Actually this is very useful. What I like most about your videos is they are short, to the point and you focus on just a few bushcraft items for people to practice on.
WoW! Thank You! Someone else already said it but I have to agree. Short, focused and not only easy to understand but nearly impossible to forget! You take what is probably the result of countless hours of trial and error experience and condense it into an easy to follow, simple set of common sense instructions. I particularly like the way you cut to the core principles because I find I can take that little nugget and apply it to such an unbelievably broad range of materials and situations. Thank You again for the work and care you clearly put into every upload.
Excellent process and description. This was exactly how we handled it with our wooden Trapper Nelson frames using the old Army tent halves. Eventually we dropped pack weight by using plastic drop cloths for tarps-perfect for the PNW winter wet! Thanks for bringing this to mind. We replaced the wooden Trapper Nelson's with aluminum skylines in the late 60s, I've still got mine and it might be a fun surprise to do some miles in there PCT next summer kitted out like this 😂
One thing I have always loved about Dan is that all his videos r just some way different to all the other bushcrafters shit, I always try an watch bushcraft instructors videos as there is so much more knowledge put into every single detail instead of these weekend bushcrafts but Dan ur a fucking legend mate big up from Liverpool uk
Short and to the point that's it right there short and to the point. You make things so simple to understand no wonder you're a teacher or instructor whichever you want to be called. This is the one I was waiting for I already had a good idea of the way I was going to do it and you gave me a few more tips. Thanks so much now I have to drill this into my grandson's head. Thanks for the video Dan you always do a good job. Stay vigilant!
Consider a “diamond O” hitch for securing a pack to a frame. And, maybe a pair of prussic knots in the bottom 2/3rds of the uprights for lashing on large or irregularly shaped loads. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
Sweet! And that's how you do it and do it right ladies and gentlemen. Excellent setup! I can't wait, can not wait, can't frigging wait to get one of those new packs!! And flannels? I'll never buy a flannel from anywhere else now, hope there's a red and black color coming out. My wife didn't mind dropping me off at the school she probably wanted me to stay 😄 🤣..she knows I cant wait to get back there though. Awesome video as always brother 👍 💯
i am going out solo for 7 nights on sunday and have been thinking about doing this, but will be using existing LK35 frame i have - one thing i am thinking about doing which other might like isput the contents of pack in a black bag (drum liner etc) and then lay that on the blanket before i start the folding - main reason is that if i get to my basecamp and it is raining then while i put the tarp up, everthing will still be dry in the bag and then during the week i am sure i will then use the black bag for multiple things
Good info- I just recently made a poplar ladder pack frame and am going to get my canvas tarp out and try this out. The wood pieces that I used for my frame are a little bigger, so I hope it works. Thanks for the videos and instruction. Be safe out there-
This would do great on the old 80s back frame I have Love the feel of the pack but am not sure how to change the straps and include chest buckles and side pouches to it Enjoy your videos Blessings
Serious inquiry here; Having watched Many bushcraft videos about packing gear, I've noticed nobody ever seems to have one important feature of clothing. They all seem to lack pockets. No shirt pockets, no pants pockets. I find it really hard to believe, honestly. I myself keep several items in my pockets when I'm out in the woods. Some items are too important or needed too often for all that packing and unpacking baloney. Question being, why this seeming oversight by so many teachers? PS, I'm asking the person who made the video, not all you random nobodies who think every comment or question is meant for you.
I kind of want to try packing like this on my Alice frame. However, I dont have a quality tarp, just sil-nylon tarps. Also, my pack is set up in a tried and true for upcoming camping trip, and wouldnt be ideal to have a gear failure with an untested setup
Two questions. 1. If your using a gum blanket as well, do you lay it flat with the tarp of fold it in with the wool blanket? 2. Is it possible to have a flap on the outside (I saw yours facing towards the frame) so you could add any other or forgotten items like a normal pack?
Its weird that about a month ago i thought about doing something similar but more bed roll set up and no frame and i have seen about 5 videos on making a pack frame pop up on my feed ect
Might be worth mentioning besides spreading out the bulk of your gear spread out the weight even as well, you never want one side of your pack heavier than the other
Or you can call your husband into the living room and show HIM how to set this up! ;) I mean, hey Dan, you definitely have some femaie bushcrafters here! ♥😉
Thanks for the video! Just a curiosity: in many videos I see putting the compass in pouches containing other metal objects (spoons, saw, etc.), doesn't this demagnetize the compass? Thank you
If I got the concept of a compass right, it is not magnetic at all. It uses the magnetic field of the earth. So I think, technically it can´t be demagnitized, because it has never been magnetized. (Sorry if my there are mistakes in my English, I´m not a native speaker).
Thanks for the answer😃, but I know that the needle is magnetized, in fact when using the compass you have to be careful not to have metal objects nearby. Thank you
Dan you’re a good teacher. Then reach into your pocket for customized shoulder straps. Maybe just tie this to a golf cart or a 4X4 RV. 😕 Or, just buy an Army duffle bag, throw it in the back of your truck with your other camping gear.
How come nobody puts the soft side towards their back? Like a pillow. The frame still supports the weight, and It's warmer and way more comfortable. You can fold it so a dry side is on your back. Jus sayin
Actually this is very useful. What I like most about your videos is they are short, to the point and you focus on just a few bushcraft items for people to practice on.
Thank You for another great video. Just FYI…I am the wife. LOL My husband rolls his eyes at my bushcraft supplies and knowledge.

Another great video. Thanks. I never really thought about how low profile this pack out would be. no wasted fabric.
Man, this is a slick look.
Great video! This is really helpful in showing how a pack frame works & letting folks believe that they can get out and do this.
great video Dan! Thanks for the tip about the aluminium frame, I still have one from the older days😂. All the best from Austria!!!🤠👍🍻🔥
Wife and I love your videos. Thank you!
Good video Dan, Mors would be happy. 🙌
Thanks!
Great video with an interesting and practical example of an improvised pack!

Always entertaining and informative. Thank you very much.

If you pack 2 black bags. You can use 1 on each leg that way you will be able to cross streams and rivers. So long as they are not 2 deep
Excellent video.
Fantastic video

RUclips transcoding delay. Refresh and it works
A tall strong man who is good at teaching and kind hearted and knows how to bushcraft, what more would a woman want ? ;)
You can never obsess too much about how to pack & schlepp all your stuff around😂my husband always packs at the last 5 minutes- drives me crazy😬
Very nice
Thanks Dan
What do you use for straps? And how would you attach them?
Awesome video, Thanks Dan.
Awesome information. Thanks.
That is one of the coolest packs!!!! Nicely done man!!!!!😁😁😁😁
Its why my go to pack is an LC1 or LC2 ALICE.
This would do great on the old 80s back frame I have
Love the feel of the pack but am not sure how to change the straps and include chest buckles and side pouches to it
Enjoy your videos
Blessings
Man, your paracord is all frayed out. Lol 😂 Nice load out. 👍
Great video! Solid information and easy to understand. Now, what about the pack straps?

Excellent technique.
This was quire useful to me 🤠
thanks mister
That's ace stuff loved watching

Cool! Helpful information, and a joke at the end.
Really like the DIY videos
Awesome but how or what do you do for shoulder straps ???
Wish that was included 🤔
Oh never mind another video I see 🙄
You know that you can melt the ends of your parcord, lol. Great information and video thank you......
Thanks. I just bought a giant cheap backpack off ebay and I'm not excited about it. I really need to go more basic and bushcrafty!
Said that to my ol lady and her response was "thank God." 😳
Its weird that about a month ago i thought about doing something similar but more bed roll set up and no frame and i have seen about 5 videos on making a pack frame pop up on my feed ect
Love your tutorials 👍 keep em coming
I like that , I have BOBS all over but that folding method will definitely come in handy , thanks cracker.
Thanks for the great video
Still waiting to be let back into the house after taking over the living room 😉
Might be worth mentioning besides spreading out the bulk of your gear spread out the weight even as well, you never want one side of your pack heavier than the other

I really like that vid many thanks.
Be blessed
We gotter packed!
How do you carry it?
Earlier video shows Dan creating straps out of webbing and also how to build the frame. Top shelf stuff!
Great info, as always! Thanks! :)
Very clever
Very cool
Can my wife throw me out of the living room?
Haha. Just kidding. Neat video!
1:16 - whipsnake!
Excellent! Thankee!
TMNT FOREVER DUDES AND DUDETTE'S!
I may have missed it in another video or something but how do you wear this?
Why is the middle "bar" so close to the top, rather than being centered, and on the inside of the frame?
Thanks for the video! Just a curiosity: in many videos I see putting the compass in pouches containing other metal objects (spoons, saw, etc.), doesn't this demagnetize the compass? Thank you

DONT EVER STOP DOING THIS STUFF ...i say this in caps cos DON'T ☺

Fyi those are cross bars not uprights you have to fold the blanket to the width of in the second step.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Good.
How do you carry it?
OMG ! Frayed ends on your cordage ! LMAO
Sounds great but an oil soaked tarp looks really heavy
👍
Pretty damn sweet

Hassle?
'throw the wife out of the living room', pretty brave talk from a man that never met my wife! hahaha.
Where are the straps of the backpack? Good video otherwise!
Something is wrong with the audio file 😅
Good stuff :)
With the sound you dont have audio first. You have to click the video away and than click on it aigain
🙂👍
@0:52 🤣
It’s been 3 days and my wife hasn’t let me come home yet. I’m out of chicken nuggets. What do I do? 🆘
'Tarp Envy' anyone? Blue just dont look the same.
10/10
🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
You know you can melt the ends of the para cord right? Haha jokes.
Hey Dan, color me stupid. I think I’m gonna need some way to carry it on my shoulders?
Yeah stay in the woods and away from the Wife
