I want Aegon to be focused on fulfilling his destiny, Visenya to be focused on following the plan, and Rhaenys to be focused on enjoying the experience. Then, I want the friction to develop organically from their different affirmations to the same question.
*Q:* "Why are you doing this?"
*Aegon:* "Because it is my destiny."
*Visenya:* "Because we are the only ones who can."

I feel like its worth mentioning that Rhaenys and Visenya never have ONE dispute that the maesters feel is worth mentioning, despite writing in much detail about the Targaryen's civil disputes after.
Also Visenya and Aegon actually became quite close after Rhaenys' death and they both torched Dorne three times over. Visenya became incredibly protective over Aegon and was rarely not seen by his side and is when she created the King's Guard. They only became distant after AEGON made peace with Dorne and there's nothing to suggest it wasn't Visenya who chose to seperate, unable to agree with the peace after the death of her sister.
I feel like the fandom is very quick to say it was Aegon who had the most autonomy over the dynamic/relationship between the siblings, that what he said was law and he decided who he loved and who he didn't and when to seperate and when to be close. Ancient Valyrians did not have gender roles and the conqueorors were without Westerosi customs or culture. Visenya by all rights would be the one to call the shots and its Aegon and Rhaenys who'd have to follow her lead as the eldest sibling. There's nothing to suggest it was actually her that did not love Aegon, or that it was at least a mutual non-romantic relationship and simply that of two siblings.

    • @DavidLightbringer
      @DavidLightbringer  7 месяцев назад +3

I've literally never heard anyone say that Aegon was the strongest sibling dominating the others. All signs point to Visenya being the "older sister" in e very sens e

    • @danysphoenix
      @danysphoenix 7 месяцев назад +1

@@DavidLightbringer I definitely have seen people pointing to Aegon being the head of the family. But I am more so talking about how the fandom is quick to assume the issues between aegon and visenya is rooted in aegon’s inability to love her or that she has somehow wronged him in some way (fan theories that she killed rhaenys, or that for whatever reason she was jealous that he never loved her back or as much as rhaenys). I have seen discussions on reddit that have gone as far to say that she was simply too “masculine” for Aegon. And many assume it was HIS idea for their separation when in actuality it would seem more fitting for her to have initiated it.

And then Fire and Blood like confirms it for me. So I wonder if the show happens and we get more on Aegon, then that means we'll also get more glimpses of Rhaegar's character through him as well. @@willbeard4835 Yeah, I liked the ending for BCS. The character of Saul was a trauma cope to begin with, so the mutual spiralling after Jimmy and Kim's phone call was a believable inciting incident imo, and his guilty plea was believable knowing Kim was pleading guilty regardless. He didn't have much left at that point anyway, and it tracks that he'd have a bunch of friends inside after so much defending of criminals. I thought they tied up Kim's absence real well, and contextualized BB Saul to be more tragic than comedic (also, the BB Jesse dancing in the lab scene is now on top of Howard/Lalo lol). Only thing I thought could have been better was Lalo's death, but it was fun getting there anyway, even if we knew Gus had plot armour.

If I was writing the show I would spend the entire first season on set up before Aegon's decision to invade and REALLY dig into the big players in Westeros, the regional conflicts and power politics of the pre-conquest kingdoms, and doing character development of Aegon, Visenya, Rhaenys and Orys. Id also show Aegon fighting in the alliance against Volantis to add some extra Dragon action and set up Balerion as the flying doom machine that he is.
Then season two is the Dragon Trio wrecking the northern 6 kingdoms shit. Season three will be the struggle against Dorne and the efforts to unite the kingdoms, with lots of court politics and council meetings in the rapidly growing KL. You could go into the son's of the Dragon stuff as a season 4 or just end it with Aegon making peace with Dorne.

Maybe there’s a danger of too much time spent on something which won't have enough payoff, like Dave mentioned. Though I do like the idea of bonding with- and book readers getting revelations about- house Gardener, before that thing that happens.
And this way, Season 1 can also include the warring between House Durrandon and Harren the Black!

    • @MrHws5mp
      @MrHws5mp 7 месяцев назад +6

You could have the three Targs disagreeing on how best to achieve their aims, with Visenya being the "hawk" who wants to conquer, Rhaenys being the "dove" who wants to build alliances with diplomacy and Aegon swinging from one to the other and back again throughout Season 1. Then the season finale has events push them in the direction of conquest, and the last thing you see before the credits is Aegon planting his fists on the painted table, looking straight into the camera and saying something like, "well conquest it is then..."
Expanding on that a bit, the underlying theme of the first season would be "different ways of getting what you want", with the stories in the other kingdoms being riffs on the pros and cons of hawk vs dove that reflect the debates around the painted table. You could also have a smallfolk story that reflects these in microcosm, making them relateable to ordinary people and setting up some characters who can then experience the war "in the trenches" so that it's not just a kings-and-generals story.

In all seriousness I really do think, that it will be about the siblings dynamics. The dragon after all has three heads, so they should be different but equal. But without any tough opposition it will become basically a One Punch Targaryen show. Who knows, they might explore the Doom of Valeria more. It might be, that the Targaryen didn’t flee from the Freehold, because they saw its doom in a dream, but they did it, because they had a hand in it and now, they will fight some survivors.

How long has Visenya been bullying Aegon? I would imagine that she's been strong arming him for a very long time, and that he has learned to live with it or pick his battles with her.
I'm excited to see if they flesh out the Ironborn more. Getting to know some of the ruling houses/characters from the Conquest will absolutely serve to enhance the Westerosi backstory.
Brandon Snow seems to be very religious, which will give us insight into the wierwood religion, which the main show didn't really provide.
We might actually get some Dornish culture instead of what we got in the main series, aka just "the Dornish like to fuck."
There is a fantastic opportunity here to make this a truthful telling by including one of the main characters of the series/world as a whole; magic, and to also show that war is never black and white.
    I'm excited for this!❤

I have VERY high hopes for how the characters are written. I’m the most worried about Aegon and Visenya, both separately and interacting together. They don’t have a passionate love like Aegon and Rhaenys. It’s usually depicted as a marriage of duty and that’s it, but when Visenya cut Aegon’s cheek it felt like a protective older sister scolding her “idiot” younger brother and I love that dynamic. I mainly hope Visenya isn’t a one-dimensional hot villainess, Aegon isn’t a Marvel hero alpha male, and Rhaenys isn’t just eye candy tagging along for the ride. They all contributed and they are all nuanced characters. We deserve to see characters and not tired tropes.

A few more questions: 1) Casting of Ageon and his sisters - if Caucasian actors are cast, then how does House Velaryon (specifically Valaena Velaryon) factor into this? What they could show is Valaena's dad remarrying someone from House Otherys after Velaena's Targaryen mom passing away, and have that explain why the Velaryons generally possess more melanin in HoTD (just a thought).
    2) Valyrian lemur theory - I posted this on one of your other videos, but I think the 3rd head of the dragon is effectively immortal *provided* the deceased dragon skull remains intact (which is why Aegon cooled his heels after Dorne offered to return the skull of Meraxes) and that the third head has the ability to observe its surroundings through a dragon skull AND possibly affect events in the physical world.
    3) What Valyrian magic/technology is still at Aegon's disposal during his lifetime that no exists (so far as we know) in the GoT/HoTD timeline? We know that the last of the Valyrian pyromancers hid Aegon's song in the steel of the catspaw dagger prior to his death, and we can assume that they knew how to hatch dragon eggs. But what else?
    4) Why so few Targs at the time of the conquest? The only other Targaryen descendant not directly tied to Aerion Targaryen that we know about from this time is a descendant of Gaemon (Aegon the Conqueror's great-great-great grandsire)Targaryen's youngest daughter (who married a petty lord) who makes an appearance at the Great Council of 101 AC. And for that matter, what about the dragonkeepers? Were they descendants of dragonkeepers Aenar brought over (presumably)?
And finally 5) Is Aegon's prophecy tied to a specific Prince or Princess, or is Valyrian prophecy the common refrain or chorus in a song with multiple verses (meaning that ANY descendant of Aegon around during the Long Night could be a potential candidate for the prophecy)?

She wakes and starts telling them about a dragon dream she just had in which she tells them how their descendant will come to rule the entirety of Westeros. I think some of the drama can come from the relationship between Aegon and his bastard brother Orys. How much did he resent not being allowed to marry one of his half siblings and rule as four heads of the Dragon? It was House Baratheon that eventually topple the Targaryen dynasty. And why doesn’t he get a dragon? I think that could be a rich source of conflict.

10:37 speaking of Signs and Portents: I've just listened to History of Westeros's episode on the Dornish Letter, and one aspect of the mystery is of course "why did Aegon immedately fly to Dragonstone?" I believe the letter is related to the prophecy in some way, perhaps the Dornish claiming that their GEotD bloodline will be necessary for the fight to come. Could it be that Aegon was presented with information that could be verified by finding a particular passage in Signs and Portents, which as an important Targ relic was stored on Dragonstone?

If I were writing the show, I would make Brandon Snow and Torrhen Stark look similar, and do the ole parent swap when talking with Aegon- so Aegon thinks he is talking to Brandon and could either figure it out as it progress or figures it out when he shows up to kneel- there's a lot you could do there- and the real Brandon could be doing schemes while they talk to try and figure out how to avoid a war and kneeling- just a lot of potential there I would think.

Oh, there once was a hero named Rhaegar the Boss,
Who came flying from Valyria to old Westeros
And the dragon did swagger and brandish his teeth,
As he smote all the Dornish and made Starks go to knees
But then he went quiet, did Rhaegar the Red
When he met the half-centaur Lyanna, who said:
"Oh, you poud and you lie and talk of prophecies
Now I think it's high time that you put me in the marriage bed to bleed!"
And so then came clashing and slashing of steel,
As the brave lad Robert charched in full of zeal
And the braggart named Rhaegar was no longer at court-
When all of his rubies fell into The Fork
    Skål! :)

All three of them must have claimed their dragons. Vhagar was around 50 years old at the time of the Conquest, Meraxes was was bigger than Vhagar so probably older, and the tradition of placing an egg in the ceadle was started much later by Rhaena when she placed an egg into Jaehaerys's cradle.

Random question. Who would win in a free for all war between the 7 kingdoms and the iron islands excluding magic? With the army sizes and military leaders just before the start of the war of 5 kings. No alliances allowed. I thought about this for hours on end trying to come up with a realistic scenario. Ex if the stormlands attack the the reach. Dorne will attack the stormlands in turn since it's less defended. Food for thought. All I can say with this for sure is that the riverlands will wave the white flag first

Can't wait for the Doom of Valyria flashbacks. Getting giddy just thinking about it. Might have to praise Garth.
For me, Aegon's Conquest has many parallels with the Roman conquest of Britain under Claudius. Long established contact, alliances with local kings, divide and conquer, ruthless destruction of enemies, post-conquest tolerance of local religions.
    Alas, though, no dragons.

Birth order gets overlooked. V definitely has eldest child vibes. I’m guessing she can be a bossy pants but 9 times out of 10 she’s right amd her siblings know that which is why they get along ok. A has the middle child go your own way vibe. He strikes me as an introvert too. R is the baby. Everyone loves the baby. The baby makes people laugh. And the baby kind of gets away with stuff sometimes. I’m guessing V was never jealous of R because V saw R as the baby, to be protected and loved, not as a rival.

Possibility: the prophecy is actually from Rhaenys or at the least the dagger belongs to Rhaenys. Aegon and Visenya both have valyrian steel that we know of but Rhaenys was not really a warrior. If she were to have valyrian steel a dagger would fit her much more

bro that would be so funny if aegon turns out to be traumatized and completely in over his head caught between two sisters and lovers, plagued by visions of white walkers and prophecy, burdened by destiny and extremely remorseful over the lives hes taken so this whole series will be from the maesters therapy sessions point of view or maybe not the maesters maybe a behind the scenes look at his relationship with his queens like how jaeherys and his daughters drove him mad maybe his queens prophecies, fire and blood are the equivalent to the daughters of king J. i said king J cause i never spell the names right

Aegon is a mistery and so little beeing written about him is quite strange. I feel like he could have been a Rheagar type obsessed by the dreamers prophecy and maybe having some glimpses himself as well. He might see the invasion as a duty not beeing what he wanted in life and he might have had the melancholy / depressed streak as well for he remembered his father telling him stories of old Valyria and how their empire crumbled into dust leaving nothing then their family. Could be his older sister has to butkick him all the time to do go shit and he loves his small sister for she does confort him.
The way little is written about him surely is done by GRRM to keep him mysterious but maybe there wasnt much to write about him. Sure he had dragons, and conquered but maybe his heart wasnt really in it and yeah he was mediocrity rid large by the fact of beeing a dragonlord. Even as he toured across the land there are no accounts of him having lots of friends or people disliking him. He seemed to be kinda just there beeing mediocre.
I also wonder how much impact Balerion had on him potencially making him even more depressed and somber. Good chance the dragon missed Valyria badly.
Overall this could make a lot of sense. Viserys in the show is pretty obsessed with Valyria and blood and fire did hint that Aerea had been carried of to old Valyria by Balerion as well. Meagor was a madlad but we dont know if during his exile he wasnt tempted by going there. Seems like our black dread over here might have had a go home agenda.

    As I said before:
The Conquest show will either have to be really cinematic and mythical, or it won't work. And it will probably have to be noticeably shorter than got and hotd.
This offers far less political intrigue than got or hotd. That being said, I think it's doable, Dunk'n'Egg stories are also far less about intrigues.

The only real question I have for them is do they actually have a story they want to tell with it, or are they pushing to make this show simply as a cash grab.
Don’t get me wrong I love seeing new asoiaf content being made, but Aegon’s conquest was a very brief affair and I’m not quite sure how they could make an entire series about it. Especially when like you mentioned, Aegon & his sisters just absolutely steamrolled everyone.
If I recall the only battle where they didn’t immediately unleash hell on the world was the Stormlands and that was simply because Aegon & Visenya were not there. They just sent Rhaenys along with an army led by Orys Baratheon.
Their only real struggle in the whole affair was Dorne, who just flat out refused to fight, instead opting to hide and wait out the storm, then come out and kill all the new management.

Aaron Taylor Johnson would be perfect for Aegon I Targaryen he such a fantastic actor. I feel he brings something new, and Annabelle Wallis as Visenya Targaryen, I watch a bit of Peaky Blinders she seems like she can pull it off Lucy Boynton as Princess Rhaenys Targaryen I want an actor who not that famous she famous but like Aaron Taylor Johnson I feel she can pull off but if Aaron taylor johnson doesn't play Aegon I Targaryen Callum Turner would be good and wouldn't mind
