Have been clicking reviews from cars guide hoping it was from Richard. Been disappointed.. but finally here it comes and it is great. Would be nice to see Richard in more hip hop style than rockn roll especially when Cadillac arrives someday.
Hey mate! Is the dynoaudio much better then the standard system? Is it rock n roll like Liam Gallagher? Or is it more boring like Chris Martin? ie reading far too many big books?
twigda Aloha dude! Yeah the dynoaudio system is stacks better. I’m driving test driving a Golf GTI at the moment with the Discover Pro audio system which is better than 75 per cent of systems in cars I encounter, but it doesn’t have the clarity and richness of the Dynoaudio - it’s outstanding. That said I’ve heard better ... Lexus for example make cars I struggle to always love but their Mark Levinson audio systems are killer. Liam Gallagher or Chris Martin? Definitely Liam. Cheers Richard
Great review Richard. How did you find the dsg when driving around in D? I know this is a track video but I am sure you would driven one in the real world. Cheers
magoo47 thanks mate. Yep, I’ve never met a dual-clutch auto that wasn’t perfectly smooth. The seven-speed wet clutch DSG in the Golf R is as good as they get at this point in time I reckon. I’m currently driving a Golf GTI with the same DSG and yep occasionally at very low speeds it’s a bit jerky - yesterday in the supermarket car park I could feel trying to anticipate which gear I needed occasionally but, you do get used to it quickly. I find the jerkiness is more pronounced in lower torque cars but the R and GTI have heaps at 370 and 380Nm. Cheers Richard
@@Julianmayson The R used to have a dry-clutch DSG (this is the one which was the subject of the recall), but now all Golf Rs have a wet-clutch DSG. Good question. cheers Richard
@@carsguide Thanks Richard for the feedback. I am currently driving a 2018 R and overall it's a fantastic car. And yes as good as the dq381 is find in bumper to bumper traffic it can be a a little jerky. Also off the line there is a slight pause unless you use launch control. I considered the M140i for it's wonderful zf auto however given my wife also drives the car too I got a little nervous given it takes more skill to drive being rwd. R might be the more boring option but it's safer knowing how the mrs drives 😂
Nik Man I review cars for ageing dads with official beer bellies, I review cars for mums who Uber to give their kids maths tutoring, I review for brothers and sisters who don’t have a lot of money but want something safe to drive. I’m a real guy reviewing for real people. I also review for you. PS I’ll be wearing skinny jeans and vans when I’m 80, too. Richard
Oh and as for understeer - the R with its all-wheel drive tends to understeer a lot less than the front-driven Golf GTI. The Extended Differential Lock also helps - if you come into a corner too hot it'll help you through the turn spookily well. Cheers Richard
Just to buy the Akrapovic handmade titanium exhaust alone would cost $5950. The front brake discs are cross drilled and come with performance pads and go for $900. Then there’s the 19-inch Pretoria Black alloy wheels which are a kilo less than the regular wheels and cost $1500. And finally there’s the Dynaudio sound system which you can option in Australia and costs $1000. All up it’s $9350 for an extra five grand. Cheers Richard
Anyone commenting about his personal image or how he dresses, tape a bag around your head. It’s a car review, comment on his review style. The fact you took the time to type up your comment further proves you need to rid the world of your uselessness.
Med z I will admit I was guilty of being tough on Mr Berry the first time I saw one of his reviews, but then you watch a few more and realise the man is really in a class of his own, and offers a very special take on the world. These guys saying nasty stuff are just unfamiliar with him. Those of us who are enlightened know better 👍
I’m all about vdubs but you have to admit the only 4 cylinder that actually sounds nice is the subbie boxer engine. VW needs to drop a vr6 turbocharged engine on the next generation golf R .
@@originalswolfsburg9889 Never gonna happen. After the emissions scandal and the big push for greener cars. Plus itl take sales from the RS3. VW wont want that.
your right .i drive a golf R it sounds great inside.but its 2ltr. and 2ltrs do not sound great even paying the extra for the exhausts.you need an RS3 for that!,
@@originalswolfsburg9889 subie rumbles sound nice but vw are testing a 5 cylinder for the new r. And 5 bangers sound tenfold better than a 6 cylinder(vr6 excluded)
you gotta love how this dated "give me a manual or give me death" attitude is somehow seen as a stamp of manhood amongst the fools who spew it out at EVERY automatic performance car review...give it a rest guys, nobody gives a toss about your views on how gears should be changed.
I love this car but please calm down a bit... it seems you try to be funnier than you really are. I don´t really know if this is true but it seems so.. and thats what it´s important for the people watching this. Otherwise this Special Edition is hot!!!
really? a much better all-wheel drive, 2 litre, turbo-charged hatchback? the Golf R is pretty good with an Akropovic titanium exhaust, a 7-speed DSG, adaptive cruise control, dual-zone climate controlled air-con, wicked stereo, anti-fatigue monitoring, electronic diff-lock, performance brakes, emergency braking system, leather heated seats, and a reverse camera. what would you call it's competition for this price?
@@superflea72 You can get a used Audi RS3 (Hot hatch) with very low miles for that price, and about 100 more horsepower. You can get a new Honda Civic Type R which is faster than a Golf R and about $6K cheaper brand new fully equipped. Granted it (Honda) doesn't have all-wheel drive (Golf R isn't really fully all-wheel drive either) But it beats it in every other aspects.
@@maximusprometheus6149 fair call on the RS3, they're great cars that I didn't think of. as for the Civic...I don't care how good it may be to drive, there's no way in hell that I would buy or drive a car that fugly! EVERYONE factors looks into their performance car buying decision, whether they want to admit it or not, and those rolling puke-bags are monumentally hideous to me.
Outstanding review - I just bought one of these.
Went to test drive this last week and put a deposit down.
RUclips videos just don't do the exhaust any justice. It sounds amazing in person.
Whats the difference between 2018 and 2019 golf r ?
