In response to "He's been training for this!?" in regards to Zuko failing so hard at fighting Aang, I think the best explanation is that basically nobody alive today has ever encountered an airbender, let along fought one. Zuko can train all day to counter the combat techniques that still exist in his day, but Aang's style of fighting is 100 years old and entirely alien to what Zuko's used to. He wasn't expecting an opponent so focused on evasive maneuvering and trickery, basically, so the training he's done doesn't apply.
Not only that, but he was expecting to encounter a person that was incredibly old (he pulled Gran-gran as an example). Not an incredibly nimble and agile kid.
@@krazytreRTMhe’s kinda lucky that wasn’t the case.. could you imagine? Encountering an avatar that’s been training for the last 100 years? Bro would’ve ended the fire nation first episode 💀
Aang literaly said it, if they listened before commenting "So I guess you never fought an airbender before", implying he immediately understood he has the upper hand. Plus they are on a ship, on the water. Not the best environment for a firebender. Also it's an avatar he has to fight, not a regular airbender. Regarding of the whole situation ( especially as his soldiers aren't all firebenders), Zuko wasn't bad at all, after all he managed to capture the avatar. For few hours, but still.
More importantly, Aang is a airbending master and according to Uncle Iroh in the previous episode, Zuko hasn't even mastered his basics because he's too impatient to train properly; he basically demanded Iroh teach him "the advanced set" when Iroh said he wasn't ready.
I still love the lines "You're just a kid!" and Aang counters with "Well, you're just a teenager!" It really speaks to how they're both just involved in this as children and partaking in war crimes/genocide based on pressure from the adults. This is truly a great series and it's acclaimed for a reason I'm excited for y'all to experience the journey!
And in the first episode when Katara says “I haven’t done this since I was a kid” and Aang says “You still are a kid”. It’s great character writing because it indicates just how much Aang validates Katara, who is not used to such empathy.
It's one of my favorite close quartered fights and I honestly wish we saw more of it, because it showcases how dangerous Airbending can be in tight spaces.
Man, even though Sokka was absolutely eating sh*t there, he was very fearless and dedicated lol. I don't know why this episode is so hilarious to me. This tiny little village and Sokka is the only one to defend it (in terms of a formal army). Then Zuko looking for an elderly avatar only to be greeted by Aang who is the most 10 year old 10 year old to have ever 10 year old'd. Admittedly though the water tribe face paint does look really cool. Too bad it immediately came off lmao
One thing that's wild about these first two.episodes is that you have to wonder, where are all the men of this tribe? There's Sokka and a bunch of little kids and women. That's how intense this war is. All of the men are gone. That's why Sokka is so intense because he is "responsible " for protecting the whole village.
Seeing new avatar fans is fascinating. Like seeing people who've never seen harry potter or LOTR, u just expect everyone to know about these things haha. But u guys are gonna love this journey!
After a century without airbenders, most people aren’t prepared to battle one - no one has had any experience against them, and even when the Air Nomads were alive, their culture was one of peace. A lot of the airbender skillset was based in defensive or meditative maneuvers (or plain fun). Teamed with Aang’s youth, playfulness and humour, many people struggle to understand that mindset. For example, Zuko is very well-trained for battle but he’s never fought an airbender, plus Aang isn’t interested in directly fighting, so a lot of Zuko’s approach doesn’t apply well yet. Aang also isn’t fighting to necessarily win or cause pain, which is alien to many people after a century of the world being ruled in a brutal military fashion. Each time a character fights Aang after a first encounter, it's interesting to see what they have learned from their previous experience.
This took me back to 2009 to when I first watched the episode. I remember I was so excited for what story was being told but the unknown of the beauty of this masterpiece of a show.
Zuko vs Aang in his bedroom is the best, perfectly executed example of the martial art that Airbending is based on: baguazhang or circle walking. What the user does is be very light on their feet, and get behind the person's back so they can't land a hit. I'm really tired of people saying, "Aang doesn't fight," as a way to make fun of his pacifistic ways. But this kid *squares.* *UP* when he needs to. He prefers trying to talk things down, but when that isn't an option, he WILL defend himself. He just has a no kill rule.
Avatar is a traditionally drawn 2-D cartoon, but it does use some computer graphic elements. In fact, Zuko's ship is often done with computer graphics.
This is an incredible journey. It’s nice to see more and more people started it. The spin off is amazing. The life movie they made it sucks so now the new live action series looks a lot better The movie may suck but it’s a must watch so you can see why they work so hard on the new series coming out
It feels like now we got a new crew formed now excited to see how it all develops also happy new year guys thanks for all the work you do here st to another year of growth for you guys and the channel
You know what’s always interesting to me - when Sokka attacks Zuko, Zuko could have killed him 🤷♀ Each time Sokka attacks, Sokka is being incredibly brave (and stupid but y’know, he’s spent his whole life being told he needs to protect his tribe). Each time Zuko doesn’t maim or seriously injure him, he shows incredible restraint for a prince raised in the Fire Nation.
The water vortex is a high level waterbending move. Only a true master can do it. Aang is not a master yet, but he can do the water vortex because he is in the Avatar State.
When a scene is filmed at sunset or sunrise, it's referred to as the "golden hour". It has to do with the color of the sky. In animation, scenes at sunset are referred to as the "golden drawing". No, no not really, but the sentiment is the same.
The show is very much directed more towards kids for the first couple episodes, even if they're still enjoyable to most people. Hitting ep 7 is where it really picks up imo, and it literally doesn't stop getting better until the final episode of the series.
1:51 a kids show!?? Oh boy are you in for a ride. This show is known for going to deep topics, yes not too deep, but just wait there are scenes, topics, and character plot lines that prove this is not just a show for kids.
You guys should do 2 part episodes in one sitting ep 1 and 2 were an hour long pilot! The finale of the season is a 2 parter there is another 2 parter in the middle about the spirit world and a treacherous journey these are all deigned to be watched as one episode even though Netflix doesn’t reflect this!
anyone, I've got a question. Did ATLA ever touched the topic about Aang being an airbending master? A few weeks ago, I watched another group of youtubers react to ATLA and they expected the airbenders to have the tattoo that Aang has, not knowing that only those who are deemed master can have it.
OMG I CANT BELIEVE U GUYS ARE REACTING TO AVATAR oh the journey that awaits for you…first episodes are kinda silly and goofy until the waterbending master epside where the series goes from good to GREAT

Aang and Zuko's fight here was so well choreographed!
It's one of my favorite close quartered fights and I honestly wish we saw more of it, because it showcases how dangerous Airbending can be in tight spaces.
Fun fact: the first and second episodes were originally written as a one-hour event.

That'd the most harrowing part about this scene with sokka , he was willing to kill and die for his village....at like 15

there’s no “wondering” where they are, it’s explicitly stated that they left to go aid in the war. We don’t have to wonder at all.
Oh Sokka is a bender alright just not an elemental bender 😂
All hail the back bender😂
Cant wait for you guys to watch the whole show, Avatar is literally THE show
The series just gets better and better from here! Can’t wait for the rest of the show 😊

please do more than 1 ep at a time… they’re so short it feels weird to only do one for every video
agreed

Yes. He certainly has never killed . . .
Can we possibly get multiple episodes per vid? Feel like it works better for this show
I’m so glad you guys are releasing multiple ATLA videos per week! This show is peak binging ❤
Thanks for including Appa as one of the team members, bc he’s a very important one.

It's both humorous and shows his greater character

Don't spoil, theyll find out themselves
cant wait to see more of this!!
Keep in mind at this point of time Aang is a air-bending master whereas Zuko is still a Fire-bending student.
This episode really highlights Sokka's bravery!
I love how Bryce was so excited during the Aang Zuko fight, and all three of them getting into this world
would love to see you guys react to more British shows!
The air scooter can travel at speeds of over 30 miles per hour

The dark clouds represent Aang's inner turmoil. The shining light represents hope.
I love love love this show! Please do more than one episode at a time 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽😩😩😩😩🩷🩷🩷🩷
Favorite thing about the episode: everything starts because of a Warrior who doesn’t fight and a Bender who doesn’t bend ❤

Aang was a master airbender. Zuko was good, but he wasn't a master in firebending (yet).

No. That gets covered in Korra indirectly.
this show is just sick like i have nothing else to say than that
Good reaction may you all should do 2/3 episodes in a reaction because they are not very long and it’s a lot to get through
Wait. I feel like I'm going insane. I could've sworn that you guys already watched Avatar the last Airbender before?
