    The first farm I worked on was had about 40 milk cows and 500 sheep. What we didn't chop for silage we picked with a New Idea 324 picker that had a 12 roll hucking bed. Ear corn was ground for the cows. After the cribs were full we used another 324 with a shelling unit to shell off the remaining corn. We stored it in the chopper wagons, then we would line kicker wagons with plywood and fill a couple of them then we filled up all the gravity wagons we had. We used the shelled corn to feed out lambs. A lot of people would comment about how the New Idea pickers butt shelled corn especially if it was dry, but we didn't mind so much because we turned the sheep out on the corn fields after picking and they would find all of it. I can remember getting pretty damn cold after spending all day running the picker. We ran them with the Power shift 4020. I plant about 20 acres of my own corn for steers make pretty good side money from freezer beef, lambs, broilers and turkeys. I stuck with the New Idea 325 because they share parts with the 324. Those things are sitting all over the countryside in the fence rows. Plus I found a company that refurbishes New Idea pickers and says if they can't get parts from Agco they'll make them.

      @@markwolf8153 Country Machinery LLC. They are in Leona Pennsylvania. So far my Agco dealer has come through on parts for me. I saw a story about them in Farm Show Magazine, saved their information on my phone. I believe they have a large Amish market for those pickers.

    I pulled a two row New Idea superpicker with the bigger husking bed with my 4020, that was a good rig, and could really handle the corn, Love this video.

    I just cant believe how they have access to just such a large variety of fruits , trees and plants. Feels like they live in paradise. Fresh produce right on their door step , surrounded by nature and enjoyed together in a close knit family and community! All the money in the world cant buy what they have.

      @bw6378  10 месяцев назад +1

      The wagons wont be unloaded for a while. It would be essentially the same process as you see here transferring from the small wagon to the larger ones though.

    Oh I see now, it is the whole corn! Next time I`ll finish the video 1`s before I say something. I`m not been funny bro, but are u filming from the space station? How in the world can your drone manage to go sooooo high? (@2:50)

    • @bw6378
      @bw6378  4 месяца назад

      Yes that's right a "picker" is for the whole ear of corn. A "combine" combines a "picker" and a "sheller" in one machine. In rural areas I will sometimes fly higher to give a better perspective. Without getting into specifics, most drone are able to go quite high, although depending on location and regulations etc. the altitude may be limited.
      Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Now, b w, my guess is that this is a baby combine. You said this machine is used for piking ear corn? I honestly don`t know what that is! Is it like the whole corn?

    What brand picker ? Is there a market still for ear corn ?

    • @bw6378
      @bw6378  9 месяцев назад

      Its a John Deere picker. There isn't a big market for ear corn, just some small demand such as squirrel food etc.

    36" rows? if so, can you populate to compete with what 30" rows put out?

    • @bw6378
      @bw6378  10 месяцев назад +1

      The rows are actually 30". The Deere 300 picker can switch to use heads off a combine, which is the case here. Half the field was harvested with a combine and the other half with the picker.

    Why emptying into another cart? Travels down the road better?

      In this case the large wagons are put inside and stored for the winter.

      Picker could not effectively fill the larger wagon…sides may be too high for picker elevator, pulled a 300, not sized for large wagons
