Y’know, this might actually bring joy to a lot of people even 30 years later. Yes, the movie did a great job of why some people need to get out more, but it actually is nice for some people to have someone to talk to.
Yes I am here because or Rent-A-Pal. I have to say something about this does draw you in. This actors did a fine job actually. What an odd idea, but I see why it landed in the 1980's. It should re-emerge. It would be a hit during covid time.

Had flashbacks after watching "Rent-A-Pal" (Hulu)
I know people make fun of this but maybe this kept some lonely person from doing something terrible. I think probably none of you have any idea what goes through the mind of a person who has no one or thinks they have no one. So stop and think before criticizing.

All the people bashing this should take a step back and realize this guy used dead pan humor to sell a tape that was not supposed to be taken seriously. This video has had such a cult following that the Rocky Horror Picture Show crowd could not touch it in the sense of love and people defending this.
Think about it, had Andy Kaufman done this as a good we'd all be applauding him for another character (or just building on his erratic persona). This gentleman, not sure what he did afterwards, maybe tried more in this vein and didn't catch on or he moved on to other things (if he was doing the avant guard (sp?) Style of comedy it had pretty much petered out in the late 80's).
Be happy he made this, or frightened, whatever floats your boat. LOL
