It is dismaying to read the deeply visceral hatred in many of the comments here - the more so because they are from people who call themselves Christians. Have some perspective: take heart, it is I, do not be afraid.
+AntPDC Wake up and take a cold shower. Saintliness is not dumbness. I'm Orthodox but I kind of agree with the flak this denomination gets. They marry gay people and care more about liberal progressive politics than Tradition of the Apostles. Episcopalianism in USA is almost dead and Anglican show up rate is abyssmal. Something 9%. A heavy price to pay for gay sex, women priests, Qur'an readings in churches, etc. etc.
>deeply visceral hatred >people who call themselves Christians. >Have some perspective: take heart, it is I, do not be afraid. Why do you think that people who have legitimate issues & criticisms with non-biblical and non-traditional behavior by Anglicanism and this Primate are "visceral" and ought to be characterized as "hatred"? There is no question that Anglicanism has changed and departed from many of the tenets it once held - shouldn't such change be questioned? Or is only orthodoxy to be questioned? I for one feel these departures are mistakes and are errors. My expression of same isn't "hatred" - or even "deeply visceral"; it is an intellectual statement as a result of questioning the wisdom of these acts and changes. Saying that something is wrong or that one thinks some change or position is an error, and expressing dismay at it is NOT the same thing as "hatred." Although, accusing us of "deeply visceral hatred" is a sure-fire way of dismissing us not taking our objections seriously, or honestly. Just because someone says "...it is I...", claiming to be Jesus, doesn't mean they are Jesus, or even speak in his name. Have some perspective: Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
As a Dutch (Reformed) Protestant, I congratulate the Anglican Communion and I wish the new Archbishop and the Church of England the blessing of our God almighty. May this Church be blessed and happy in Christ.

I'm no expert on this, but "The Anglican Journal"reports: "Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is always invited to the enthronement of a new Archbishop of Canterbury. She does not attend, however, and instead sends a member of the Royal Family in her place. “She’s invited, but it’s really the Archbishop’s day,” explained the Dean of Canterbury Robert Willis, when asked why the Queen does not attend the historic event"". It's understandable that the Queen (as Sovereign and Defender of the Faith) doesn't attend enthronements because the focus would move away from the Archbishop to the Monarch, and thus become a distraction from proceedings which are essentially religious, not secular. As can be seen in this video, on this occasion the Queen was represented by the Prince of Wales, as heir to the throne. Best wishes.

While in my opinion, it is a pity that the Church of England is no longer in complete communion either with the Orthodox Church of Constantinople or with the See of Rome, I am happy to see that they continue the old customs and traditions found in the music and the liturgical celebrations in their churches and commend them for it; something that many have found rather lacking in the majority of Roman Catholic churches (particularly in North America), which seems to have forgotten so much of its rich heritage. I also hope that as the servant of Christ, the the Archbishop of Canterbury, along with those in communion with him will continue to commit themselves to the true service of the poorest of the poor and the oppressed throughout the world (including animals).
The old customs are not continued.....prior to the Protestant Reformation the Archbishop of Caterbury would have been anointed with chrism and a High Mass would have been celebrated.
Thanks for uploading this to RUclips and shame that I completely forgot about the enthronement of new Archbishop of Canterbury on 21 Mar after big fireworks in Rome in the name of St. Francis completely wiped clean my memory. Well, dispute between Rome and Anglican is a minor argument when we all forget about the ancient churches of Jerusalem, Antioch, Alexandria, and Constantinople who once stood firmly next to Rome. And Roman Empire is long gone.
Thank you Frasquito, and I heartily share your sentiments. At this Eastertide, I hope we all look beyond our respective traditions (or none) and reflect upon the simple truths: there is bad, and there is good, and the difference is readily plain for us all to see if we choose to look.
Although the entire ceremony is currently available via BBC iPlayer, copyright and TV-licensing reasons prevent its being made available outside the UK. In this particular case, one wonders why the rules couldn't have been relaxed in recognition of the fact that this event was of deep interest to the worldwide Anglican Communion. Perhaps in future the BBC and the Anglican Church might agree on a more accessible approach to such content, judging by the interest expressed here. Warm wishes.
I would hope that you check with them -- since they live-streamed the whole thing, but at least last I checked, did not archive it anywhere accessible. Perhaps you could do another post of just the music (since that is obviously a passion of yours, even if the choices for this service aren't).
In Christ there is no East or West, In Him no South or North; But one great fellowship of love Throughout the whole wide earth In Christ now meet both East and West, In Him meet North and South; All Christly souls are one in Him Throughout the whole wide earth. oh ... and there is also no condemnation for all who are in Christ .. FYI.
Thank you.... God bless you.... I'm really happy by reading your positive comment ...that you see every one in Christ.... Some are haters of each because of separations in churches....
LOL. You know, Christ's entreaty to us all about loving one another has ever been a challenge - and it's easy to see why. Thank you for your Eastertide wishes, and I wish you and yours the same. The weather here stubbornly dissents!
--and it wasn't intended to be a concert! The pastor where I'm organist proposed that the congregation remain seated while I play the postlude, then maybe they'd applaud (the way they did in seminary). I pooh poohed that idea, believing that there's a difference between a mass and a concert. If I wanted to concertize, I'd schedule a concert and maybe make some money taking it on the road!

In the context of an occasion such as this, not only do you disrespect your former church and the 80 million Christians who belong to it, but you embarrass the one you currently belong to by your absence of Christian fellowship and simple good manners. This is the year 2013: you might find it helpful to talk to your priest or bishop about the meaning of "ecumenism" and why it is eg that the Anglican and Roman Catholic Churches actively strive to achieve it, despite obstacles. Best wishes.
History will be made on Sunday when our new Bishop will be knocking on the doors of the Cathedral Church of St Mark as she will be seated and investitured as the 12th Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Utah
Thanks Bosco. Well, I'm no copyright expert by any means, but in terms of re-broadcasting content, it's to do with the BBC being funded by UK TV license-payers, and other copyright reasons. I do sympathise with your point of view, especially in relation to this kind of programme. Perhaps someone more qualified than I could elucidate?
How can the term 'enthronement' apply to a Christian minister? Paul asked "Have begun ruling as kings before us?" 1 Cor 4:8. They sit on thrones, live in 'palaces,' have servants.,wear distinctive robes e.t.c. Where in the gospels is this justified?
Also, why at the end of prayers, they say "ah-men" instead of "ey-men" in those churches like the Anglican church, Methodist church, Presbyterian church, Lutheran church, and other Mainline Protestant churches? Just to ask.... Thanks.
It's mostly only Americans and Irish Protestants who pronounce amen "ey-men". Not sure why; something to do I think with the Great Vowel Shift. I'm sure some linguistics expert could enlighten us all.
The original High Atlar would heve been destroyed at the reformation as was the shrine of Thomas A'Becket. Free standing altars were introduced by the protestants and later in catholic churches as part of the reforms of Vatican II.
I am grateful, if disappointed, by your comment. As to the notion of "apostolic succession", and other man-made sillinesses however, I ask: would Christ himself have paid even a millisecond of attention? As a matter of perspective, and even if you are correct (there's much argument here) it's a minuscule, irrelevant fragment of trivia when compared with the massive challenges, as Christians, we must all focus upon today together. My best wishes to you and your family.
Your comment speaks volumes, thank you. Christianity is a pretty simple concept for just about anyone to accept and understand, even as a basic moral compass. In-fighting among Christians about human-made sillinesses is the absolute antithesis of Jesus Christ's purpose, here on Earth. You know this, of course.
Interesting video. I do hope in the reunification of Anglicanism and Rome. Do you mind explaining the ritual a bit? Why did he hit with his crosier the door 3 times to be opened?
As I understand it, it is a bit of historical mummery. At the great west door of the cathedral, he is the Archbishop-elect, and is asking permission to enter, as a courtesy, and to perpetuate the idea (to the faithful) that the church by then had any freedom in the matter. The reality is that he is "elected" by the Dean and Chapter of Canterbury Cathedral by command of the Sovereign. King Henry VIII's Reformation made the Church of England an "established" church, bound up by law in the civil polity of the Realm, under the Crown. Happy for others more knowledgeable than I to inform this thread!
AntPDC Thank you very much. Are you a clergyman or anglican youth member or something similar? I'm a Roman Catholic from Greece but have been living in England for 7 years since i was a teen. Recently returned but i still got lovely memories from the Anglican church.
Grboy85 Thank you Grboy85. I am neither of those things - just a wobbly Christian, baptised and raised in the CofE. I must say I loved the times I have spent in Greece. My best wishes for 2015.
Dude that's quite random and offensive. The actual statistics show a lower percentage of paedophiles in the clergy compared to the other professions (teachers etc). You're an Anglican don't be brainwashed by atheistic media and propaganda. All churches will united one day it is their official goal there is no other way.
I would dearly love to see the whole church united. I am not content to be only united with rome but the one true church founded on pentacaust, anything less is simply not good enough.
@Michael John Dennis Likewise Michael. My sister-in-law, a Roman Catholic, had her children baptised in Anglican church. The church in question is of the Anglo-Catholic tradition in the Church of England it has to be said!
may God richly use you to propagate the gospel of jesus in all areas of the earth i believe their will be revival in the body of christ and anglican church will be on fire of the holy ghost
My question in the midst of all these exchanges would be......why does the Christian Church find itself in this situation? If there was union, there would be no need to have to repair damage done with 'ecumenism'
"for reasons of which we are all aware". I'm clearly not one of those "all". Why are we down in the colonies not able to watch a service which we are told was highly conscious of its significance for the whole Anglican Communion?
I love the Roman Church, and continously pray that she will someday be truly catholic and open her rails to all Christians. That said, I remain constantly offended and amazed at those brainwashed indivduals who make such comments about their fellow Christians. I suggest Eusebius, the Didache, and perhaps even the words of our Lord Himself to set one straight. Especially His definition of church: "For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst"
Especially His definition of church: "For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst" That is not the definition of the church.

I believe it was ++ Welby's innovation. I rather like it. And I wouldn't myself use the word "layperson" in this context because it is suggestive of lofty Pharisaical pride. Here, Archbishop Justin is being questioned by a member of his flock as their shepherd. I'm pretty sure that Jesus Christ himself would approve.
As shepherd of the laity as well as to the clergy, a bishop is answerable to both. In the Orthodox churches, the laity are asked in the consecration ceremony to give the patriarch permission to proceed. One dissenting voice - whether from another bishop, a priest, or a layperson - can be enough to railroad the entire proceedings at least until an investigation is completed.
...another symptom of these massive distractions is the continuation of the mediaeval idea of canonisation, along with the eye-wateringly phoney evidence of "miracles" adduced in support of this practice. In 2013, the people are no longer "sheep".
Enthronement? I thought that was only for the Queen or King? They are above the Archbishop and are mentioned in the Anglican maas. That is how they say it. Like 14 hundred yaars. The Church of England is an adjunct of the state, since the reformation.
+JLipnicki Bishop's throne (cathedra) is the seat of a bishop. It is a symbol of the bishop's teaching authority in the Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church, and in the Anglican Communion churches.
+Nova Critter Yes I know. But it's so prosaic, so dull, so banal. People want to see a glimpse of God here on earth, not a bunch of corporate churchmen in lounge suits, sitting in even more banal buildings...

The Church is built on Cephas (Peter). I’m Rome
Same here. Would love to watch the full video, if possible.
The QUESTIONS from the lady makes a lot of meaning now that the Archbishop is enchanted by LGBTQI
this is an awesome post .. would love to see it complete with all of the music
🎶🎶 Theres no business like show business, like no business i know - everything about it is appealing............🎶🎶
Yes we must, and set aside the worldly things which distract us.
What song is in 0:53?
Come down o love divine
In Christ there is no East or West,
In Him no South or North;
But one great fellowship of love
Throughout the whole wide earth
In Christ now meet both East and West,
In Him meet North and South;
All Christly souls are one in Him
Throughout the whole wide earth.
oh ... and there is also no condemnation for all who are in Christ .. FYI.
Jesus never said that
Thank you.... God bless you.... I'm really happy by reading your positive comment ...that you see every one in Christ.... Some are haters of each because of separations in churches....
I think the word you missed in your comment is "Christian". But I thank you for taking the trouble to comment, and my very best wishes.
3:00... OMG, this whole thing is just screaming NERD !!!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I would most indubitably invite the Archbishop to a D&D game night.
🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
Keep taking the tablets...
Thank you for your comment. Science knows much, but is as yet silent about even fundamental phenomena such as gravity; dark matter - so I'd not myself allow science to circumscribe my entire world view. Warm wishes.
thanks! Can't get this in Canada without spoofing the IP address. Of course, I would be willing to pay a few bucks to download this legitimately, sigh.
Congratulations Russell, and best wishes both to your new bishop and to your Diocese of Utah.
I agree - it's a pretty unsatisfactory state of affairs :(
Has the High Altar in Canterbury Cathedral always been free standing? I see no "old" altar or reredos.
Yes
The original High Atlar would heve been destroyed at the reformation as was the shrine of Thomas A'Becket. Free standing altars were introduced by the protestants and later in catholic churches as part of the reforms of Vatican II.
@@colinlavelle7806 but they still contain saints’ relics in the RC church altars
Do you have a copy that included the music as well. Thanks from Canada.
Why does he knocks just like the usher of the blackrod ?
It's a part of a very old tradition.
We must, however start from where we are
Please can you provide the URL where the BBC has "put up highlights"
Thank you, but I think the BBC would be very cross with me had I uploaded the entire service. Best wishes.
@Michael John Dennis Likewise Michael. My sister-in-law, a Roman Catholic, had her children baptised in Anglican church. The church in question is of the Anglo-Catholic tradition in the Church of England it has to be said!
AMEN🙏🏼❤️
Why would the BBC "be very cross with" you?
Link to the full unedited version?
may God richly use you to propagate the gospel of jesus in all areas of the earth i believe their will be revival in the body of christ and anglican church will be on fire of the holy ghost
not real priests
Especially His definition of church: "For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst"
That is not the definition of the church.
@@guynungagap4617 Then clearly He had no idea. I know of no other definitions. Is there or is there not a church?

The “notion” of apostolic succession is integral to the very soul of the Church. I would encourage you to read the Early Church Fathers
What is the origin and purpose of a new bishop being questioned by a layperson?
@@AntPDC Exactly!!!
ell said, indeed!
Notice his Masonic grip as he sits in the cathedra .
