Great video! Currently using the Ulanzi Cooling Fan with my ZV-E1. In addition to videography, I'm using my ZV-E1 as my main webcam for Zoom calls. Without the fan at 720p 30fps and no SD card inserted, the camera's overheat warning comes on at around 45 min and will shut down at around 55min. With the Fan set at max (#2), I've had 2 hour Zoom calls at 1080p 30fps with the SD card inserted and the overheat warning never came on. The biggest drawback is that the small suction cups just won't keep the unit attached to the camera for more than 20 minutes. I basically use a hairband to keep it attached to the camera.
Amazing info! Thank you for this... I have to pin your comment because I didn't test it in this capacity, and I believe a lot of people are using the zve1 as you are, so I highly appreciate adding these details for others... And those results are super impressive! I have also seen people use rubber bands, which makes sense, so I'll probably do that too next time. Thanks again!

stumbled on this video and so glad I did!! overheating is talked about a lot, so I was a bit hesitant to pull the trigger on the Sony ZV-E1. The have released a new version that is $40 that no longer uses suction cups, and instead uses a spring mechanism to keep it securely in place. Haven't tested it yet as I just placed the order, hopefully this comes in handy when recording outside in the hot Florida sun!! Great video brother, cheers 🤘🏼
Thank you so much, and I'm happy you followed your gut and bought the zve1 anyway. It's a brilliant camera and gets more here than it deserves... That being said, Florida can cook any camera, so I think that's a smart purchase of getting the fan. And I just saw they put that update out removing the suction cups. Too many of us complained, but it's good to know that they listened to the customers. I'm thinking of picking up an extra one... Best of luck and update me on how it works for you! Thanks again!!
I agree! I can't quite figure out the logic, but I've heard others having similar results...in that the camera performed better after initially overheating. It's a strange one, but a problem you don't have with your FX30. The built in fan is the way to go!
Great video! I wrote to Ulanzi telling them that they have to improve the suction cups. Even with their sticky thing that goes on the back of the camera, the fan still falls off after just 20 minutes of use. Otherwise, the product is pretty good. It's really cheap so it's a no brainer, just have one especially if you're doing long takes and can check the camera every 15 minutes to ensure the fan doesn't fall. Not ideal but it's the best out there for now at this price point.
I really appreciate that...and thank you for writing them! I have seen some people use rubber bands to hold them in place which is actually pretty smart and easy to do, but would be nice if you didn't need that! Yet, I agree, for the price, it's still a no brainer! Thanks again!!

I got it for about £12 delivered on offer. I have never had the ZVE1 shut down but for that price I thought I would get it in reserve. Looks to work well.
The price, the formfactor, the specs, man this camera really ticks all the boxes for me. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is - the age old saying once again showing its value. I'll probably still pick one up if I find a good deal seeing how those aftermarket fans can at least make the camera useable in sub-optimal conditions. Good video!
You are definitely right on that... The true weaknesses, for me, the ergonomics (but easily fixed with the grip), the mediocre screen (not fixable), and the overheating (but thankfully that's a fairly easy alteration). The fan pulls its weight, but ideally it would be nice if we didn't need one. That being said, it's really hard to beat the image quality, the dynamic range, and the dynamic stabilization!
Appreciate that... Thank you! Now, if I could have had an eagle swooping in to the shot to pull out a glimmering eel from the lake, that'd be even better, but... (I'm seriously envious of all your wildlife shots and think anything without at least an elk in the frame is boring!)
Thanks for testing. While it's clear that it perhaps could work for some folks, it's also clear that to anyone using this, it will simply be unreliable and frustrating for 95% of users. Such a shame as otherwise the specs on the camera are amazing.
I definitely understand that frustration... I think Sony was aiming this camera to really be a travel/quick content camera as opposed to a main studio camera. That all being said, I've only had it overheat once (outside of this test) but I do know people who still use it for talking heads, and do find it overheats. Yet, I know this fan helps, but probably getting the Tilta fan system which is five times the price but adds as many times the functionality, so that's an option as well. I do think if you were looking for an amazing camera with a built in fan, I'd recommend the fx30, which is $300 cheaper, and a workhorse... Also, worth considering.
Nice video the issue is that its not really designed for the E1 so the cups are really a problem, not sure if you are also part of the facebook groups but i am almost finished with a 3d printed 'adapter' that you can put the ulanzi fan in and it then 'clicks' in like the lcd and how mty first $15 hack worked. Its a pity they didn't design it for sony really since the compromise now means its weak point is falling of. Ill make the 3d design available for download. Here is the old fan click to give you i idea ill soon post the adapter plate for the ulanzi fan and E1.
I completely agree...and yes, I am part of the same Facebook group and chats with you, and your designs are precisely what is needed. Now I'm not sure if they used this suction cup system so it could fit more body sizes, but I'd have paid $15 more for a camera specific adapter plate. I'm surprised smallrig hasn't made a fan of their own and used your concept!?
Yeah I can confirm this review is legit. I bought this fan before it was released and it extended my high frame rate recording way beyond my needs. And yeah the suction cups aren’t the greatest. I use a thin black rubber band around the body, cage, and fan to keep it secured for long periods of time.
Yes, that's great advice as well, I was actually considering doing that test with and without the fan, but felt overly complicated for most use-case scenarios. But yes, that definitely helps!
@@BrianCatalano Might be worth trying, without any fans, I streamed 4k30 over USB-C for 6.5 hours in a hot 25c room with no airflow, no overheat warning! -- I have a fan (one from aliexpress not this one) and I've not had to use it.

Add a reflecting white shade over the camera if you are outdoors. What about turning the fan on after 15 min instead of from the start of the shoot. I think I'll try this: the Heatsink Thermoelectric Cooler Cooling Peltier Plate Modules 10pcs for 27 bucks
Those are all really great ideas... And probably having any shade will have the most dramatic effect (and you're right, white reflector, probably even better!)

Good question... The fan ran for me, at the highest setting of 2, for an hour and 14 minutes (this was in direct sunlight) and when the fan went out, so did the camera. I am sure if I set it to the first speed setting on the fan, the fan would have run much longer and if the ZV-E1 was indoors, the camera would have also ran longer. I was impressed with how well this thing worked.
SUPERB video.A++ You must have put in a lot of work making this video, and its a very interesting stuff. Thank you for sharing you findings with us. I'm not gonna get the fan just yet. As I haven't found that I need it. But its really nice to know that there is this good option. my only problem with it, is that I would worry that forget that its on there, and I would close the flip screen to fast and break the screen. ps. The b-roll you shot in the beginning of the video. Thats Stock footage quality. You should consider joining the stock footage community. I have a feeling you would make a fortune on it.
Thank you so much, and I totally get that... I think I'll just keep it tucked in my camera bag, just in case, or if I know I'm going to shoot long a-roll. I also appreciate that... I need to look back into selling footage! Thank you for the reminder!
That's a great question and one that I don't precisely know as I didn't test it, but maybe I should have.... Yet, I hardly ever shoot in 1080 or in direct sunlight without the fan, but my presumption is that the results may be the same or nominally better. I'll look into it if I can... Thank you!!
@BrianCatalano I'm a canon shooter for Weddings. I'm thinking of getting a sony to match colors with the company and for reception low light. The company only shoots in 1080p. If sony works out, I will get another camera with dual card as A cam and this zve1 as B cam. Until then, I can't have this overheat in 1080p.
@@116Paul if I were you, I would get the fx30 without hesitation. The built in fan, a compact sturdy body, dual card slots, and if needed XLR top handle make it a far superior and cheaper camera for professional use. The only drawback is that it's APSC but if you're shooting in 1080, that's not a problem, and the dynamic range is better on the zve1, but that's an unfair comparison.... And the fx30 still has decent dynamic range. It's a workhorse for wedding videographers, and it takes great photos too! It may be worth looking into, the fx30 and not the zve1...
@BrianCatalano i appreciate your recommendation. I thought of the fx30. But I'm not crazy about apsc. I also still have sony full frame lenses from before.
Hello, I will be happy to answer your questions. The standard stabilizer can be activated at 4k 120 fps or FHD 240 FPS, but it also depends on the specific camera which stabilizer can be used. Focus tracking generally works well at 120 fps and 240 FPS, but this can vary depending on the camera. In low-light conditions, the quality may be similar to the FX3 and A7SIII, but this depends on the specific camera. It is important to compare the specific features and performance of the cameras to get an accurate assessment. I hope these answers have been helpful. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Thank you.
Hello! This all sounds like great information, but I'm curious if you meant to post this comment elsewhere!? Either way, no problem... Was just checking!
Wow the research is incredible - you should be a professor! I'm curious how many users encounter overheating? Because, as you pointed out, give the camera a rest for a minute or two and back to shooting you go! How did you find this fan?
Thank you! Also, that's a great question... From what I gather, everyone who owns a zve1 have very few experiences of overheating and almost no complaints... Whereas, most of the negative "press" about it seems to come from people who don't own the camera! Funny how that works!
That's amazing! I am finding very similar results, especially in a studio... This camera gets too much unwarranted hate!! Thanks for sharing your results!
It's a great gadget, but does it really stay in position with just these 4 little suction cups. Does it also work with the heavy usb cable for power is plugged into? Doubt.
The suction cups work well enough, but I know people who use one rubber band which does the trick and the USB plug is as secure as any other, but I suppose it depends on how you're attaching to it.
thanks fkr sharing this. how good is the dynamic stabilization at different focal range? i heard that it is good for wide angle like 20 mm etc but not of you go any further
Thank you! I should do a video on this subject, but I don't have conclusive results yet but my initial sense is that 16-35 range seem to work best. I have used a 14mm which was a bit jumpy, as similar as a 50mm. Yet, it may be user error too, so it's hard to tell for now. Generally though I use my 18mm f2.8 and my 20 f1.8 with great results!
Great product, great price! Super-DUMB attachment system! Did the folks at Ulanzi hear about magnets?! Which are now use to attaching not just competitor's less smart, but perfectly (magnetically) sticky, fans to cameras, as well as camera flash accessories, photo filters etc.? :) Hopefully Ulanzi will fix their mistake really soon. I personally have bought two of these and got rid of their crappy little suction cups, and upgraded to a DYI magnetic attachment solution.
Yes, agreed! There's a guy in the Facebook zve1 group who has designed a 3d print attachment that replaced the need of the suction cup... He works with Smallrig a lot, but he's giving out the design to be printed but I'm waiting for him to sell the piece!
Thanks for this video I pre-ordered mine at $20 as well. I was going to make a video for my channel but I would not have done as thorough a job as you did. New Sub here. Cheers.

Does the suction film not BLOCK the heat to escape when fan is not used. Do you think you would have got longer run time without fan if the suction film was not pasted on the back of the camera?
That's a great question, but in fact I believe the suction film actually absorbs the cool air as it may have some thermal lining within it. It's a pretty inventive device... especially for the price!
Brian, great video as always! I was considering a fan for my ZV-E1 until...you know what happened. I finally sold it by the way! I wonder, do you find yourself using the ZV-E1 more often than you fx3?!
Congrats on finally selling the zve1! Hope you got most of your money back... sooo you can buy another camera!? I do find myself using the zve1 ten fold more, just because of it's size. I'm out of town with the family now, and it's so easy to carry it in my sling with two lenses without a worry! But seriously, what are you buying next?
@BrianCatalano I lost 200 dollars but, I guess I have to eat it because I made the mistake...One of my friends rarely uses his A7s3 or Canon now because of the ZV-E1. Another friend messaged me yesterday and said you'll never need that big camera again hahah. So, I'm seriously thinking of selling my A7s3 later and ordering a ZV-E1 from the States!
@@francoismarc3 the main advantage of the s3 is obviously the EVF/ better screen and great heat dissipation, but now in a pinch, these fans may do the trick, but honestly I never worry about overheating as it literally has only happened once while using 4k 120 in direct sun, so that might be a smart purchase... Might allow you to condense a few pieces of gear!
Good question and I don't believe so but either way it attaches with rubber suctions stuck to an insulated sticker, so the fan doesn't even touch the camera per se, but I believe the fan is simply a battery operated motor with gears, so no magnets necessary.
Yes, I believe this fan will definitely increase your runtime if you are shooting outdoors and must be in direct sunlight... But, I still recommend finding shade if you can!
Yes, the fan blows air on the body, precisely where it seems to generate the most heat other than near the battery. I have heard of people opening the battery door to help airflow too!
Hello and sorry to hear that! Just to clarify, do you mean zve1 or zv1? Either way, the camera shouldn't do that and the only reason, other than a major malfunction which you would need to bring it into to get repaired, would be that you might be using the wrong memory card or a faulty one. What kind and speed of memory card are you using?
Thank you for taking your time to reply mate :) Using a high speed SSD u3 or something but it was v expensive for what it was (the camera is for my partners RUclips channel) Anyways I have changed the camera (yes its the zv1) onto a different tripod (one where the metal 1.5inch screw is the only thing attached to the camera) and means the camera is 1.5 inches floating above the tripod rather than screwed on the whole plastic block which was flush with the camera and blocked most of the bottom. I have just done a test and I managed 1 Hour hour in 4k/30 and I stopped recording manually, I have now moved to a warmer room to test again, so far im on 20 mins and still no temp warning issue. I think it's safe to say the heat was not being drawn away from the camera before. Fingers crossed I'll keep you updated!@@BrianCatalano
@@Liam_blake00 Of course! And, that's really interesting... sounds like you found the culprit! 4k 30 for over an hour is good, but yes keep me updated as I'm curious how long it records for as I haven't tried it on my zv1 yet! Thanks!!
Hello mate thanks again for your reply! Yea I think that's the culprit I managed another hour and 30mins while recording 4k and it still did not shut off so im super happy now! We needed a solid 30mins but now we know it can go for much longer in one take, Thank you so much!!!@@BrianCatalano
@@BrianCatalano So I work out of my air conditioned music studio and it works very well. No overheating at 4k 24 or 30. I ran it till my card was full. I don’t have a real need for 60 except for short bursts. I use external mics so no fan noise issues.
They should call these overheating cameras "short-shoot" cameras, or something like that. Not everyone shoots video in five minute clips with pauses in between.
Ha ha... That's sort of brilliant! And I get your meaning... This is why for so long certain cameras had record limits (and maybe still should). However, my older Sony A7C could record forever whereas the newer one, not so much. I do think it's also now presumed that a camera has a fan in it, it's for "long-shooters"!
Yes, you are correct! There were countless variables and controlled settings that I chose not to test for time and as I thought the presumption would be that by placing it in the most extreme environment (with and without a fan) that we could gauge how much better it would perform not in direct sunlight... But I definitely would love to revisit this, so maybe next time I test it, I will...so thank you! I also would be curious to know how it would compare in a studio with air conditioning. Yet, my guess is that both in shade and indoors at 4k 24fps with and without a fan, you'll probably get as long as you have battery life in either the fan or the camera!
I definitely think, generally speaking, you are correct! However, I cut/modify all my skins to specifically reduce this effect as much as possible. Here's how I do it: ruclips.net/video/0DEcELV5Hqk/видео.html
Ulanzi is total crap that doesn't work. Peltier plate type coolers is what "really" works. When I stress tested (4k 60) Ulanzi cooler in direct sunlight it lasted just 15-18minutes but Tilta fan under same conditions was unlimited/until battery died.
I can understand that summary from those results, and I agree that the Tilta fan is better (taking your word for it as I haven't tested it myself). Yet, my only addendum to that is... It's two very different products and two very different price points, so there's use-case advantages for both. I paid $20 for the fan that has tripled my shooting time in most scenarios. Yet, for me personally, I'm never shooting for 20min at 4k 60fps or 10min at 4k 120. Thankfully, I have the FX3 for those scenarios... And if I didn't have that, and needed longer intervals, I probably would pick up the fx30 over the zve1. That all being said, if you already own a camera that overheats and you really need to push it, you're right, go with the Tilta. If you just want a cheap, fast, and portable fix, I still recommend the ulanzi. Regardless, thanks for sharing your results!!
I can understand how many including yourself may feel disappointed in all that... My only perspective is relative and two-fold; I am thankful that I have the FX3, so if I need 4k 120, I've got options... That being said, I almost never shoot longer than 5 minute clips of 4k 120 (which is 25minutes of slow mo) and I've never have a memory card fail, and the other factor is for the price, the zve1 may be the cheapest full frame camera that gives you those high frame rates. Yet, again...I get that it's super annoying and that you might have to get this $40 fan, but for me and how I use the cam, I find this device a budget, bonus to an already great valued camera....that may be just me though. I'm curious, what camera are you thinking of picking up instead?
@@BrianCatalano the issue is not shooting clips longer than 5min. when the camera is ON , the overheating starts, regardless if you record or not. if the camera overheats in 5min outdoors of recording 4k120, it will also overheat in 5min of STANDBY while 4k120 is set.

@@BrianCatalano its the case with every sony camera, its the encoding, which the camera does while its on, regardless if you record. hence why they will even overheat if used as a webcam. I tested it extensively with many other sony cameras from as early as A6300 up to A7IV, the overheating times is around the same , recording, or just with screen on on standby. always
Yeah, it's disappointing when any camera overheats, and I always recommend the fx30 for anybody who wants a camera at that price point that will run all day. That being said, I've thankfully only had my zve1 overheat once (outside of these tests).
Too many variables! So you shot outside with fluctuating heat, wind, and cloud cover. Sigh. Why not just perform the tests in a light/temp controlled environment, like in your house?
That's a fair concern and with even true scientific studies, ruling out confounding variables is maybe the most difficult design element to account for... So that's why I wanted to be up front with the minimal temperature fluctuations of a degree or so and mention the slight (and momentary) passing of cloud coverage. However, it was a real world application to how one may shoot if in fact they are outside without a shade structure. This seemed like the most stressful setting and most worthy of testing as I have not experienced overheating indoors-- except with high frame rates. This is why I also ran the indoors tests at the tail end of the video for those HFRs... I'm not sure if you watched that portion, but again, at 4k 24fps indoors, a fan is in my experience, unnecessary. But you are right, there are too many variables, and I had to focus on the few that seemed to make the most sense for testing out this $20 fan. I welcome others to help and add to these findings with their own test as some have with very similar results. Thanks for the critique as it is a good question!
@@BrianCatalano I feel you fam. Shooting outdoors is the stress test that most people will care about, as they're probably overheating the most. I'm just looking at this camera to be a streaming webcam indoors, very climate-controlled, either through USB or HDMI+camlink. I am still VERY concerned about how many people are saying it shuts off after 45 minutes, just pushing video out through the HDMI. That seems insane to me, and makes this whole product segment a non-starter for multi-hour streaming. My current plan is just to get one and use thermal tape to attach a 50mm x 50mm copper heatsink on the back of the camera, and hang a super quiet Noctua fan from the wall behind it to give it constant airflow. If that can't get it stable, then I'm going back to my A5100 and giving up.
@@Standard.Candle I completely get that concern... And since I don't stream, I didn't even consider testing in that way. Yet, if I were in your shoes, I'd probably look at the fx30 or maybe even the A7C. Yet for $1598, you get a fan on the fx30 and maybe paired with the Sony 11mm f1.8, you'd be good to stream all day!

The fan pulls its weight, but ideally it would be nice if we didn't need one. That being said, it's really hard to beat the image quality, the dynamic range, and the dynamic stabilization!
Loved the broll shots bud. Some amazing clips at golden hour.
@@BrianCatalano Thank Brian. Really appreciate your recommendation. It wasn't one that was on my radar, though certainly one I'll look into heavily.
this is the most informative review ive ever seen!
@@drake8915 I really appreciate that...and thank you for stopping by to let me know. Helps more than you know!
I really appreciate that, and I appreciate you getting matching black rubber bands... I think I need to do that too! Thanks again!!
Great information, didn’t know they made fans like that!
I know, me neither. I think only recently is this a thing as far as I know, but it surprised me!
Try opening the card and battery doors, makes a HUGE difference
Yes, that's great advice as well, I was actually considering doing that test with and without the fan, but felt overly complicated for most use-case scenarios. But yes, that definitely helps!
@@BrianCatalano Might be worth trying, without any fans, I streamed 4k30 over USB-C for 6.5 hours in a hot 25c room with no airflow, no overheat warning! -- I have a fan (one from aliexpress not this one) and I've not had to use it.
@@DigiDriftZone Quick question: Do you turn off the display from the ZV-E1 when streaming or do you fold it in? I wanted to stream soon as well. Thank you already!
Wow!! That's crazy... I have yet to stream on the zve1 yet. But thats impressive!
Hi Brian. Can you tell me if the adhesive pad came off clean when you removed it for selling the ZV-E1? Thx!
@@RodneyGracia excellent question that I don't have an answer for because... I forgot to take it off. Oops!! It completely slipped my mind. I do have another sticker that I may add on and then remove at a later time. Sorry I don't know
Add a reflecting white shade over the camera if you are outdoors.
Hey bro AWESOME video! Where did you get the camera skin from? 🙏🏻
Thank you! The skin is from Alphagvrd... I think it's called contour black. I wrap all my cams in their skins but I modify them:

6:29 why not turn the fan off and back on while we are viewing? If the fan sound is there from jump we won't know if the sounds we are hearing is from the fan or not
Oh yeah, that would have been a good idea. I had so many variables and controls going on, I forgot this obvious one...
Great video buddy, Im looking rght now for a vnd for my sony 14mm - any ideas?
Thank you so much... and I know Kolarvision makes some drop in filters that are supposed to be good or you can get this: amzn.to/3MiVYkt
But I think only vnd's work for the front of the lens or on a matte box. Hope that helps!
This was done after the new filmwear? Wonder if we can male some tiny whole on the plastic of camera?
Well ulanzi has made a second gen version of this product, which doesn't have the suction cups, and it works so much better!
Maybe I missed it - how long of battery life did you get on the fans internal battery?
Good question... The fan ran for me, at the highest setting of 2, for an hour and 14 minutes (this was in direct sunlight) and when the fan went out, so did the camera. I am sure if I set it to the first speed setting on the fan, the fan would have run much longer and if the ZV-E1 was indoors, the camera would have also ran longer. I was impressed with how well this thing worked.
SUPERB video.A++
You must have put in a lot of work making this video, and its a very interesting stuff.

Great video. Question. Does sony zve1 overheat in 1080p in direct sun without the fan?
After 90 minutes of 4k24 H.265 10-bit 4:2:2 recording on a V60 SD card, the battery in my ZV-E1 finally calls it quits. No fans attached.
Hopefully Ulanzi will fix their mistake really soon.

Thank you for sharing~
You're so welcome... And thank you for making a great product! It's been a life saver!!
I put the fan on the Sony a7iv and the air noise appeared in the video audio. it was frustrating.
Sorry to hear that...and that is annoying! How were you recording audio?
You shouldn't be using the actual cameras microphone. A cheap shotgun mic will do. The little Rode Shotgun mics work great
Brian, great video as always!
@BrianCatalano And I can count on one hand how many times I've shot in 4k120...Lighter and less equipment is the way to go!!

Does the fan have a magnet inside or something that can damage your camera?
Good question and I don't believe so but either way it attaches with rubber suctions stuck to an insulated sticker, so the fan doesn't even touch the camera per se, but I believe the fan is simply a battery operated motor with gears, so no magnets necessary.
@@BrianCatalano Lets hope so

Do you think with this fan it will be great for weeding films?
Yes, I believe this fan will definitely increase your runtime if you are shooting outdoors and must be in direct sunlight... But, I still recommend finding shade if you can!
Thanks for this video---I'm not sure about using the screen to hold in the fan :). but thanks for the video---
You're welcome... I really appreciate it!!
I would guess the fan blows air on the body vs trying to pull away?
Yes, the fan blows air on the body, precisely where it seems to generate the most heat other than near the battery. I have heard of people opening the battery door to help airflow too!
I’m so confused because my zv1 indoors shuts off after 10mins at 4K :( I have turned the heat setting to high and still no difference
Thank you for taking your time to reply mate :)
Using a high speed SSD u3 or something but it was v expensive for what it was (the camera is for my partners RUclips channel)
Anyways I have changed the camera (yes its the zv1) onto a different tripod (one where the metal 1.5inch screw is the only thing attached to the camera) and means the camera is 1.5 inches floating above the tripod rather than screwed on the whole plastic block which was flush with the camera and blocked most of the bottom.

@@ifelovemusicSo... any results???
@@BrianCatalano So I work out of my air conditioned music studio and it works very well. No overheating at 4k 24 or 30. I ran it till my card was full. I don’t have a real need for 60 except for short bursts. I use external mics so no fan noise issues.
@@ifelovemusic that's brilliant! It's crazy what a little fan can do... and how much better the camera performs with it!
i can hear the fan? i can tell you only if you turn it off and on...
Yes, I think you are right... It's pretty quiet though, so unless you're vlogging on it with the internal mic, it's fairly negligible.
I do think it's also now presumed that a camera has a fan in it, it's for "long-shooters"!
you didn't test 4k 24fps no-fan under shade
Yes, you are correct! There were countless variables and controlled settings that I chose not to test for time and as I thought the presumption would be that by placing it in the most extreme environment (with and without a fan) that we could gauge how much better it would perform not in direct sunlight... But I definitely would love to revisit this, so maybe next time I test it, I will...so thank you! I also would be curious to know how it would compare in a studio with air conditioning. Yet, my guess is that both in shade and indoors at 4k 24fps with and without a fan, you'll probably get as long as you have battery life in either the fan or the camera!
the skin made overheating worst. i know because i had them on my zve1 and a7iv and all overheated with it
I definitely think, generally speaking, you are correct! However, I cut/modify all my skins to specifically reduce this effect as much as possible. Here's how I do it: ruclips.net/video/0DEcELV5Hqk/видео.html
Sold me!!!
Awesome! Hope it works for you as well as it has for me!!
14min 4k120 indoors EVEN WITH A FAN, its rather a fail on this cam... then you have the single card slot issue
@@BrianCatalano the issue is not shooting clips longer than 5min. when the camera is ON , the overheating starts, regardless if you record or not. if the camera overheats in 5min outdoors of recording 4k120, it will also overheat in 5min of STANDBY while 4k120 is set and the camera is ON
@@cbflazaro hmmm, that's interesting... I hadn't noticed that to be the case for me, but now I want to specifically test that. Thank you!
@@BrianCatalano its the case with every sony camera, its the encoding, which the camera does while its on, regardless if you record. hence why they will even overheat if used as a webcam.
I tested it extensively with many other sony cameras from as early as A6300 up to A7IV, the overheating times is around the same , recording, or just with screen on on standby. always
I dont know how sony can sell a camera at that price who overheat after 3-4 minutes...jesus
Unwanted vibrations.& sound😂
Yes, that's fair! I didn't notice the vibration but yes the fan does make a noise... So maybe it's better suited for s&q mode for some!
