It is so hard to believe that Dusty and even the announcers thought the Esper deck was favoured. Craig's deck has so many main-board anti-control tools, it is crazy. I guess people under-estimated Flash Creatures? Certainly Voice was not underestimated.
I concur. In addition, I think that Dusty Ochoa is one of those serious players because once Craig sack just for style points, Dusty's like "it can't be countered." No duh, Smartass.
Craig seems a real nice guy, and I was happy he won for many reasons, I play a very similar deck with him so when I saw his deck I "had" to support him. But besides that I liked the way he pointed out his team work when interviewed and I really enjoyed his post win article on tcg player. Good luck in the future Craig!
Oh, yeah that makes sense. I didn't even look at his +1, I assumed it was some sort of draw haha. This is random, but what do you think about putting a Bonfire of the Damned in a Naya midrange?
@Niall to. Me it looked like he was running both. With the three color deck and greedy cards like Revelation, those are more beneficial than the shocks in orzhov. The dimir gate helped give hI'm the needed black and blue. See what I'm saying
When sphinx's revelation gets played if someone skullcracks do the cards still get drawn? Im pretty sure they do but I wanna be 100% sure. Thx in advance. Oh also if verdict gets played and Voice is out does the voice still get a 1/1 token at the end? Once again im pretty sure it does but I wanna be 100%.
yes this is obviously drafted, you can see what they were going for, make sure that they get every rare that everyone opened and made sure that those rares match their decks, and not to mention to pick atleast 12 shock lands that they opened in the packs
One of my favorite games was me playing White Weenie with 2 Judge's Familiar, my opponent Verdicts, I sac one bird, he tanks for a bit, pays the one. So I sac the other, he immediately pays, and as he's putting the Verdict in his graveyard "Ugh I suck soooo bad"
The supreme Verdict at about 3:50, why did the rest of Wescoe's creatures get destroyed? Unless I'm mistaken, Ochoa only had 4 mana open to cast the Verdict, he couldn't have paid the extra 1 to make sure it wasn't countered.
Alejandro Matos Anguis I played G/W last format and actually thought Esper was a fairly good match up. Out of curiosity, what are you playing during Theros/Khans?
His third pro tour, actually. Dusty is the best player in Arizona, he just doesn't have a very deep base of players to test formats with. The fact that he managed a PT top 8 without a top-notch testing team like Channel Fireball or SCG is in and of itself pretty fantastic.
Yeah you have to think of it from his view, he had no idea what was in his had except that he knew he could get rid of more. No use in wasting a Verdict if he's just gonna drop more creatures afterwards
o-ring/detention sphere you it doesnt get a token but it can still come back if the enchantment is destroyed and with pillar of flame the creature dies then is exiled, giving a token
Jace starts at 4 loyalty and the +1 ability gives opponent's creatures -1/-0 until your next turn so the 2/2, 3/3, and 2/1 are actually just a 1/2, 2/3, and 1/1 which comes to 4 and Jace was at 5 (5-4=1)
The token comes from Voice of Resurgence. In addition to making a token whenever someone casts a spell on your turn, you ALSO get a token whenever Voice dies. As the commentator said, it's really an unfair card. >.
You are wrong, the card specifically states "If a creature dealt damage this way WOULD die this turn, exile it INSTEAD. For a creature to actually die it must go to the graveyard, but with pillar of flame it gets exiled instead. If you don't trust me, go on google and search "Voice of Resurgence vs. Pillar Flame."
It wasn't a play mistake. It was a calculated risk that Ochoa was doing to try and make wescoe commit more to the board then what was there. Overall it ended up being the wrong play but it was still the better option to wait.
He is running shocks AND gates. Usuall people would run the older dual lands as well, But this was a block match. ONLY card from RtR, GC, and DM could be used. So only 4 shock lands isn't quite enough.
It appeared that he didn't think about verdict being uncounterable. Because there was a pause, and you hear a judge say something. So I think he just forgot. The announcers making a joke about it doesn't automatically mean Wesoe was joking.
so one -sided! such an amazing game, i know it was a bad match up but with a deck a good as ochoa'sand all is experience I thought it was going to get to the 4th game
Jace the Mind Sculptor, yes, but Liliana of the Veil was not good in the Standard Constructed format she was legal in, due to her basically doing nothing vs. Snapcaster Mage and many other hugely popular maindeck cards, and Elspeth, while very strong and played due to her field-building, was/is honestly an underpowered planeswalker, especially with the amount of permanent removal and planeswalker hate in Alara block constructed.
I'm no pro either, but the main reason I hold up a wrath is to get more value out of it. I'm guessing Ochoa was hoping Wescoe would tap out playing creatures and thought that the five life was worth the card advantage. As it turns out, he was a bit too greedy and lost the gamble.
I'm no master or anything, but that play mistake at 23:00 was unfathomable. Tapped out Selesnya player with Experiment and Conclave token on the board. =/= Verdict!? Lets just open up his ability to cast a Rootborn/Advent/Seles Charm.. next turn after he gets a free 5 damage in. I'm just so confused lol. Fatigue is the only possible answer.
He played down a Hallowed Fountain. He took 2 life in order to play it untapped. The life counter scoreboard went from 4 to 2 in the few seconds after he played it.
He jokingly sacrificed his judge's familiar to attempt to counter supreme verdict. Just because a spell can't be countered doesn't mean it can't be targeted by spells or abilities that would counter the spell. It only means that the counterspell or ability won't do anything.
Lolz at the sacking Judge's Familiar. I feel bad for Dusty though, he underestimated just how aggro Selesnya is now. Selesnya is the exact counter to control now, and I love it.
In the finals I think "First time" stops being an excuse. He did well, better than I've done obviously, but it was still totally wrong and he should have played better.
I've seen people let their Smiters be countered before now, and discard them to Lilis and not put them on the battlefield. Half of these cards are good enough for Standard without the kickers.
Craig Wescoe is in the pro tour finals and the match only lasted 30 min. Lol
25 minutes*
Rootborn Defenses is baically a 3/3 Mystic Snake. Brilliant.
I wonder if LSV delibrately comes in 9th place so he can join in on the commentary.
Jaycee Hampton except its not being smartass, ive gotten people thoughtsiezing while they had a chaalice on 1
tbf I have no idea why Dusty kept the hands he did
Craig seems a real nice guy, and I was happy he won for many reasons, I play a very similar deck with him so when I saw his deck I "had" to support him. But besides that I liked the way he pointed out his team work when interviewed and I really enjoyed his post win article on tcg player. Good luck in the future Craig!
My favourite pro tour final of all times!
Yeah, it's Return to Ravnica block constructed - meaning cards from Return to Ravnica, Gatecrash and Dragon's Maze
It's block constructed (only cards for Return to Ravinca, Gatecrash and Dragon's Maze)
Oh, yeah that makes sense. I didn't even look at his +1, I assumed it was some sort of draw haha. This is random, but what do you think about putting a Bonfire of the Damned in a Naya midrange?
It's Block Constructed. Only cards from RTR, GTC and DGM are allowed
Well it was game number three between them, how much more information did he need?..
Gtc pro tour final video was around 2 hours long if I recall corectly. This is only half an hour... GO Voice of Resurgence!
@Niall to. Me it looked like he was running both. With the three color deck and greedy cards like Revelation, those are more beneficial than the shocks in orzhov. The dimir gate helped give hI'm the needed black and blue. See what I'm saying
What do you mean? You can easily pillar of flame it or even o-ring it.
this is to celebrate the full release of this block and to give players a look what the game will be like in september, when it rotates to this
is Craig has missed evolve trigger when he cast selesnya charm or he just doesn't care for that time because of he felt he win anyway?
What is Wescoes deck called? I like green and want to get into the game.
I thought Supreme Verdict couldn't be countered...? What happened there on Game 1?
This looks like block constructed, is there any reason they aren't playing normal standard?
When sphinx's revelation gets played if someone skullcracks do the cards still get drawn? Im pretty sure they do but I wanna be 100% sure. Thx in advance. Oh also if verdict gets played and Voice is out does the voice still get a 1/1 token at the end? Once again im pretty sure it does but I wanna be 100%.
Nosfeast Yes, if you get Skullcracked in response, you will be dealt three damage, but will draw cards. Get Verdicted and you still get the 1/1 token.
They aren't playing normal standard because the Pro Tour at the end of the set rotation is block usually.
A Pro Tour Finals match that isn't above an hour? What is this maddness?
This is the Same match-up as @2015 Pro-Tour
Kinda sure
Because in block constructed you don't have access to the core set check lands.
That and he was in the finals of a Pro Tour. Surely he knows what cards are in the format.
On a previous video, this guy was asking "Why didn't he counter Abrupt Decay?". I don't think he has any idea what's going on.
Is this on a tv channel?
Is this a custom deck match or a legecy match?
yes this is obviously drafted, you can see what they were going for, make sure that they get every rare that everyone opened and made sure that those rares match their decks, and not to mention to pick atleast 12 shock lands that they opened in the packs

Cause Veredict cant be countered
How did the Jace only do down to one if he swung all out with the voice (2/2) centaur (3/3) and the Dryad (2/1)?
What kind of sleeves does craig wescoe have ?
Well seeing as how it runs around 23 lands, I could see you having excess to use on it, it's a great removal card for that spash of red in Naya MR
You are the person the internet makes fun of.
I LOVE SELESNYA!!!!!
Hehe in generel i think this showed really just how powerful a deck can be if devoted to guild and played out right :D
I have ever played selesnya but espers always defeat me. Wescoe showed me that to win a match against an esper deck is posible :')
Alejandro Matos Anguis I played G/W last format and actually thought Esper was a fairly good match up. Out of curiosity, what are you playing during Theros/Khans?
***** I am not playing standard at the moment. I am still crying in my house because of the rotation D':
It was also his first pro tour
Was this standard or block constructed
Block
What are you talking about if there's no voice of resurgence in play I'm going to play instant on their turn all day.
yeah its limited, they just got really really really good pools.
ever heard of BLOCK constructed?
anyone able to tell me where i can find Ochoa's decklist?
What sleeves are they using?
It would matter because an instant on Wescoe's turn would've created the token before the spell resolved.
Como se nota que no escribes con tu nombre, Asier Rueda Hernández... :D
He casted Devour Flesh in response to Wescoe casting Voice. So, Voice wasn't on the field for his effect to kick off, technically.
His third pro tour, actually. Dusty is the best player in Arizona, he just doesn't have a very deep base of players to test formats with. The fact that he managed a PT top 8 without a top-notch testing team like Channel Fireball or SCG is in and of itself pretty fantastic.
so everyone should run a control deck?
Ever heard of Block?
Yeah you have to think of it from his view, he had no idea what was in his had except that he knew he could get rid of more. No use in wasting a Verdict if he's just gonna drop more creatures afterwards
gotta love the huge amount of token production!!!
supreme verdict cant be countered. why does that work in the beggining?
Kid you not, this is the second time I've forgotten about the uncounterable cycle in RUclips ProTour videos. My bad.
its is a construted T2 ?
o-ring/detention sphere you it doesnt get a token but it can still come back if the enchantment is destroyed and with pillar of flame the creature dies then is exiled, giving a token
Jace starts at 4 loyalty and the +1 ability gives opponent's creatures -1/-0 until your next turn so the 2/2, 3/3, and 2/1 are actually just a 1/2, 2/3, and 1/1 which comes to 4 and Jace was at 5 (5-4=1)
block constructed. It's not quite standard. Only GTR DGM and RTR allowed.
LSV commentary is amazing
Amazing... also, how good is LSV on the panel.
The token comes from Voice of Resurgence. In addition to making a token whenever someone casts a spell on your turn, you ALSO get a token whenever Voice dies.
As the commentator said, it's really an unfair card. >.
Read the description.
It's block constructed, which means only cards from rtr gatecrash and dm. So you won't be seeing the good stuff from innistrad and core.
yes the cards will be drawn
Block constructed. Only cards found in RTR, GTC and DGM are legal.
It's block constructed, which is why you only see RTR GTC and DRG cards.
i think it only works on attacking creature, so it has to be done on their turn
It wasn't a play mistake. It was a calculated risk that Ochoa was doing to try and make wescoe commit more to the board then what was there. Overall it ended up being the wrong play but it was still the better option to wait.
11:30 wouldn't craig get an elemental token? cause dusty casted a spell in his turn?
He is running shocks AND gates. Usuall people would run the older dual lands as well, But this was a block match. ONLY card from RtR, GC, and DM could be used. So only 4 shock lands isn't quite enough.
Liliana of the Veil, Jace the Mind Sculptor, AND Elspeth Knight-Errant ALL beg to differ bro.
It appeared that he didn't think about verdict being uncounterable. Because there was a pause, and you hear a judge say something. So I think he just forgot. The announcers making a joke about it doesn't automatically mean Wesoe was joking.
16:04 from where does that token comes from?
Voice of Resurgence dying
so one -sided! such an amazing game, i know it was a bad match up but with a deck a good as ochoa'sand all is experience I thought it was going to get to the 4th game
Charm only works on an attacking or blocking creature
Why did everyone use gates for this pro tour
A) No.
B) In Spanish it would be "La mejor carta de Planeswalker es "Jace, perito de la memoria".
C) Peace out.
Why would he ever do it on your turn when he has the option to do it on his?
I like Craig Wescoe. He seems a nice guy.
Where the hell am I....?
Ssssssoooooooooo glad I have my playset of voices :)
30 min long video....you can easly guess the winner...
just realized that's the guy who ran the store I played at in Tuscon for a summer right on Dusty
He played down a Hallowed Fountain. He took 2 life in order to play it untapped. The life counter scoreboard went from 4 to 2 in the few seconds after he played it.
Estos duelos de vanguard me encantan
Craig Wescoe for Hall of Fame!!!
No....it doesnt matter regardless. You wouldnt cast it on opposing turns ANYWAYS. Lets think a little before we post.
Yep
its return to ravnica block constructed
Yes they do.
about time guys
Me seeing the match is only 30 minutes long
He jokingly sacrificed his judge's familiar to attempt to counter supreme verdict.
Just because a spell can't be countered doesn't mean it can't be targeted by spells or abilities that would counter the spell. It only means that the counterspell or ability won't do anything.
triple negative?
Lolz at the sacking Judge's Familiar. I feel bad for Dusty though, he underestimated just how aggro Selesnya is now. Selesnya is the exact counter to control now, and I love it.

Why's Ochoa running gates. Aren't shocks better?
