@@guitarplayer5932 Yes, subs can be part of a line array but just because you stack in cardioid does not make them a line array on their own. Line array and point source refer to how the entire system plays together, and have little to do with subs. Technically, if the subs are on the ground, and non subs are in the air then no they are not part of a line array, but simply reinforcing the line array. Subs that are a part of the line array are embedded with the rest of the drivers, full range cabinets. See if you can find info on the Clair i5D system. It has full range boxes in it's line array.
Yeah, cardioid setups will help with keeping sub rumble away from the stage and people playing vinyl for example or vocalists will have a much easier time performing.
They need to strap it all together. The vibration is going to shift it and fall. I learn that from Jamaican DJ. They use really really big speaker box & 21” subwoofer they strap it really tight. Box’s don’t even flinch. They use like six speaker on top of four or five 21” subwoofer on bottom and stack high those big monster speaker on top Heavy boxes Sounds fabulous. They do competition. Not the size but how clear it sounds that’s what they look for. I follow these guys they meet any were. They come from all over the state and Caribbean. Love to see them. 🎧🎤
With the weight of these setups, you don't need straps. Source: myself. Running Martin Audio SXH218's in this configuration at Liquicity festival (Drum and bass) the cabinets are going nowhere. These weigh 136kg per cabinet and they have slots in the top for the rails on the bottom of the subs to lock into.
Yes it isa cardiod setup. However make sure to do your phasing and tuning accordingly. NOTE: those subs are ZSound brand. I have them as well. They work great stacked with all subs facing forward. The trick is to leave 3 feet (1 meter)of space between each stack of subs. They have an excellent long throw with a minimum projection to stage.
In this particular setup, the rear-facing sub is delayed and polarity reversed. That delay causes the rear-facing sub, which is closer to you, if it were right behind you, to arrive at the same time as the forward-facing sub. (Remember, a sub is an omnidirectional source. This is why sub arrays are made.) That time can vary, depending on where you want to achieve the sub's cancellation at the back, or where you want to direct the lobe at the front.
IF done right. That's a big IF. 90% of cardioid subs deployed do not match the coverage pattern of the tops. Also, the question is about a line array, so where is it? Subs are not a line array.
Oh, it's so cool. I seen it on youtube so it must be the latest and greatest! Fashion rulez!! LMFAO Why, because Trey is gonna come jam and bass will make him shit himself. Poor mike.
cardiod sub. 🤤 when you have enough money to phase cancel low frequency behind the subarray while getting more amplitude in front just flipping the polarity of the middle subwoofer.
Use ONLY when you don't want bass behind the sub stack. Many bitch ass performers shit themselves when they hear bass, and this will keep the bass from pounding the stage. All 3 forward will be more powerful. Cardioid makes the coverage of the subs VERY directional, where as all 3 forward will cover the crowd way better. Also, way up high if the top of the line array has to throw far. A cardioid sub hang, way up top, will compliment the the far throw without affecting the near field. No, not just for loud stuff. Cardioid can be useful in many other scenarios.
No the stage level is smaller than a 3 sub stack so you can be sure everybody even the production is going to tell you to move this, 10 minutes before the show
The polarity on the box facing backwards is reversed, then there’s a slight time delay added to the other boxes to time-align them with the rear facing one, so essentially every sub acts like it’s facing forwards to the audience, no difference up front. However, the boxes are designed so that when you do this, the sound is out of phase behind the array. So whoever replied about cancellation was correct. It allows for musicians to better hear their stage monitors, and not have a ton of low muffled rumbly noise on stage. I play bass guitar, and in my time with the School of Rock program we played venues with pretty crap sound systems. I relied on hearing the singers thru wedge stage monitors for cues to start playing my part, and in one venue in particular it was hard to hear the monitors when a ton of muddy bass from the kick drum and palm muted guitars was vibrating everything!! And all those venues only had subwoofers facing forward, which by the way doesn’t matter because bass is omnidirectional when it’s coming from a single subwoofer. It’s why this setup exists in the first place!
No, not really. Maxx bass would be them all facing forward. Cardioid is for pussies like Trey from Phish, Eric Clapton, and James Taylor who shit themselves when they hear any bass. Cardioid pushes low end that wraps around the box back to the front keeping that wrap from affecting the stage. It does not increase the forward more than if all 3 were forward.

Yes that’s right..it’s an Inverted Cardiod Subwoofer Configuration..very efficient when arrayed properly and optimized.

@@MP-qn1jw lol dude youre the only one that was thinking this way , we all knew subs in cardiod dont make a line array
Yes very well projected setup. The inverted sub reduces low frequency energy on stage. Its a Cardiod setup. All pro engineers should agree with this.
NOT A LINE ARRAY
@@MP-qn1jwI see your comment on NOT A LINE ARRAY on other replies… explain this.
@@user-mu8ox5yl8y The poster asked about a line array, subs on the ground are not a line array. There is no line array shown in this video.

Oooooh so that is why they invert one!?
Phase cancel some bass on the stage?
NOT A LINE ARRAY
It’s a cardio at Sub arrangement to project as much low end out front as possible with his little low end on stage as possible
You are perfectly correct Jonathan, and it’s very efficient might I add😊
Yeah eliminates that low end "drone" from on stage.. sucks even more if the monitors aren't happening for ya lol
NOT A LINE ARRAY
Great setup. But i Like to setup gradiend cardioid or end fired.

Yes. Cancellation at the stage and all te power to the crowd
Is the phase of the bin facing the stage, middle one, inverted?if so then yes this is the best way to setup.
The middle one is phase inverted and it’s delayed to account for the speed of sound
In this particular setup, the rear-facing sub is delayed and polarity reversed. Yes! Cardioid
But for cardioid setup the ratio is 2:1 . 2 coupled front and 1 faced behind. But the video above may cause a phase cancellation
isn't that what it is shown?

@@ricardo_gonzf Ok Mr. Engineer. But if the subs are on there is no way you can cancel bass if subs are facing musicians direction.
