Nice colorful kitchen towel burrito!! This should really make for a cool checkin! I'm glad you finally decided to put it down below!! Excellent video AV!!🪱🪱🪱
In the same way the compostable bag test has dual day counters in my tracking spreadsheet, so does this cotton fabric experiment. One counting the days since the test began, and another counting the number of days of actual active composting :)
I put a whole cotton shirt with a pretty big feeding, then left for holiday for one and a 1/2 month, the worms went through all of it. The short was srill in good condition when I left, but been in there for ~2 months. If that's the only thing left (for long time) they'll vandalise it. Perhaps with the 'lasagna' you did here it will make it happen sooner. 😉 Cheers!
Perhaps I should also just leave this system to go unchecked for an extended period of time so that the worms can put a nice dent into the towel & impress us with the progress they made :)
Great plan! Sorry I havent been around. I need to catch up on some videos. Ive wanted to experiment with fibers as well. I was covering a few of my bins with an old cotton shirt but that slowly disappeared. Thanks for sharing. 🙋♀️
I've been wanting to experiment with fabrics other than cotton... but so far that is the only type that I have tried in the worm bins. Some day it would be cool to try wool & silk too 👍🏻
If we're lucky, then they'll come in for the food & stay because they like being in & nibbling on the towel. I'm looking forward to seeing what things look like next time we check in on these little guys :)
What are your thoughts on using a dog food bag as a worm bin? I'm talking about one of the big 50 LB woven plastic bags, you can roll the top down to make a nice rim and keep the bag open. Unroll the bag as it fills up slowly. My thought was that it may leak if water builds up, but if you can manage the moisture it could be a good way to upcycle. New experiment?
Interesting idea. I have no pets _(unless you count my wormies & the birds that I have multiple feeders & a bath for)_ - so there are no old dog food bags around here; however, there are a number of old large bird seed bags. I should begin a running list of suggested ideas from viewers. There is never a shortage of new, interesting experiment suggestions :)

A towel and kitchen scraps stromboli. The worms should be very happy to play in the towel.😀👍🏼🪱

I was thinking about using a dog food bag as a grow bag.
I think the holes are too big when they get stretched
Best castings are of African night crawler
I agree. They *are* nice!
