    -----------------
The Peugeot 508 has received a mid-life makeover, giving it a cleaner look and several other tweaks. However, with few traditional rivals left in the family car sector, one may wonder why one would choose the 508 over other options. The 508 is sleeker and more rakish than its predecessors, resembling a four-door coupe like the Volkswagen Arteon. While the 508 equals or betters its premium rivals in terms of style and proportions, it falls short when it comes to engine power. The only non-electrified petrol engine available is a 1.2-litre three-cylinder with just 129bhp, compared to the 147bhp in an entry-level Audi A5 and 181bhp in a BMW 4 Series. The engine feels underpowered on steeper hills and on the motorway. However, the 508 offers impressive comfort, a stylish and well-built cockpit, and neat handling. It is more oriented toward comfort than its sportier premium rivals. The car's flaws, including the small engine, prevent it from being a genuine rival to other premium-badged four-door coupes. Despite its feel-good factor and style, the 508 may struggle to compete with the practicality of high-rise crossovers.
