A masterpiece, perhaps the most beautiful duet in the world..🎉💥
Lara doing the Yentil melody is a must

Those guys are the best
Gabriel Faure requiem comes to my mind.. the intro is captivating even if not that « complicated »

Oui, ce concert est un bijou absolu!
Without a doubt an incredible performance for both. This performance along with "Tango" (sultry) and the video "Llora" (powerfully emotional) show three very different facets to the artist that is Lara Fabian.
That is an analysis :) well done !
Thank's à lot ❤❤❤🫂🫂🫂
Tous les deux sont de pères Belges, la maman de Lara est Sicilienne et la maman de Johnny est Française

Requiem means: Funeral, Funeral Mass, Funeral Service. So it's a religious piece of music, an obituary, performed during a funeral.
The story of the song is based on a very famous old French classic film: Le Jour se Leve (1939), in which the main character barricades himself after killing his girlfriend and is now surrounded and besieged by the police. He wants to commit suicide by provoking a police officer into killing him.
At this particular concert, Johnny made sure the microphones were balanced in Lara's favor: he wanted her to shine and found that this added even more drama to the duet.
