Funfact (aka an excuse to lore dump): Pearl's last name was actually already known before the dlc. It just never got an official translation (as far as I remember) because it was in one of those fancy magazines we'll never get overseas. I think it was stated in an interview with her where she showed the readers around her giant mansion.
There also is a manga about Marina's relationship to Pearl drawn by Marina (in-unsiverse). It's referencing shōjo mangas and is heavily implying that she has feelings for Pearl. And honestly, they're 100% a thing, Nintendo's just too scared to admit it
the splatoon base website unambiguously states that marina is in love with pearl romantically but not in the english version
well there was that line from marina i got today saying "seriously, acht? you're hitting on pearl in front of...." she doesn't finish but i don't think she was referring to me there

For example: Accelerando in music tells the musicians to speed up slowly
The music naming scheme makes sense with the whole order theme (I think)
Music is multiple parts coming together and working in sync to create something, and the Jelletons are all drones working towards a new world order
Also how fitting that the enemy that charges up a dash attack is called "Accelerando"

The foyer also changes color after you die depending on your chips
I had mostly Range chips with a few Support chips so my Octoling had tan hair with purple highlights

The launch into the air when armor’s broken upgrade is VERY necessary btw. Saved my life multiple times every run, very worth it.
I almost fell off the map so many times and it saved me every time

im a huge fan of how Side Order is kinda centered around music
all the enemy names are music terms i just thought it was neat :)
And the sheer amount of visualizers everywhere is STUNNING. Marina sure has good design taste!
(fun fact about the foyer after clearing: at the part where the room goes dark and the giant orb is in the middle, flying through it plays short order)

Brella is super good for this tbh, sprinkler is a good defensive weapon so you can focus on objectives, legit carried me on a few danger floors
I'm not a Splatoon guy but I find the Splatoon lore interesting and the story campaign's fun so I find it hilarious that agent 4 has been just reduced to the new one even though they have been a agent for a good amount of time truly the most neglected agent at this point I'm convinced that they've became just clean up crew and is so done with not being invited to the secret missions
Tbf, other than this dlc there wasn't a chance for agent 4 to appear, they were the character you play as in splatoon 2, agent 8 is the character in OE, in splatoon 3 story mode I don't think it would fit having them there unless you change a lot of things so they need to be there, and in SO (side order) there was an opportunity for agent 4 to be there, tbh I expected them to appear in the dlc just how agent 3 (now captain) appeared in OE
Now that I think about it, agent 4 is the most hyped up splatoon character that literally hadn't had an opportunity to be in any place yet, splatoon 4 maybe?
fun fact !!! not only can u play the palette like a drumpad with the cursor, but if u play handheld u can play it with the touch screen :)

I don’t know why Google gave you that result when you asked what Houzuki means. Houzuki is “pygmy squid” in Japanese, and is indeed Pearl’s surname. Hers and Marina’s surnames have been known for a while, but were only published in Corocoro magazine in Japan before this I think.
Houzuki is from "daiōhōzukīka" which means colossal squid in Japanese not pygmy squid

Ian BGM is just big man with the letters swapped around. Big man used that alias to collab with the squid sisters to write “liquid sunshine” which plays during splatfests now. Shiver and Frye found out about it later though which is what led to the creation of “big betrayal” because big man hid it from them.
The palette sound effects gimmick also works with the touch screen, btw so you can just mash them all at once lol it’s so fun
I actually love marinas palette. I got so so far and ended up dying to a boss but there’s a color chip that basically turns it into undercover brella and then I got so many damage increases and three range increases 😭😭 slayage
SAME i loved being able to use it as undercover, in my first run i died at floor 29 i was so mad

I appreciate you reading everything out loud, because I definitely spammed A to get back to fighting and realized too late how much lore I was missing. Definitely loving this gameplay approach and trying out all the weapons. Though I miss the pure puzzle-only-no-fighting stages of story mode or Octo Expansion.

Honestly the game is really fun when i'm playing it, a bit repetitive watching other people playing it, but i stayed for just hearing your commentary bcoz it's the most entertaining i've seen so far. Thanks jay.
Edit: Ooh also, that layering rotator boss has one of, if not, the best sound design on any splatoon game ever. The ambience, sound effects, music, its terrorizing and intimidating.

Fun fact! The reason why you start specifically with the dualies and the brella is because those were not only the two new weapon classes that came with Splatoon 2, but they also happen to be Pearl and Marina's mains respectively, much like how Callie mains roller and Marie mains charger! :)
Just completed the dlc today and I absolutely loved it!! Can’t wait to see Jay finish it!!
It took so long to beat this dlc :skull: there were so much rage, sweat, blood and tears trying to beat the dlc. I knew i'd be comp af knowing others beat it before me, and that just made it worse. I'm comp at this game when I choose to be, but when I see other people better at me or a higher level I get so angry lol. Like, for a while I was a higher level then you when the game came out, and i was like. Ok. this is my only drive to keep playing: being better then jaymoji. (offtopic tho, ur a huge part of my childhood) ANYWAY. I'm HELLA levels behind you now, including many others, and I rememeber when on day one or the first week of splatoon 3 launched, SOMEOEN ALREADY GOT TO LVL 100? I WAS LIKE? WHAT? THERES A LEVEL 100? It takes so long to level up. I play so many games that I wanna eventually quit so I can just main Splatoon 3 like I used to, it was such a huge impact on my life.
Idk why I'm saying any of this. But when I beat the dlc I was crying so bad lol. I missed Marina nd Pearl so so much. I missed Inkopolis Square, because I visited it for 365 days, and then.. everyone just left. Idk. Seeing everyone leaving a game that meant so much to me made me soo sad. BUT. I DID IT. I BEAT THE DLC. IT TOOK 2 DAYS. BUT I DID IT. Anyway

I never watched Jay play side order, but now that I finished I was like "Oh wow now I can watch Jay play!"
words can not describe the pain I felt when Jay was walking around and did not earn a single bit of his bonus. I vividly remember getting ''dont use main weapon'' while using Octavio's weapon on an open map, and I had to kill all the enemies. I did not pass that bonus.

i find the armour jump to be pretty useful, combined with my now 2 second armour recovery i regenerate before i even hit the ground in most cases

personally, i really liked using the brella in side order! the cover was really useful in my runs, and sometimes i could get the brella itself to splat lesser enemies

[Tiny bit of spoilers]when you finish you can play it over and over again and you can also play in the inkopolis square just like inkopolis plaza and is giving me alot of memories from inkopolis square bc its when I started playing splatoon
