    Actually this is very useful. What I like most about your videos is they are short, to the point and you focus on just a few bushcraft items for people to practice on.

    WoW! Thank You! Someone else already said it but I have to agree. Short, focused and not only easy to understand but nearly impossible to forget! You take what is probably the result of countless hours of trial and error experience and condense it into an easy to follow, simple set of common sense instructions. I particularly like the way you cut to the core principles because I find I can take that little nugget and apply it to such an unbelievably broad range of materials and situations. Thank You again for the work and care you clearly put into every upload.

    Excellent process and description. This was exactly how we handled it with our wooden Trapper Nelson frames using the old Army tent halves. Eventually we dropped pack weight by using plastic drop cloths for tarps-perfect for the PNW winter wet! Thanks for bringing this to mind.
    We replaced the wooden Trapper Nelson's with aluminum skylines in the late 60s, I've still got mine and it might be a fun surprise to do some miles in there PCT next summer kitted out like this 😂

    Short and to the point that's it right there short and to the point. You make things so simple to understand no wonder you're a teacher or instructor whichever you want to be called. This is the one I was waiting for I already had a good idea of the way I was going to do it and you gave me a few more tips. Thanks so much now I have to drill this into my grandson's head. Thanks for the video Dan you always do a good job. Stay vigilant!

    Consider a “diamond O” hitch for securing a pack to a frame. And, maybe a pair of prussic knots in the bottom 2/3rds of the uprights for lashing on large or irregularly shaped loads.

    i am going out solo for 7 nights on sunday and have been thinking about doing this, but will be using existing LK35 frame i have - one thing i am thinking about doing which other might like isput the contents of pack in a black bag (drum liner etc) and then lay that on the blanket before i start the folding - main reason is that if i get to my basecamp and it is raining then while i put the tarp up, everthing will still be dry in the bag and then during the week i am sure i will then use the black bag for multiple things

    • @markirish7599
      @markirish7599 Год назад

      If you pack 2 black bags. You can use 1 on each leg that way you will be able to cross streams and rivers. So long as they are not 2 deep

  • @ObsoletePencil

    Serious inquiry here; Having watched Many bushcraft videos about packing gear, I've noticed nobody ever seems to have one important feature of clothing. They all seem to lack pockets. No shirt pockets, no pants pockets. I find it really hard to believe, honestly.
    I myself keep several items in my pockets when I'm out in the woods. Some items are too important or needed too often for all that packing and unpacking baloney.
    Question being, why this seeming oversight by so many teachers?
    PS, I'm asking the person who made the video, not all you random nobodies who think every comment or question is meant for you.

    I kind of want to try packing like this on my Alice frame. However, I dont have a quality tarp, just sil-nylon tarps. Also, my pack is set up in a tried and true for upcoming camping trip, and wouldnt be ideal to have a gear failure with an untested setup

  • @olumsezbey
    @olumsezbey 2 года назад +2

    Two questions.
    1. If your using a gum blanket as well, do you lay it flat with the tarp of fold it in with the wool blanket?
    2. Is it possible to have a flap on the outside (I saw yours facing towards the frame) so you could add any other or forgotten items like a normal pack?

    Thanks for the video! Just a curiosity: in many videos I see putting the compass in pouches containing other metal objects (spoons, saw, etc.), doesn't this demagnetize the compass? Thank you

    • @alexveltens9284
      @alexveltens9284 2 года назад +1

      If I got the concept of a compass right, it is not magnetic at all. It uses the magnetic field of the earth. So I think, technically it can´t be demagnitized, because it has never been magnetized. (Sorry if my there are mistakes in my English, I´m not a native speaker).

    • @francescachiappa
      @francescachiappa 2 года назад +1

      Thanks for the answer😃, but I know that the needle is magnetized, in fact when using the compass you have to be careful not to have metal objects nearby. Thank you
