We actually went to a DG that the refrigeration system just broke and the truck came in while we were there and said he had to leave everything. They unloaded and told us to get what we wanted. We got cases of butter, sour cream, cottage cheese, cream cheese , yogurt, eggs coffee creamer, cheese and all the things. We shared it all out but it was a true blessing. I often find food at our Aldi and sometimes at Dollar General. Unfortunately, our Dollar General Market has their dumpster locked. I just scored 40 bagels at our Penera. It helps feed our family of 7.
It is amazing how much food people throw away! So much of it could be used for families like yours. I am going to be checking dumpsters a little closer now. I just wish I lived closer to some of the bigger stores.

It's ok, I was able to donate the toys to some local families that hadn't received any help for Christmas as well as share some of the food with them.. It's really sad to see what gets tossed. I was happy to be able to rescue it and save it from the landfill.

Thank you, the juice was amazing and I did just that, I put the capri sun back for school lunches and I even froze some of the juice. On Christmas we served lots of juice to the kids and adults... everyone went home with their own container of juice. It was so nice to be able to share with others and to donate the toys to those that were still in need.

Please be careful they might destroy it they find out you are a dumpster diver. Also penny items are suppose to be pulled from the sales floor. If u find them though before they pull them they are suppose to sell them to you.. please watch penny item videos. There is a lot that goes into it. I Penny shop all the time. I will make sure I am extra careful. Thanks for the heads up. I used to be a manager for dollar general years ago and with the penny items they were always sent back for a liquidator to pick up. I am so happy that I was able to save these from the trash and now children will be enjoying them.
@MamaToAll I totally agree about saving them. I was told a manager in my town that they choose to throw them away now cause they get back for them that way. I have found so much I was able to donate to a local shelter in need this Christmas

Just make sure nothing is recalled That's my big thing... For me it's been lifetime of learning the ins and outs of dumpster diving and junking and salvaging... I literally ate better out of the dumpsters when I could dumpster dive then I ever did when I was working and could actually afford food no help no food stamps no nothing.,.. I couldn't afford it when I was working you know how much money I have saved dumpster diving over the years... Just use common sense when you're dumpster diving If someone says hey you know if you get caught just say okay I'm sorry and go on Don't argue don't do nothing like that because if you when people argue with you know the store employees it just makes dumpster divers look bad and we don't want that just literally people are actually feeding themselves out of the dumpsters... Don't be ashamed of it ain't nothing wrong with it...

Our Dollar General donates to the Mission we volunteer at. They are part of the Feed America plan.

Check the toys for recalls before giving away.
Recall toys are not supposed to just be thrown in the dumpster where anybody can access them, so let's hope they are not recalled.

These stores know what they are doing. Not loosing any money throwing it out. Have insurance to be reimbursed.

I didn't know that Dollar general have pork chops or other meats?
There are a handful of dollar generals that have an entire grocery section. We have about 7 that have gas stations and grocery inside.
Aldi trashes their food and product as well.
That is what the insurance companies want them to do.
My closest Aldi is 30 to 45 minutes away, If it was close enough I would check it daily.
They get it back through their insurance. Claim it as a lost. You are old enough to know that.
