A Healthy Dose of Fran red lotus Ming hua specifically #watertribe aggressive waterbenders are the dopest but overall ur 100% correct Jianzhu was a terrifying villain and just overall a quality evill as mf lol
Jianzhu is unlike any other villain in Avatar. While it might be implied that other villains in Avatar have killed people, Jianzhu actually did it right out in the open. He's ruthless and pure evil.
Fantastic video! He's definitely my favorite Avatar villain right behind Azula. It would've been awesome to get an on-screen treatment of him in like a mini series or something
kkachi95 oh 100%! I can just picture it, only question would be who would play him - I’m thinking Hoon Lee, him in Warriors was a great piece showing a cunning side
Fran, this is probably my favorite TROK video on this entire platform- well done!! Jianzhu was really manipulative and a mixture of Azula & Ozai, Kuvira, Zaheer, Long Feng, Unalaq, heck even Long Feng. I love how you explained that so well.
Lucifer Clips that’s so lovely of you! Thanks! And dang I forgot to mention Long Feng, but yes the fact that he encompasses all the villains is amazing
I couldn't agree with you more. The scariest part about Jianzhu is that he isn't incorrect about the issues in the earth kingdom and the surrounding regions. Granted, some of those issues are directly connected to him and his network of magistrates across the continent, but his criticisms of the people who oppose him aren't unfounded, and despite the flawed nature of his justifications he doesn't necessarily take bloody and contemptible actions without taking his eyes off of what he considers the "greater good." Jianzhu was one of those villains that I wanted to see be brought down, but he was also one with some of the greatest depth we've seen in the Avatar world. There were times where I sympathized with him, or was frustrated on his behalf, even after he left Yun to die and killed Kelsang; and we see Kyoshi dealing with a similar struggle trying to reconcile her hatred of him and the admittedly positive impact he's had on the world.
At first, when he was talking to Kyoshi about how he is the man holding the earth kingdom together, I really got a vibe "oh he's like Moriarty but good" but still with a feeling he was gonna be bad anyway and then so he did
@@AHealthyDoseofFran The fact he has a falling out with Kelsang is a bit of a red flag, and then how he starts torturing Yun to try to get him to firebend is an even greater one, but at the same time its understandable he is getting so worried and turning to desperate measures. Plus Hei-Ran goes along with it so it seems more desperate than evil. So really the red flags only become clear during a reread when one is looking for them.
If Jianzhu hadn’t sacrificed Yun to Father Glowworm and instead tried to have saved both of them, Kyoshi probably would’ve been more compliant and receptive to his mentorship. Kyoshi only turned on him for personal reasons rather than a disagreement with his methods.
aster4jaden I both do and I don’t as I don’t want the magic of the books to be lost, but I can’t wait for the sequel! Be sure to stick around and subscribe for my Rise of Kyoshi content 😄
Funnily enough Jianzhu actually wanted funds to build a navy/army for the Southern Water Tribe. But was denied by the Earth King, I think. Sad how one decision by the Earth King led to the near destruction of the Southern Water tribe.
No, yeah, he's pretty much the best. And I think something that you touched on, but doesn't get elaborated on much, is that to the world, he's really a hero. None of the Lawful Good citizens care that he slaughtered the Yellow Necks & he's basically Kuruk's Sokka. He is a perfect demonstration of just how wrong this society can go while still fully convinced it's in the right. And it's basically the entire world that thinks this way, sure Hui is his enemy but not because he thinks Jianzhu is a bad person, simply because he's a political rival. Which serves as a good contrast because, whatever his faults, Jianzhu really does think he's acting in the good of the world. He even goes out of his way to amend his will so that Kyoshi will have his full resources at her disposal in the event that she kills him. Now that's dedication.
TheLithp this is a really brilliant point and you make some really good notes towards the fact that he was considered a hero, which kind of makes him even more terrifying in a way - thanks for commenting!
We don't need to get an animated series of Kyoshi, as the book is good enough on it's own, but I can only imagine how spectacular/mortifying the scenes of Kelsang wiping out people with airbending and Jianzhu burying all of those people alive would be.
Troy II I totally agree, only reason I’d be for it is it build up the world in a more accessible form - but yes those battles would be incredibly terrifying that’s for sure! I’m working on more Kyoshi related videos in future so be sure to stick around for those
Ouh, I like this video. And I can agree, Jianzhu was an amazing villain and he kind of reminds me of Viren (from the dragon prince, you know it?). Both have a desire which they want to achieve with anything coming up, may it be poisoning your best friend and yourself, burying people alive or taking the risk of losing everything you have. They would do everything for it. So yeah, they are amazing and amazingly evil.
I’d say he’s more of an older and more politically savvy kuvira. Both were protégés and essentially adopted children of the current beifong leader who surpassed even the beifong children. Both did something related to a water tribe avatar (kuvira fought the red lotus) and both used their power to try to restore order in the earth kingdom
Jianzhu may be the greatest villain to me but, who is your favourite of the series? Let me know!
A Healthy Dose of Fran red lotus Ming hua specifically #watertribe aggressive waterbenders are the dopest but overall ur 100% correct Jianzhu was a terrifying villain and just overall a quality evill as mf lol
Azula 100%!
Probably still Amon. I feel he's very underrated & was the best until Jianzhu came along.
”Kuruk is an IDIOT and the worst Avatar of all time.”
*cries in Shadow of Kyoshi*
Haha honestly, now I feel bad after reading it
Azula is still my favourite villain just because she’s such an interesting character - but Jianzhu is one of the most calculating - brilliant video!
Hoenstly, Azula will always have a soft spot with me - and am looking at looking more into her as a character in future for sure
Jianzhu is unlike any other villain in Avatar. While it might be implied that other villains in Avatar have killed people, Jianzhu actually did it right out in the open. He's ruthless and pure evil.
Mathew Poynter oh 100%, and I think what makes it worse is that he feels no real remorse - he is a terrifying villain
I think this is just because of the book being more mature overall.
Zaaher killed The earth queen suffocating her..
Mathew Poynter that’s just because the book is for older ages
Implied? Zaheer outright killed the Earth Queen on screen.
Facts.
Antoine Bandele straight up 👏🏻
Fantastic video! He's definitely my favorite Avatar villain right behind Azula. It would've been awesome to get an on-screen treatment of him in like a mini series or something

I didnt realize how evil Joanzhu was until he explained how he buried those Daofei

Life's cat I know right? Like you got a sense of his true side but never really anything until Yun
@@AHealthyDoseofFran The fact he has a falling out with Kelsang is a bit of a red flag, and then how he starts torturing Yun to try to get him to firebend is an even greater one, but at the same time its understandable he is getting so worried and turning to desperate measures. I believe the hair term you were looking for is called a top-knot.
jlfitzg1 ah that’s it! Thank you - I was wracking my brain for ages trying to remember it after

I agree, I really hope we get a Series based on Kyoshi just so we can see Jianzhu in action.

I am here for the sassiness
Salvador Vieyra haha it was a lot of fun to make that’s for sure

I know of Dragon Prince indeed, and I very much see the point you are making by comparing them too!
“Kuruk is an idiot and the worst avatar of all time”
Shadow of kyoshi: am I joke to you?
0 that joke does not have a long lasting affect 😂
Jianzhu was reincarnated in the form of Katara. Him being an avatar comparison and all. Jianzhu is my favorite villain of Avatar.
He reminded me allot of tyran lanister
I totally agree with you
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the video
❤️❤️❤️
Marilyn C thank you!
Hmm, still Azula. I guess you could argue Jianzhu is a more mature, a bit more sane and wiser version of Azula. They have a very similar essence.
I’d say he’s more of an older and more politically savvy kuvira. Both were protégés and essentially adopted children of the current beifong leader who surpassed even the beifong children. Yeah I definitely hated him the most
That’s some facts right there
