Balls of Yarn with Watercolours

- This Yarn Ball tutorial is quite a random one as it was a request and I've never painted them before. I was interested in breaking the process down and at the same time, there's some coziness related to knitting and this subject in general so I decided to give this a go. Hope you guys enjoyed this one :D

Stop. You are freaking me out on realism and your first approach to painting these kind of items! What is is like being so talented? I’ll never know lol
haha xD I think the edits helped with making the process cleaner and simpler, but behind the camera I was also scared of making a mistake on film 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@Nianiani you always seem so sure of yourself and relaxed Well it turned out beautifully you should have a drawing from your comments to win one of your artwork
As a person who knits and crochets, this is a perfect piece to make!
Oh that's awesome! Didn't realise the many knitters in this community xD glad I made this one
What? Thank you for fulfilling my request. I'm over the moon 🌝. I knit and I'd like to sketch out things I want to knit but I don't know how to render knit texture. I know that producing videos of this quality takes so so much time, so I've thought a lot about whom to lodge my request to. And I was under the impression that many of your viewers are crafters or friends with crafters and probably yearning for the same tutorial topic as I. So there I went. 🫡. Again, you have my gratitude.
Glad you're happy with this one! And yes, didn't realise that so many people would enjoy this subject! xD
When I saw the finished piece at the beginning, I thought: "How does she do that?" So much detail and texture in the yarn. Thanks for walking us through step by step - very impressive!
Such a pleasure :D
I appreciate that you always give us so much information about tools, paint colors and your music choice is never annoying, but so enjoyable.
What a wonderful surprise, to have just happened upon your site today!!! I have been following several other watercolor artists and working very hard towards learning the techniques and fine nuances of this fine format of art. After several decades of putting my paintbrushes away, raising my family and working on my career, retirement and a myriad of health problems left me with too much time and too little fun. In my younger days, I studied art and painted only in oils. Your tutorials (I have only been fortunate to have seen two, so far) are absolutely wonderful! And this particular one is so, so gosh darn timely! Both my daughter and I love to knit. As a matter of fact, we just spent yesterday afternoon at our local Hobby Lobby shopping for both yarn (for her) and painting supplies (for me). I have been wanting to paint something for her as a special gift and I can't think of anything better than this lovely picture. It is even done in her favorite colors!! (I found you when I was looking for Christmas card tutorials and can't wait to paint the string of lights...it is amazing!). You are such an inspirational teacher and an exquisite artist!
Thank you so much for sharing that story! I'm so happy that this turned out to be a subject that suits your current situation :D I'm sure your daughter would very much appreciate it ❤️
Welcome Back. Ah I love the colors look so smooth and lovely give a soft touch.
Thank You for your beautiful video🌷❤️
Thank you! :D:D
You covered two of my favorite hobbies in one video -- painting and knitting. I always find your videos fascinating. Thank you.
What a lovely idea! A painting like this would make a great gift for someone who loves to knit 😊
This painting kinda reminded me that winter's here..
Love it 💗💗💗
Yesss!
Wonderful watercolor painting. I love the haphazard way you painted the yarn. It reminds me of when a kitty plays with the yarn and the yarn has to be rewound. Bravo. 🧶🧵
Yess! That's what I was trying to recreate :p
This is wonderful. I am a knitter, dyer, and spinner so this really appeals to me. Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial!
This work reminds me my mum. She used to knit my sweaters when I was little. I love the warmth of the colours. It is getting cold in Korea now, so I like anything that gives me warm feeling. Thank you for the lovely drawing. ❤
Aw that's so sweet!
The result is very impressive. Great texture! Thanks for showing the beginning drawing to the end.
Just looking at this gives such a cozy feeling😌 ...Great work Nia, really impressed by the way you do textures, it's all about the creating the little illusion and then the eye adjusts to it.The one thing which I've learnt the most from you is how not not make the painting look flat.
You're a great teacher ,Nia. Thank you☺️
Such a pleasure!
The different yarn weights are perfect. I want to pick up my needles and knit. The colors would make a great project. Maybe a shawl with the different weights and colors. Your painting is beautiful!
Yay!! Thank you!
I saw a picture of a painted ball of yarn on pinterest and wanted to paint my own but had no idea how to go about it... i crochet so i really want to paint it and this will really help me in my approach... Thank you❤️
So glad!!
I am so impressed by your artistic knowledge and explaining as you go along. If I didn't see it for myself, I would have thought it was magic. It would take me days to do what you are doing and it wouldn't look so beautiful. Thank you!
Aw thank you so much! Hope the tutorial helped to break down the steps for your painting :)
I looked at this and thought NO WAY, but afterwatching it through and getting your outline, I am confident about giving it a try! Warm, cozy and wonderful for a cozy fall day!!
That's awesome! I'm glad the tutorial gave you confidence! Enjoy!
Enjoyed the different ways you painted these. All yarn is not created equal, so each ball can be unique. Lovely as always. Thank you. 🧶
Thank youuu! Yea I was thinking that at the beginning but I felt like the brown one almost lost its roundness since I didn't place the coils correctly in some areas xD
Absolutely brilliant. The way you must have deconstructed it in your mind to know where you had to go with the bottom layers and get to the finished product is a gift of vision. I love the way you explain things in all your videos.
Thank you so much! ^_^
Great gift for my MIL or anyone who knits or crochets. I paint and I knit - so - perhaps I'll do this one for me!
Pleasure!
One of my favorites. I am a knitter, I have to try this one.
This is gorgeous!! I love knitting, this is perfect for me.
Thats awesome!
Hi Nianiani, This is nice one. gr8
As a yarn crafter, I think you did an amazing job! Yarn that is wound into balls is very random, and you captured that! I love this so very much!
Thank you so much!
So cozzzzzy yarns and fabric are good for this sweater weather
Haha thanks! I don't knit but thought the subject would work in this season
Your painting tutorials are my absolute favorite. Very well paced and instructed. Makes a detailed painting feel very achievable for a beginner like me!
You can do it!
Wonderful ❤️ Nianiani !! What a perfectionist to show the threads of knitting wool ball. So much of patience 💕 dear. God bless you 🙂
Haha thank you! I love making little details :p
Another great tutorial. Thank you. I really enjoy your explanations why you decide to do certain things and how you feel about them. That is very helpful to understand the process and learn from how you do things. I really like the composition and how you did the yarn. They look amazing. Great job!
Thank you so much! Happy the process is understandable to follow :))
Oh this is very helpful. I was finding a subject to paint in the canvas for my wall in my crochet room.
Thank you, I had a go at this and am so grateful for your tuition, I attempted this a birthday card for my daughter who loves to knit and crochet.
Thats so sweet of you!!!
Whoa…I’m certain I don’t have the patience for this, I admire your tenacity! I’m always so fascinated by your colour choices, could I request a complete walk through of your colours, why you have them, your top 20 faves (and for what reason), your favourite mixes, popular colours that you DON’T have on your palette and why, how you learned the most of colours etc. I think your paintings have such a cohesion to them and your colour and value choices are the reason! 🙏🙏🇨🇦
Haha wow that's such a long list of questions haha I've actually recently made a small qna on colours that I'm going to schedule sometime this month.. I'm not sure if it's going to answer all your questions.. but hopefully some 😅
¡😍🤗Nunca he visto unos ovillos tan bien obillados! 😄✨Precioooooso! Me ha traído nostalgía. De cuando mi abuela liaba la lana para hacer colchas. 😪😇😘😘😘
Aww that sounds so comforting! Glad this painting could bring back memories :))
Wow, I like this a lot. I always wondered how people paint or draw yarn. Well, just saw you do it and it looks amazing👍
Thank you so much for another great tutorial💐
Awesome Nia, Thank you for teaching something I never would have thought to ask you for.❤
I didn't know either haha
Thank you very much for this lovely tutorial. It was a very enjoyable process to follow along. And I love the color combination you used on this one a lot! ❤
Wow! I love the detail in this one! Beautifully done!
Fascinating to watch you paint this. Bravo!
❤
This is beautiful, i’m working on a crochet piece for my illustration class and this was super helpful.
Soooooo cozy feeling. Perfect for this time of year. 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
Thank youu! ^_^
This is so perfect for me, thank you! I gave up knitting 6 years ago due to tendonitis, and picked up watercolor as my new hobby instead. I still miss playing with yarn so much, though.
Oh I'm sorry to hear that.. hope watercolor is something you can enjoy without the pain. I used to bake, and realised that my hand can't handle it. I'd have such bad flare ups if I get huge orders, so I had to give it up... but then I found this channel :D
Oh I might try painting this! At first, it seems very daunting to paint balls of yarn. 🙈But I feel more confident now after seeing your tutorial. Btw, I love listening to your voice and the bg music. It's so calming 💜
Thank you so much! So glad this could give you more confidence to tackle the subject! All the best for your paintings :D
Está divino! I Will try todo It for my sister. She loves knitting. Thank you for sharing.
This is perfect for the upcoming winters 😊 very lovely and realistic as usual
Thank you! 😊
great job with getting the texture of the yarn down, looks great 😀
Thank you! 😊
You are amazing, I love watching you paint! This was was an interesting process to watch. Thank you.....
Welcome!
As always, lovely! Love to watch you paint!
Thank you so much 😀
Love , love, love, this one!
For a first go trying to paint yarn, I think you did fantastic! Both techniques you tried worked very well. It turned out great and I think it’s adorable. Your colors make it feel so cozy. ❤
Thank you so much!
You are so talented, I love this. In the thumbnail, it looks real and 3D. I always love your work
Thank you so much!
@@Nianiani you are welcome! I have actually painted things with your tutorials and it's always really nice
This is wonderful. Thank you for sharing your process with us.
What a wonderful idea and a beautiful paint! I love it ❤
Thank you.
Thank you so much!
I’m a knitter love this composition ⭐️🌟🍒
This was deceptively hard! Lol. My tip is to watch the whole thing first then paint. My first yarn ball is stiff and dumb and unfortunately it’s the biggest ball. My other two look pretty good. I’ll probably go over the yarn balls with gouache to fix the stiffness and lame lines that make no sense. But thanks Nia, your turned out beautifully.
Haha xD I tend to make those sort of mistakes first if I jump into something new straight away. Great that you got used to the technique in the end :D
Absolutely fantastic.
Love this ! Extremely well done.
Always looking forward to your tutorials ❤️❤️
This is very nice! I’m going to try something like this too, maybe add some sepia linework to it and maybe even some knitting mice.
Cute idea!
Love love love your beautiful painting style, girly!
Thanks!
What a great painting of yarn 🥰! I will give that a try Nia ☺
Have fun!
@@Nianiani Thank you 🤗

Wow! I was wondering how you were going to tackle that! Not an easy subject but you nailed it! ❤
Thank you so much! I was confused at the beginning too haha

Thankss! I don't knit either but it was a subject that I thought would be interesting to tackle xD
don't you dare to use a real photo of yarn to confuse me 😱😱😱😱😱
🤣😅
I'm in love with this unusual painting..❤🤎🧡
I tried it straight after watching your vedio. I'm very happy the final result, would love to share with you. Do you have your Instagram page?. 🤩
