I loved your mixed-media landscape. I really liked how you worked with the Neocolors. Frankly, glad of his video because most people get the Neocolor 2 and then they turn them into watercolors and while they're great, I really want to find use of the Neocolor 1 and explore that. Both sets are wonderful - so pigmented, so creamy.
9:40 yes, exactly, "but" ... 😂 I am an oil pastel fun and user, and oil pastels the way used it here are not opaque as you had expected. Heat melt the tip of your sticks with kitchen candle and use painting knife. oil pastel techniques are tricky and need a lot of practice but the result will be jaw dropping.
You can always use Turpenoid or other similar solvents to "melt" these colors so they spread with a brush, just as the Neocolor 2 colors do with water...but with the advantage that the "painted" Neocolor 1 colors are permanent once they dry, (which is very quickly). I have sets of both.
Ahhh they look so nice all sharp and colour ordered in the box, and it looks like some colours are different to my neocolor 2 box too which is interesting! Loved seeing your swatching and experimenting, especially comapred to the crayolas. Definitely deserve a treat to some neocolor 2's one day too, I can't wait to see all of the art you do with them all!
Your painting is pretty! I definitely recommend giving the Neocolor ii's a go! They're super fun, very pigmented, plus when you go to sharpen them you can sharpen them over a container and wet the shavings to use as paint, too, so it doesn't go to waste! :)
I still can’t decide what to go for- neocolour 1 or 2 - I don’t want it to smudge onto the next page - or have to spray/set any painting I use them on…
@@Erinba That's fair, I can't speak for neocolor 1s, as I don't remember if I've even tried a sample of one before or not, off the top of my head, but from my understanding I feel like they'd probably be basically the same as the 2s, but without the ability to use water over them to paint? :) I think it basically just depends on whether you want them to be water soluble or not, but I could be totally wrong because I have all neocolor 2s lol :) Maybe you could get one or two of each and try them out and see which you prefer?
Awesome experimentarion and beautiful sjetchbook painting!! Btw...Lyra makes a water soluble version that is super duper close in quality to caran dache...I want to say its half the price. I love them!! I then bought additional colors from the caran dache brand in addition.
Hello Whitney and thank you for the informative review. Can you use acrylic paint on top of the neocolor 1 crayons? like in mixed media... just use these with acrylics freely? thanks. Aidan

Finally another good review of the Neo1.
The underpainting and over painting technique is new to me, can't wait to practice more, thanks

Omg thanks so much!! I’m definitely going to go check them out now!! I hadn’t heard of those
@@paintbywhitney3029 absolutely...glad to help! Art suppliers can get expensive so its always good when there are good alternatives.
@@paintbywhitney3029 Full name to look for them: Lyra aquacolor water-soluble wax crayons
Great video! If I use these on top of my acrylic paintings on canvas - would I need to set/fix/spray these before selling?
👌🌹

Try contacting the manufacturer regarding the broken ones. Maybe they will send you replacements. Fingers crossed.
Can you put the broken pieces ends over a flame briefly and press them together to repair the break?
