- Day 2 of the 2024 Grossglockner High Alpine Road opening. Initially there was a safety lock from the official opening hours of 0630 hrs but by the time we got there in the car at around 1000 hrs it was open to 4 wheeled traffic on production of snow chains. We came prepared but many vehicles without them were turned away. It was also closed to bicycles and motorcycles. Bicycles can by-pass the toll booths as they don't have to pay and you can see by the video the outcome of that.

Sehr schönes Video. Ich habe gehört, dass man ein oder zwei Tage vor der offiziellen Öffnung der Glocknerstraße die Straße mit dem Fahrrad befahren darf. Das soll sogar eine Art Veranstaltung sein 🤔. Weißt du darüber zufällig etwas? LG Elkoeb on Tour
When the road first opens it is usual for it to be closed to motorcycles and cycles for the first few days and then when conditions dictate thereafter. On this day only 4 wheeled vehicles carrying snow chains were allowed. It was closed to two wheeled traffic but as you can see some cyclists took no notice.

Absolutely stunning scenes and the perfect music to go with the splendorous views from the Großglockner Hochalpenstraße. It's a shame about the cyclists. 😃❤👍

Why is it that the laws of the road do not seem to apply to cyclists.
i can see that the cyclist there are just as annoying than everywhere else.... Beautiful video.
Gotta laugh at all the tearjerking comments about the cyclists. Why ? Because you have to take an extra couple of seconds to pass them ? Or by their simple existence ?
In fairness the road was closed to cyclists, motorcyclists and cars who could not show they were carrying snow chains. Cyclists do not have to pass through the Toll Booths where they would have been turned back and those you see chose to ignore the closure.
