The original trilogy of gears of war had some of the hardest hitting scenes in any game that I’ve ever played, so glad I grew up when I did playing these timeless gems.
Well 4 is the beginning of a new threat, 5 is the swarm afferming themselves as capable and strong, and the beginning of the end, after e day, I think 6 will be much darker and grim with a bloody war to stop the swarm once and for all
Dom was the reason I only played as player 2. I resonated with him so much since we’re both Hispanic or I’d like to think on Sera he was. Tried to emulate him in every way. The good guy with a conscience who kept his boys in check and things light. His death hit me hard. He lost his whole family and I lost 2 brothers and dealt with cancer. But we both kept it moving and tried our best. Probably the only time I really cried for a fictional character ever.
In Helldivers 2, there’s a helmet that I use that always reminds me of Carmine. But damn I remember me and my homie who I always looked at as my Dom, played up until Gears 3. But that part where Dom has to put Maria out of her misery, it was heavy.
I understand that most people cried during doms death but imo the best death scene was maria. Seeing her 1st happy and healthy from doms perspective to then seeing what she really looks like is such a great way to paint the creators image of what the horrors of war are. Doms death felt kinda rushed in a sense where they could have done something better than him just blowing up. Im not saying that doms death was bad but compared to marias and tais this death is far from a great death scene imo. Great video abs you still keep the gears scene alive.
Its always a tragedy losing a brother in arms. The carmines are our fallen angels and cole remembering the old days makes you think, who were they all before the war. They weren't all soldiers in the pendulum wars and cole shows us what we might all become in these situations. We fight for our survival whilst losing a part of ourselves. Losing dom was a blade to us all and i even cried a little which i normally dont do. The worst part is seeing bird and cole hearing it and didnt even get to say goodbye. But his sacrifice like many other gears gave humanity a second chance. The gears tory should have ended here and the rest of the games should have been the pendulum wars. A way of honouring the fallen. But the gears trilogy are my favourute and the ofhers i can care less for, theyre okay but for a story these three are my games.
Is it necessary to tell the world that?? You want us all to say what he did? Maybe that will help you. He's a very nice guy I'm just honest. What you being sick has to do with the video I have no idea
Mad World playing as Dom sacrifices himself is so impactful. The lyric “The dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had.” encapsulates exactly where Dom is mentally at that point. His reason to live died with Maria and he longed to be reunited with her in death. The only thing keeping him going was his devotion to his brother Marcus. When Marcus was threatened and Dom saw a way to save him the choice was already made.
I’ve been with my girlfriend for about 6 years now, and when I met her, she was not into gaming, but eventually got use to watching me play. I went through Gears 1-3 and Dom’s death got to her and made her cry. I wish I can experience all three for the first time again. RIP Dom.
When I first experienced Maria's death, I was 13 years old. It's crazy how my feelings towards that cutscene have changed. I'm 28 now and married, and I actually think it's more sad than Dom's death. What a dark moment from one of the darkest games out there.
the announcement of e-day has reignited my love for this series and god, i swear maria and dom's deaths hit so much harder than they did a decade ago. wow... the emotional complexities of these characters diving deeper than heehoo fun shooty game is just. wow. excited to see how they paint him and dom at the start of this, seeing how scared baby marcus looked in that trailer. dom's death makes me wonder, when he put his tags on maria's grave, did he "know" the end was near for him? god. sad and miserable series, fun gameplay. 10/10.
I love Marcus and Dom's brotherhood so much. The only thing keeping Dom going after Maria was looking out for his bro. Marcus leaned on Dom so much that he probably didnt realize how much Dom leaned on him as well. Brothers to the end.
Music has hurt me over the years, but no song is burned into my brain like Gary Jule's Mad World. That tune, even the slightest bit has me scarred and makes every cry everytime, even if it isn't Gears of War related. That song and the memories the game left me with are forever intertwined with each other and I appreciate that.
I just watched this video, and I havent relived Dom's death since I last played the game, which might be around 12 years ago, and Im 24 rn, and I cried my eyes tf out. Fh, what a cruel game series jajajaja
Dom finding his wife and Dom dying were the two times I had to stop playing just to take a step back and cry while playing games, brutal stuff, great storytelling
Them playing the instrumental to mad world when dom dies fucking gets me every time. I remember first seeing the very first trailer of gears of war and loving that song. Playing the games and going through it with dom. Now he dies, I hear the song again and it’s heart breaking
Not doing an outro was nasty. Now I'm letting youtube autoplay try and roll me into the next video all sappy. Thanks for putting this together. We may not have another gaming era like the last 2000s and early 2010s, but we can still keep these moments.
Even knowing how it all ended, having a little time to forget rewatching brings shivers down the spine for how amazing the storytelling in this game was.
I always felt that Cole was loosely based on Patrick Tillman, whom was in the NFL (cardinals) but left to enlist in the army following the 9/11 attacks. The official ‘cause of death’ was friendly fire in 2004 and the first gears game came out in 2006.
I was playing Dom when this happened, none of us expected. My buddy was sobbing and I was there ranting and cheering like a madman because "I" was being the biggest badass of the whole team.
I always play Marcus while my brother who passed away, always plays Dom sad thing about this story is that my brother never was able to play Gears of War 3, just like Dom he committed and wanted to see his family again I miss my brother, my sister (brother’s wife) and my nephew, when I saw Dom die I felt like I lost another one of brothers
Once again, it's a shame the other games in the series couldn't make the cut, and once again I agree with your choices here Abz. Could this also get an honorable mentions video?
marias death man, that is tough. he spent so long trying to find her not knowing he'd find her like that, damn man everything down to the music, the communication between dom and marcus, the build up and the emotion.

Dom's sacrifice was burnt into my memory and is brought up whenever mad world is played. But it just shows how good gears of war was at getting us invested in the games. That the death of a character can hit so damn hard
1:00 That’s a great call out about Carmines death. In the first game it seems like just a cut scene to articulate the stakes and what the enemy is willing to do. The way they leverage the familiar relationships really hits home the human cost of war.
While Doms death shook me emotionally. Tais death rattled me to my core because with Gears 2 being my first gears game, it really opened my eyes to the horrors of war, more specifically what the locust do to their prisoners. Dom was like a brother to Marcus and his reaction to “your choice” in Gears 5 hits hard as well, no matter who you choose to save Marcus is hit hard by the loss of another Gear in the war.
Gears 5 sucked tho his son wasn’t even part of the squad for half the game because of the “me too” movement.
@@dazzaMusic Well I never said Gears 5 was any good
@@hakkentosh that’s why I wasn’t sad about JD because the game was so
Mediocre and the game was all about Kate it literally ruined the franchise that’s why there’s no sign of a sixth game.
@@dazzaMusic gears doesn’t only need to be through Marcus or jds eyes Kate was a shallow character if anything we should fight for remasters of 2 and 3
Wth man - I thought I got over it back when I first saw this YEARS ago, but Dom's death is STILL bringing tears to my eyes to this day
Dom saying to Maria that Marcus needs him just breaks my heart, a true friend to the end
its the "I don't know what to do man." That really kills.
If you're not crying, you don't have a heart 😢
Dom is such a tragic character. He lost everything and then he lost himself. He saved his friends.
Maria’s death was one of the saddest moments in video game history.
Back in the day , when I saw Dom at the grave sight ….i knew it was over , but I still wasn’t ready for what came next …R.I.P Dom
Xbox really had 10 year old me experiencing some of the most emotionally and psychologically traumatizing experiences a human could go through
The fact that I was 4 to 6 and still remember each one of these is proof that your right and that games were in a whole other league back then
The original trilogy of gears of war had some of the hardest hitting scenes in any game that I’ve ever played, so glad I grew up when I did playing these timeless gems.
I never recovered from losing Dom. I wish I could unsee him finding Maria like that.
I recently lost my best friend in a car accident. We were each other's Dom. We used to play for days, we used to play every day.
I can't keep playing.
Truly sorry for your brother
The events of gears 1-3 make 4 and 5 look like a kids recess.
Gears 1-3 are genuinely epic gaming!
Well 4 is the beginning of a new threat, 5 is the swarm afferming themselves as capable and strong, and the beginning of the end, after e day, I think 6 will be much darker and grim with a bloody war to stop the swarm once and for all
Cole reliving his glory days was more of an epic salute than a sad scene. Like he was immortalized
Always looking forward to your next upload. Another great one. Thanks man!
Now that I think about it. C carmines "that's for Anthony and Benjamin" line shouldve been put at the end when he's shooting at myrah
That would’ve been much better I agree!
One that got me really bad was in Gears 5 where if you choose to not save Marcus’ kid, you get to watch him break again.
Dels death was also hearbroken, he was the best friend to JD and to anyone truly a loyal friend and a pure heart
Just look at the clips from Gears 3, it’s hard to imagine that is on the same console as Gears 1, it still looks so good!
I’ve gotten sick for the passed few days and I’m starting to get better but it still hurts sadly. but keep up the good work kingabz!
get well soon bro, fight through the pain!!
Is it necessary to tell the world that?? You want us all to say what he did? Maybe that will help you. He's a very nice guy I'm just honest. What you being sick has to do with the video I have no idea
@@dominicp9296is it necessary to be a asshole? How do you know it’s not something serious
This guy is always on it! I love your "Top #'s" always agree and enjoy watching them.
Great vid. Makes me want to replay them all over again.
I bloody cried after all these years
Mad World playing as Dom sacrifices himself is so impactful.
This still pulls strings every time I watch it.
Dang a lot of new vids lately
never nap time baby!
@@KingAbzTVI mean I not complaining
I love Marcus and Dom's brotherhood so much.
The only thing keeping Dom going after Maria was looking out for his bro. Marcus leaned on Dom so much that he probably didnt realize how much Dom leaned on him as well. Brothers to the end.
Man for an action shooter series they sure do know when to pull at the heartstrings 😢
U just made me want to replay Gears.
The original Gears Trilogy is why videogames are life. Thank you Cliffy B and all involved for the escape.
I am a grown ass man and dons death still gets me crying to this day
I just watched this video, and I havent relived Dom's death since I last played the game, which might be around 12 years ago, and Im 24 rn, and I cried my eyes tf out. Fh, what a cruel game series jajajaja
Dom finding his wife and Dom dying were the two times I had to stop playing just to take a step back and cry while playing games, brutal stuff, great storytelling
Man you made me cry again just like in 2011,I remember it like it was yesterday... brothers to the end 😢😭
Them playing the instrumental to mad world when dom dies fucking gets me every time. I remember first seeing the very first trailer of gears of war and loving that song. Playing the games and going through it with dom. Now he dies, I hear the song again and it’s heart breaking
“SOMEBODYS GONNA FUCKING PAY!”
What a strange take lmao
the death of misfortune and b. carmani made me cry a lot 😔😔😔😔
I hope c.carmani is well in the next games.
I was playing Dom when this happened, none of us expected. My buddy was sobbing and I was there ranting and cheering like a madman because "I" was being the biggest badass of the whole team.
I lost count how many times I cried on this saga.
These games were some of the best bro coop games ever. I'd play them all again but I don't know if I could go down that emotional roller coster again
For me, Maria's death was sadder than Dom's because while his was heartbreaking, he was finally reuniting with her
Once again, it's a shame the other games in the series couldn't make the cut, and once again I agree with your choices here Abz. Could this also get an honorable mentions video?
marias death man, that is tough. he spent so long trying to find her not knowing he'd find her like that, damn man everything down to the music, the communication between dom and marcus, the build up and the emotion.
Grew up on Xbox gears was my first 360 game. Nothing but respect for the O.g trilogy . Fkn hope it gets a remaster for ps one day so I can replay it with my boy!
*Familial relationships
While Doms death shook me emotionally. Tais death rattled me to my core because with Gears 2 being my first gears game, it really opened my eyes to the horrors of war, more specifically what the locust do to their prisoners. Seeing this unstoppable juggernaut of man become a broken shell and the only way he could end his suffering was cocking that gnasher still shakes me to this day.
I play co-op with my brother, we used to play for fun...then when we came to Maria Santiago's death...that hit us hard....we both turned our mics off...had to take a 15 minute break...then when we came back online i remember us both saying 'they are going to pay for this!' things got real personal real fast after that...the story writing in Gears was top notch...never been surpassed.
Maria’s death was for sure sad but I always found it funny in a messed up way that he had to use the Boltok a literal hand cannon to do it😅
Not only do you have to mercy kill your wife, you literally explode her head in probably the most messiest way possible. Talk about traumatic 😭
Thank you for ALL the GoW videos you've done/are doing. This has been my fav franchise since I was 12-13..im 31 now..ONLY reason why I have an Xbox straight-up! Thank you for keeping this shit relevant my boy!
**also Dels/JDs death made me audibly gasp an my gf at the time was like what's wrong?! Hahaha good times I love this 🎮
My pleasure sir, thank you for watching and for your support! 🫡
I moved from ps3 to 360 bc of the gears series lol
The 1st 3 games need a reboot like all the other classics we all love that are getting them
They rebooted 1
@@darksavage5481which?
it was so satisfying when Marcus stabs queen Myrah with doms knife
Anyone else notice that as the list went on, there was a watery effect on the screen that got stronger with each entry?
Seeing dom death still hits me ik it’s just video game but stills make me cry to this day 💔🥺
Atleast Dom and his family are back together 🥲
I remember gears was a decent part of my childhood now I can't call myself a true fan because I've only ever played 3 but that game made me feel happy and sad I remember making friends playing the horde/ beast mode and trying to 100% the game
19:23 - 19:49 This part was created a Deleted Scene that comes with the Dark Conners DLC, where it shows the option of stealth or guns blazin, and also an old friend from the previous game. The default option ends up being guns blazin as shown in the campaign: 19:50 - 19:58
I'm 22 years old and it still hurts thinking about it RIP Dom
I played gears 2 when I was in 6th grade and the scene with tai scared the hell out of me
Dom is back!!! In E-Day
