- I was shocked at what I found inside this old tackle box! This week on Retro Bassin', we crack open a special delivery from our Bassin' Buds up at Butler Outdoors Canada. This vintage Old Pal tackle box was packed with lures for bass including vintage lures such as a Rapala Minnow, a Flatfish, a Cotton Cordell Grappler Shad, a Fred Arbogast Jitterbug, Berkley Powerpait worms, an Old Milwaukee beer spoon, and an As Seen on TV gimmick lure, the Fan Fueler 200 MPH Crank Bait!
This episode was like diving into grandpa's old tacklebox, and its's amazing how many great lures have been discontinued. You don't need the latest and greatest lures to catch bass, and these old school baits would definitely do the trick today!

Im glad you like the kit!! The big jerk bait I have no idea who the make is but the rattle trap with the extra rattle traps is a cabelas brand gimik lure lol I just got off the water as bass opener was today here and them little white ribbon tail grubs were lethal once again! I also tried one of those dancein tubes myself 2 lol have fun on your vacation brother!!!
That jerk bait kind of looks like a devil's horse without props.

The Nascar Fan Fueler was made by Mann’s Bait Company. There were 4 or 5. Two Dale Earnhardt cars, Rusty Wallace and Hank Parker JR who raced for a couple years in Nascar. During testing of the bait to see how it ran it did catch fish. I’d have to check my Mann’s collection to see if other cars besides what’s mentioned.
I am going to have to try it for sure!
That rattle trap with the blades (or whatever they are) is slick-never seen any of those. Shout out to @Butler Outdoors for sending that OG Gold! Congrats to David Donavan.

Sad to say, I have the exact old pal box, and most of the lures, guess I'm getting old. I look forward to the lure package, the last thing I won was an aluminum fly box in 1974 so thank you very much.

That Chrome Ratl-Trap looking thing was awesome. I have never seen anything like that and honestly it's like an A-Rig concept. I bet it catches fish. Super Cool.

Another great episode. Dig the Miami Vice look. But what's the deal, we didn't get to see those corduroy shorts! You've clearly got the best gig on RUclips, getting fun packages from folks and sharing the discoveries with subscribers. I think the yellow Flatfish lure may be a Canadian Wiggler, but not sure.

That was a great box of goodies for sure. I'm gonna have to be on the lookout for that old Cotton Cordell crank with the little minnows on it as well as that NASCAR one. I just want to throw those and see what happens.
There are a few on the eBay for not too much…
The Rapala look a like with the blunt nose is a A.C. Shiner. Very popular in Florida in the 60's and early mid 70's for River Snook and bass.

I believe I have the minnow that goes in that box too. The red box minnow is a Finland made but it has these star shaped graphics on the foil. Like a simpler version of the Rapala minnow.

Let's make a deal ill trade you a Bill Dance Dances eel for the Excalibur lol .. was so excited to get an eel back in the day mid 1980s I think the thing hauled water for about 3 trips I removed the hook for another bait think my dog ate the eel anyway. I think I had that box when I was a kid, it would spill open the latch wasn't great. I thought the logo looked cool so I tried and tried to keep using it until I finally had enough 😆

If you remember the cheap " pocket chair " that was on TV about 10 years ago, Old pal made a better version in the 60's or 70's.
Not sure if anyone got the rattle trap with the smaller blades, but it was a Cabelas branded lipless lure from a few years ago. Not terribly old. I think I have three of them somewhere in my lure boxes.

That is the million dollar question! Actually, there’s a C.B. send off that goes something like “Keep the shiny side up and the greasy side down,” i.e., don’t flip your truck, good buddy. I always enjoyed the Jerry-Reed-good-time vibe of C.B. trucker jargon, so I lifted it and applied it to a bass boat!
