I'd love to start a company which makes things exactly how they did in the 80s but bringing it into modern style! quality long lasting buildings both look better and last longer.

That PC that was left on was probably for some sort building management system, could be for HVAC, security, fire, etc. One big clue is the active Honeywell boxes by the PC for it to talk to some system in the building.

It’s a shame that the building will be torn down soon to build 500 flats! A good friend of mine used to work there back in the day,

I have to say I agree with you about 80s building. Even here in the US I come across some really nice looking buildings from the 80s and they are just the best!

I love them too. The suburbs of Washington, DC and New York City have a ton of 80's office parks.

That really is a fantastic building. Here's hoping they keep the lifts. That's awesome and weird how that computer is still switched on.

80's electronics are amazing. Transistor era just kicking in, and stuff were built SO good. The only reason today's products are shit is because that's how companies want it to be

One of my favourite buildings with 80s architecture is Manchester airport terminal 2 the older part (1993) before the recent changes

I like how you explained about how buildings were built in the 1980s. And how this building has been built in the 1980s and everything is so 1980s.

  • @UncommonElevators
    @UncommonElevators 2 года назад +1

Reminds me a lot of the suburban office parks here in the US. We built way too many of them, and most of them are in bad locations. A lot of them are vacant or are being demolished as a result. I've been in a few buildings in Reston Virginia that look exactly like this one.

  • @matthewjones9259

You do realise it’s fire alarm system is so not 1980s as it’s a modern notifier system although the panel is an ID3000 which I think is discontinued but I know it’s only been around since the early 2000s but for notifier systems installed after 2010 mostly now use the ID2000 and ID50 which are newer although the ID3000 could still be made but I know it is more expensive than the ID2000 but notifier is kinda good quality to this day even though its owned by honeywell which has kinda messed up a few fire alarm companies it owns but yeah it wouldn’t have been installed in the 1980s or even 1990s so I bet it would have had something different if the building is older than that

I really have to agree on that. Especially the mid to late 1980s and the early 90s up until about 1993 are my favourite here. They still built these heavy-duty yet still beautiful looking buildings with glass roofs and - my favourite - these victorian arch like glass roofs until the early 1990s in Germany and Scandinavia. I recently found a hotel in Magdeburg from 1994 that has got this feel to it and filmed the lifts in there.

Was this building abandoned and being renovated to reopen or did it just temporarily close to be done up and took the opportunity to urbex it? If it ever reopens!

I wonder when and why that place got abandoned. It seems to still be in OK condition. So hopefully the place could be brought back to life before it gets trashed by vandals as is usual with abandoned places. Unless you get some decent security.

Another great video thank you 😊
What do you think about visiting some movie locations in the UK and USA after the pandemic and doing a few videos on any buildings that are still there from the movies and their history over the years? I think a lot of people would really like that a lot

The device attached to that computers was a honeywell bna-2cs - a BMS to ethernet gateway, someone's monitoring that buildings BMS remotely? Though I don't see what there would actually be left to monitor, it's all switched off!

I wonder how many office plebs utterly fed up with their meaningless sad existence have thrown themselves off those stairs. No rain inside that atrium to helpfully wash the blood splatter away.
