My favorite thing about Feanor is that he loved his father more dearly than any other. He may have fallen in the end, but Tolkien makes special mention of the love he had for his father - even above the Silmarils of his own making.
"Fëanor is a craftsman of ALL things... save, apparently, for relationships!" That really made me laugh. I didn't think of your channel as a source for comedy, but you do have some great wit, Arachîr!
Great video. Ever since reading the Silmarillion I found Feanor in particular to be a fascinating character. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this, but I would love to see more videos based in the First Age. Characters like Hurin, and Turin; and places like Gondolin and Doriath really do deserve some attention. I would like to also say that you have a really good voice for storytelling. I would totally buy an audio book of the Silmarillion with you narrating (though I know that would be A LOT haha).

Well thank you very much sir. :) When i listened to this back i couldn't help but wince at the outrageous number of times I actually say Feanor. You could probably make a drinking game out of it and get hammered. :P Haha The First Age is the main focus of the lore videos from here. I have covered the main events of the 3rd Age quite extensively so now we will shall venture into the 1st as the 2nd age is basically just Numenor and we have covered much of that as well. :P

I am sure he had his reasons. I would get to into the whys and the wherefores if I were you. Just enjoy what there is.
Arachîr Galudirithon I think it's neither wrong nor useless to be analytical and even critical of the authors (and authorities) we love. In the contrary, true respect, trust and love can all withstand some rebellion. I'm sure Tolkien would agree.
Anarion Elendili Glad to be of service. And Arachîr, I only now understood the misunderstanding between us. When I said you didn't give Nerdanel enough credit, I didn't mean that you should have told her life story in a video about Fëanor. I was referencing your comment that she has no point other than giving birth to babies, and that after that she just drops out of the story. That's not exactly true (she's a well written character, an interesting and mature female character, and has a great life story of her own), and I thought it was unfair both to Nerdanel and Tolkien. Especially in the context that people often accuse Tolkien of writing weak female characters, or not having them at all. It just stood out for me. It was probably completely unintentional on your part - but I used the opportunity to fight one of the unfair stereotypes people have of Tolkien. (Incidentally another major one is that all characters are black or white. The House of Fëanor is a strong counter-argument against that too!)
I want to thank you for making these videos. I am currently reading the book of lost tales and needed a reminder concerning the story of the exiled Noldoli.
You're damn right Feanor would not have such animosity towards his brothers if Finwe didn't remarry. In fact he wouldn't have any brothers. So there's that. BTW Love these lore videos!!
I do agree that Nerdanel wasn't given quite enough credit! She was a renowned sculptress who made statues so lifelike that others would initially mistake them for real people, she and Feanor journeyed together a lot in their youth and were drawn to each other as they were both artists and free spirits. She had very strong foresight and predicted the death of her youngest child, and ultimately refused to join Feanor in exile as she knew it would end in ruin. In what is a huge distinction from other elven women, she was described as being not particularly pretty, so people were surprised when Feanor wanted to marry her. But she was "strong and free of mind," and there is definitely a lot more to her than just giving birth to seven kids!
Hello! I just wanted to say thank you for explaining so much of the lore. You are one of two RUclipsrs I follow on LOTR lore and mythology. Both of you are immensely enjoyable to listen to. Your videos are much much longer, which is extremely nice. My husband and I sat one night listening to one of your videos about the elves and it was so interesting and relaxing at the same time. I am aware of the time and effort to put videos such as these together, so thank you for your hard work. There might always be critics, however we truly enjoy your videos and look forward to them!
Finarfin had a very good reason to remain in Valinor and not go with his brothers to Middle-Earth. He was married to Earwen, the daughter of Olwë, king of the Teleri in Alqualondë: the Elves that Feanor had just killed. "But in that hour Finarfin forsook the march, and turned back, being filled with grief, and with bitterness against the House of Fëanor, because of his kinship with Olwë of Alqualondë"
This was really, really well done. I think a follow up video on the sons would be great. One thing that never seemed to be resolved though was whether it was Miriel or Finwe who was eventually reembodied. It seems like it has to be one or the other, else they would be reunited either in Mandos or Valinor.
Also Thanks a lot Arachir for doing this video, not because i havent read the Silmarillion or understood it but because this video made me read the Silmarillion again even though before i didnt have time i love the videos you do and i hope you gain more fame and wish you luck.
I think it'd be really interesting if Fëanor hadn't charged forward, but remained back with the rest of the army, or didn't pursue them at all. I wonder what great things they could have accomplished; I think first there would be a fortress to rival Angband (or at least try to), and many works, especially weapons and jewels.
My first time here I was talking about this morning and I was just listening to a video in Gps chat and didn't touch my phone and this pops up by it self but of course you probably know this ....thank you thank you
Great video, Arachir. Like you hinted in some of your recent videos, you clearly prepared for this one; both your lore information and your presentation were excellent. Although, now I'm going to have to start bugging you to re-make the Ainulindale video, just so we can hear your sardonic assessments of all of the Valar. I'm going to be laughing at Manwe as "a bit of a sucker" and especially Mandos as "a grumpy and very unhelpful bugger" for a long time.

That is just how they cam across when I was reading the S for the video. :P
4:00 Here is like watching an incomplete list of my deceased XCOM soldiers in my current playthrough of the game, most of them have died via plasma to the face. In true spirit of his namesake, my Feanor died within two turns of leaving the Skyranger. Mind you this is the proper game, not the 2012 softie remake... :p Ahem, anyway, an excellent video! Thanks a lot! :)
I have no idea what divide and conquer is nor do I know what type of "mods" you make are, however you know all there is to know about Middle-earth and for that I thank you.
Idea for spicing up Dwarves of Ered Luin: Adding a building like the Gwaith-i-Mírdain to one of the settlements, except instead of rediscovering the skill of Celebrimbor it would have to do with rediscovering heritage of the dwarves of Belegost. My suggested building benefits (not saying all of these, just whichever/however many would be appropriate) would be: extra smithing level like Khazad-dum, experience bonus to troops, being able to train some Erebor and Khazad-dum units, or if you're willing to sacrifice a unit slot a new uber-elite armor-piercing axe unit based on Azaghâl's dwarves who forced the dragon Glaurung to retreat from Nirnaeth Arnoediad.
Tomasz Wojtasik I cant play lindon without going getting bored and blitzing bree. Khand is fun if you can get to gondor early on. Still need to play a full campaign of Dol Anroth.
Liam Newman tbh those are some of the easiest ones, Lindon is never really attacked, Ered Luin doesn't get attacked unless you do nothing as them, Khand isn't attacked ever, and Dol Amroth has such good cav it's pathetic
Great lore video! I was just thinking there needs to be a channel on Tolkien lore like Arch does for Warhammer. Very epic tale, its interesting how it all ties together.
Cant really blame Mandos, i mean if your entire purpose was to watch over and judge the souls of the dead for all eternity you'd be pretty miserable too
Feanor arrives at the feast of the Valar with his pride on his sleeves so-to-speak. He arrives without the silmarils and denies all in attendance a sight of there glory. And this is noted by Tolkien because it tells of Feanors overbearing pride!
Fëanor and Melkor should have been mentioned much more in the Lotr movies....just SOMETHING about them...would have made the movies perfect for me! The first three at least^^
Can you make a video about beorninger please, the carrok, gladen fields and a second video about everything east of rohivanon, east of mirkwood everthing east of erebor. Thx man love you
And Eru flattened Numinor as they worshipped Melkor (tricked in the same way as the Valar), but the Valar release him so he caused immeasurable further damage n nothing happens? Cruel God indeed!
I thought Ungoliant was a Maiar who joined Melkor in the beginning (before the Elves awakened), she desired her own dominion over life and basically became a renegade and changed into a spider.
7 лет назад
+de Morhalle Nope Ungoliant is an anomaly like Tom Bombadil.
I love your Lore videos so much and I want them to never end. I've listed to most of them multiple times. Especially the long ones. Would you consider making a video explaining the ages and parts of ages. Like how they are counted. What is considered an age and what not. Also, would you consider teaching elvish?
For Elvish you could start here, to learn some basic rules: www.councilofelrond.com/content/languages-of-middle-earth/#studyelvish And for the pronunciation you have this: sindarinlessons.weebly.com/1---pronunciation.html It's all pretty easy to learn.
Thanks! I've started.. Pretty much on and off for years. My main thing I want to be sure of is sentence structure really. I usually use Arwenundomiel.com.. It's difficult to find people who also speak it so then it becomes kind of useless unfortunately.
Galu, your videos are the most accurate lore wise I've listened to. I greatly appreciate that, and you do a remarkable job with the timeline. Feanor is one of my lesser favourite characters but you did a wondrous job on making him appealing. I personally favour the Houses of Fingolfin and Finarfin. What's your favourite house in Finwë's line?
7 лет назад
I am not all that keen on the first age elves but I must say that I like Fingolfin so I suppose I would go with his line. :)
I can't help but associate Feanor's saga with the Sons of Ragnar that declare war on the world after his death, albeit in this case it's a doom-oath against any usurper of the Silmarils. Still, the stories hold the same iconoclastic, mythical status within their respective worlds. The fact one can say "the Sons of Feanor" and "the Sons of Ragnar" as titles rather than descriptors is probably the main reason.
To clarify, eru made the elves before the valar, maia knew they existed, so how do we get these cases where certain elves have decended from them? Or just, crossbreading
How did you do those fonts? Are there any that anyone/you would recommend? I know there's a special Tengwar keyboard layout, but are there any fonts you use/would use? Thanks.
I'm pretty sure the Balrogs came from Utumno, b/c wasn't Sauron the one who was in Angband? I even remember something about the Valar not checking the deepest of caverns in Utumno where the Balrogs resided
Im pretty sure that Sauron gave no help in the crafting of the first three rings. He only helped with the others. That is why his ring has no power over the elvish rings. I am almost positive of this but again i may be wrong.
7 лет назад
+PhantomNation The elven rings were last. Celebrimbor did craft them in secret but Sauron gave him the knowledge of how to do so and there is a small link between the three and the one.
Hello Arachir, You don't have to, but can you do a lore video about Aragorn or Aragorn II Elessar. Aragorn is one of the most renowned characters in Tolkien's works, and a favorite by many. As I said, you don't need to make a lore video about Aragorn. For I do know, in a basic understanding, Aragorn and his story/history. I don't know if you have done this or not. I would really love it if you do. Besides, I do think you do a amazing job with your videos and you are one of the reasons I know about a great deal of the legendarium, so thank you. Have a great day or night.
Melkor also states that the Valar are holding the elves back from middle-earth because they want Men to inherit it when they wake. And that men not elves are the favored children of the Valar.
Hi Arachîr Galudirithon, in some of your videos you mention that you know Sindarin. How did you learn it and where can I find credible resources about it. Thanks for helping, big fan of yours.
Alright Galu i have a unique question. Would you be able to tell me how i might be able to add more black smith levels to the turks or ND. I just put them on the list for factions that can build that level of blacksmith. Sadly such a simple fix doesnt really work, for one it doesnt use correct ui. That doesnt really bother me at all but the constant crashing produced by this amateur change is infuriating. So i would greatly appreciate a solution if you could give me one. Im very experienced with the EDB and the other accompanying files used to implement units so i could fix the problem with some guidance please.
I could help you fix the UI problem but the crashes, not so much. I assume the reason it crashes is because the higher level blacksmiths are only supposed to be available to the Dwarves and Elves. Their is probably a hidden resource or something that governs whether or not they are buildable. That's just a guess, though. It could also be something to do with scripts. Also, I don't know how armor upgrades actually work. Since the ND don't have the higher level blacksmiths. So, I would assume they wouldn't even really benefit from higher level blacksmiths. You would also need to implement new armor levels if you want this to really work.
El Monstero29 well the reason i gave them the same blacksmith level as gondor is so they could get visual arnor upgrades for all the gondor/ other faction units that can have it. This wasnt possible before because ND didnt have high enough Blacksmith but thatnkyou for the reply and help
Could you further explain a bit what you mean with being slain and die in the perspective of Fëanor and Finwë? Míriel has 'passed' to the Halls of Mandos, being life-tired as we see is a vulnerability of Elves in general. Fëanor claims he would be 'dissolved', sort of, as if he were a Second Child of Ilúvatar, am I correct? Now if Mandos says that he would not be the first to do so, Finwë has died dead (like an Adan) too, but how so? Do you consider Fëanor's oath and claim on imcompetence of the Valar to be a parallel to modern day populism, or is that too much conjecture? Great video. Good pronunciation too, it's not easy to be English and it's particular ways of speech but you managed well. The knowledge you offer you do in a very comfortable and telling way. The sacrifice of 100% truth is worth that auditive aura you arouse inside us :)
7 лет назад
I think the difference is that Miriel 'died' but Finwe was 'killed' and Feanor claims that to destroy the Silmarils would be to 'kill' him. So he erroneously believes he would be the first elf to be slain in Valinor. I don't know what populism is.
My main question Galu. Is why did you omit that Feanor had a big part in creating the Death Star? I could be wrong but isn't that worthy of some screen time?
7 лет назад+3
Hahaha. Ah I feel foolish. How could I miss that out!
Can we compare Feanor with Glorfindel in strenght? Probably not in crafting or wisdom... Anyway, awesome video i LOVED IT!
7 лет назад
Feanor was perhaps not the physically strongest but to go to to toe with so many Balrogs would suggest at least a modicum of strength not found in many of his kin. Of course Feanor's brother takes on Morgoth in a duel and manages to wound him so in terms of raw strength I think Fingolfin got the Lion's share.
Thanks for the answer. Would be fun to see a scale of sorts in categories, wondering where each famous elf would land :p Ahhh, probably an idea for you Arachir, down the line... maybe...
@ lmao that half blood inter race loser scum dare not even take on feanor when he challenged him to a duel. Neither did morgoth who had his whole army take on feanor rather than face him and waited till he was out of house to steal his gems. Lmao btw that morgoth that the half blood scum face was already weakened as he shared his essence and power to alot of his other creations like dragons etc.
Although I have to take issue...you said Feanor was one of the most famous of the Eldar,,,he was the closest to DIVINE of any of the Children of Eru...the Silmarills rivalled the work of the Valar, and they were the basis of all of Middle Earth's history until the Dominion of Men.
Jeff Wahomes no she did not. she went over Helcaraxe with her brothers. Feaonor n his sons comitted the kinslaying. there was a land bridge called Helcaraxe similar to antartica lol. Terribly cold tons of elves died but Galadriel and the grratest survived. If she comitted the slaying she wouldnt have been in allowed Doriath.
Zach Garrett There are several versions of the story. In the most recent one, she did play a part in the First Kinslaying along with Celeborn, but on the side of the Teleri.
Are the Silmarills made out of the same materials as the one ring?
7 лет назад
No they aren't. The ring is just made of metal and then some 'concepts'. The SIlmarils are made of unknown substances but they contain light from the trees of Valinor.
May I just correct you on the fact that it is Ossë that is hindered by the Valar, but Uinen drowns many of the Ñoldor.
7 лет назад
Vindication. I can say with utter surety that it is Ulmo (being one of the Valar) who cannot intervene but Osse does and drowns many ships. I know this as I wrote it straight out of the book. (I had to research Feanor a lot more than I do for other videos as I am not all that interested in him TBH)
hey, is it possible that Melkor got the idea of embedding his own soul n power n preserving himself like done here by fëanor in silmarils and in the end goes on to create the One ring ! so in a way, Silmirials creation made the creation of the One ring into the picture.
We will probably stick with the Feanor tree and tell the fates of his sons. After that I would probably cover the fates of Fingolfin and his sons and then maybe Finarfin and his sons. :) I like videos with a more clearly defined theme as they are easier to get behind and have a nice continuity to them.
Arachîr Galudirithon Wouldnt it be easier but longer to do all of that in one video, i mean you could make different videos with breaks in between and compile it into one long video that would cover basically everything, just a suggestion but im just saying.
HELL YEAH! LOOKS LIKE LORE'S BACK ON THE MENU, BOYS!
mattparks94 NOOOOO WHHHHY GALADRIEL lol. She is eaisly one of my top fav characters. Sooooo many different versions of his tales ugh. I dont get how she "passed the test" how is that relevant to the one ring and being able to return to Valinor?

thank you for reading my mind, Valars basicaly cursed one of the races they should protect.
He certainly sounds like the most Dwarvish Elf, if that makes sense XD
A very apt description indeed. :)
Well, I would give that title to Eol, but it is sitting for Feanor too
Dwarvers are the ones who are Feanorian, as he is probably older than the dwarven race.
Whomever you are. Thank you sir. I have come back to your videos many times for peace and just enjoyment. Thank you.
"Had Finwe not remarried, Feanor might not have had that animosity towards his brothers"
Kind of obvious, because his brothers would not have existed. lol
But I understand what you were trying to say.

High quality work as ever. Thanks!
My first time here I was talking about this morning and I was just listening to a video in Gps chat and didn't touch my phone and this pops up by it self but of course you probably know this ....thank you thank you
automatic Like for all of your videos, love the lore information, one of my most important research places your videos for my story
congrats on 20k! 🙌🙌
Absolutely love these. 1 hour! That makes it even better. ;)
Ahem, anyway, an excellent video! Thanks a lot! :)
I'll share tis on my page's! Great videos! :D :)
Tomasz Wojtasik What about choosing Nogrod or Belegost's past and one makes evil one makes you good
Tomasz Wojtasik Yea, being evil without "backstabing" everyone would add a noce twist to ered luin
Liam Newman The most boring factions IMO are Ered Luin Khand Dol Amroth and Lindon
The light of the trees never went beyond Valinor due to the height of the Pelori mountain range.
Great lore video! I was just thinking there needs to be a channel on Tolkien lore like Arch does for Warhammer. Very epic tale, its interesting how it all ties together.
Cant really blame Mandos, i mean if your entire purpose was to watch over and judge the souls of the dead for all eternity you'd be pretty miserable too
Great stuff as always. Thank you :)
Feanor arrives at the feast of the Valar with his pride on his sleeves so-to-speak. He arrives without the silmarils and denies all in attendance a sight of there glory. And this is noted by Tolkien because it tells of Feanors overbearing pride!
Great work on this one Galu
23:32 "Tyrion on the hill of Tuna"
Hard not to laugh at that lol
Fëanor and Melkor should have been mentioned much more in the Lotr movies....just SOMETHING about them...would have made the movies perfect for me! The first three at least^^
Great video mate... but I'm very surprised you didn't even mention the Palentiri or that Feanor created them.
6:39 "Curu" also appears in the name of Curunir (Man of Skill), aka Saruman.
Can you make a video about beorninger please, the carrok, gladen fields and a second video about everything east of rohivanon, east of mirkwood everthing east of erebor. Thx man love you
We know barely anything though.
And Eru flattened Numinor as they worshipped Melkor (tricked in the same way as the Valar), but the Valar release him so he caused immeasurable further damage n nothing happens? Cruel God indeed!
If Feanor never comes back in bodily form does that mean he does not fight at Dagor Dagorath?
I thought Ungoliant was a Maiar who joined Melkor in the beginning (before the Elves awakened), she desired her own dominion over life and basically became a renegade and changed into a spider.
+de Morhalle Nope Ungoliant is an anomaly like Tom Bombadil.
@ 1:00 this curse could technically make shadow of mordor canon
I love your Lore videos so much and I want them to never end. I've listed to most of them multiple times. Especially the long ones. Would you consider making a video explaining the ages and parts of ages. Like how they are counted. What is considered an age and what not. Also, would you consider teaching elvish?
For Elvish you could start here, to learn some basic rules: www.councilofelrond.com/content/languages-of-middle-earth/#studyelvish
And for the pronunciation you have this: sindarinlessons.weebly.com/1---pronunciation.html
It's all pretty easy to learn.
I am not all that keen on the first age elves but I must say that I like Fingolfin so I suppose I would go with his line. :)
Low class inter race half blood siblings scums beta wuss.
Best lore video so far :)
I even remember something about the Valar not checking the deepest of caverns in Utumno where the Balrogs resided
ow man i love these lore video's
If Gil-Galad was Fingon's son how come when he died the High kingship of the Noldor went to Turgon?
In a hideously sad way..the Doom of Mandos besmirched the Edain fro day one...
Im pretty sure that Sauron gave no help in the crafting of the first three rings. He only helped with the others. That is why his ring has no power over the elvish rings. I am almost positive of this but again i may be wrong.
+PhantomNation The elven rings were last. Celebrimbor did craft them in secret but Sauron gave him the knowledge of how to do so and there is a small link between the three and the one.
Can you a lore video on magic in middle-earth?
Hello Arachir,
You don't have to, but can you do a lore video about Aragorn or Aragorn II Elessar.
Have a great day or night.
plz do a vid on Fingolfin he is one of my fav's!
my son's middle name is Feanor
A worthy name indeed. Were I to dip into the Legendarium I think I would go with Glorfindel as he is my favourite character.
It was how much Feanor's parents loved him that made the name fit. We love our little Nathaniel Feanor.
Arachîr Galudirithon glorfindel is my favourite character too
You should do a video on the 3 kinslaying
Melkor also states that the Valar are holding the elves back from middle-earth because they want Men to inherit it when they wake. And that men not elves are the favored children of the Valar.
Hi Arachîr Galudirithon, in some of your videos you mention that you know Sindarin. How did you learn it and where can I find credible resources about it.
Thanks for helping, big fan of yours.
if your American Google your local learning annex
from anywhere else there is an online class just Google it or RUclips it
THHHEEEEE LOOOOOORD OF WATER SPOKE!
Would feanor be classed as a bad elf or one that craves smithing
Elrond can not take leadership as a High-King for his house is of the Edain.
420 videos! We need to celebrate this
If I remember correctly. I thought you said in your Elves video that the first age began with the awakening of the first elves . ?
This wasnt possible before because ND didnt have high enough Blacksmith but thatnkyou for the reply and help
can anyone tell me the song that plays in the background from around 18:40 to 19:20 ?? i've been searching high and low to no avail...
I think the difference is that Miriel 'died' but Finwe was 'killed' and Feanor claims that to destroy the Silmarils would be to 'kill' him. So he erroneously believes he would be the first elf to be slain in Valinor.
I don't know what populism is.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Populism Like the UKIP, Marie Le Pen, Alternative für Deutschland and Geert Wilders
My main question Galu. Is why did you omit that Feanor had a big part in creating the Death Star?
I could be wrong but isn't that worthy of some screen time?
Hahaha. Ah I feel foolish. How could I miss that out!
Well..,
maybe it's time for a War of the Beleriand submod Arachir!!!!!! :):):):):)
You forgot that feanor had two half sisters as well
Feanor, it's me !!!
I have a theory, the Arkenstone is a the silmaril that Maedhros drops
I have heard tell of this suggestion. There would need to be some sort of underground river for it to work though surely?
Arachîr Galudirithon I agree, but Tolkien never said anything about it being or not being one
Is it bad if I get mad when I watch the movies e.t.c? It just makes me realize how boring the real world is
LOVE THIS VIDEO
Can we compare Feanor with Glorfindel in strenght? Probably not in crafting or wisdom...
Anyway, awesome video i LOVED IT!
Great stuff, but.. with a script and some editing, along with a rehearsal beforehand would have made this video flow so much better.
Maybe but it is a hobby, not a job.
Although I have to take issue...you said Feanor was one of the most famous of the Eldar,,,he was the closest to DIVINE of any of the Children of Eru...the Silmarills rivalled the work of the Valar, and they were the basis of all of Middle Earth's history until the Dominion of Men.
So how is my statement incorrect? :P
Did Galadriel take part in the kinslaying? Remember she is part Teleri.
Yes she did, but on the side of the Teleri.
I'd hate feanor for killing miriel essentially. It would be like how tywin hates tyrion.
Except without the fact that he's a dwarf.
Oh, and why is it Ñoldor, with this ~ on it?
This interesting dude
Are the Silmarills made out of the same materials as the one ring?
No they aren't. The ring is just made of metal and then some 'concepts'. The SIlmarils are made of unknown substances but they contain light from the trees of Valinor.
Fëanor!
May I just correct you on the fact that it is Ossë that is hindered by the Valar, but Uinen drowns many of the Ñoldor.
Why did you disable the comments on the other videos?
Arachir, whats next?
We will probably stick with the Feanor tree and tell the fates of his sons. After that I would probably cover the fates of Fingolfin and his sons and then maybe Finarfin and his sons. :) I like videos with a more clearly defined theme as they are easier to get behind and have a nice continuity to them.
Arachîr Galudirithon Wouldnt it be easier but longer to do all of that in one video, i mean you could make different videos with breaks in between and compile it into one long video that would cover basically everything, just a suggestion but im just saying.
