This entire album is magnificent. I can't find it in it's entirety, but luckily I have it in vynil. I found it at random in a thrift shop in Brazil, and at the moment I was obsessed by balkan music and eastern europen folk music, especially including fiddles. When I saw "Hungarian Songs" I was instantly hooked. Nothing could have prepared me enough for the beauty of this album. I was blown away the first I listened to it, and still am. Also very interesting the below comments from one of the singers!
Many thanks for sharing! Recorded in 1965 , our choir ( 50 young girls from a secondary school in Budapest,Hungary) was invited to the Aldeburgh Festival. In London we had the possibility to take a record in the presence of Zoltan Kodály, this record won the Edison prize later. It was 49 years ago, my God! I was also singing there, and am very proud of it! Thank you, SOCIALSEER once more!
In the original form of course, not .BUT .Our secondary school, Leövey Klara in Vendel street,Budapest had the 120 years jubilee in 1995 ,and on this occasion some old students founded the Ilona Andor( our conductor) friends' Association with Zoltan Kodaly women choir! They have been singing for 21 years already( I personally don't sing in it, but I visit all of their concerts), with a great success. The conductor, B.Horvath Andrea was also a student of Ilona Andor. They sang already in Bruxelles, in Rome, in Vatikan, etc. It is wonderful, isn't it? Thank you for your comment,I wish you a happy new year!
Veronika Thank you for your answer. I think this song is so beautiful, but it is very difficult to sing it well, the choir must be very good! I'll listen to something of the "new" choir. Happy new year to you, too, from Switzerland!
A very deep thank you to YOU madam. I’ve cherished both this recording and the fact I was the first in my circle of musical friends to your performance back in the 60’s. We were mostly Detroit Jazz musicians, yet, to a person it was love at first listening.
Golden Gate Music: Thank you very much. Our conductor, Ilona Andor was born 115 years ago, last sunday we celebrated it together with the "old" members of her Kodály Choir. Many of us are already over 70, but we never forget her. It was wonderful, we've seen old photos from the beginnings, were listening to old records and were singing together. And we were happy.

Veronika very impressive! Does the choir still exist?
