Thank you! My truck was sitting at the mechanic's shop waiting to be fixed, but I had a doctor's appointment the next day and needed my truck. I looked at your video, bought the belt, fixed it myself in the mechanic's yard, and drove it home. Now I can go to my appointment tomorrow! Thanks again!
Starting looking around at what the source of my noise was after watching this video, and boom, as soon as I backed off the tensioner, my pulley falls right off. Thank you for posting this. Was able to tackle the job myself.
@@2carpros Super lucky man. I took a video and sent it to a buddy I used to work for ten years ago who's a Porsche mechanic and he told me right away to check the pulleys. I had a feeling something was really not right. I even backed my truck in the driveway, nose sticking out, just in case I needed to call a tow truck to get me to the shop lol. This is what it sounds like when your pulley is about to fly off: ruclips.net/video/Nb2ATspVtTc/видео.html
thanks man, had an issue with the tensioner to the point that it got destroyed. no power steering and a dead alrernator. was able to change it and change the belt. Lear from .y mistake, if you hear like a bunch of leafs blowing or squealing, get it checked out before total failure. luckily it happened when I got home.
Is there a sensor sir something on the black plate behind the radiator fan? My girlfriends belt broke and it looks like it pulled wires out of a sensor 2007 for expedition Eddie Bauer edition triton 5.4l
You ain’t lyin about that last step bein the most important. I put one on a Chevy 3500 Express at work (school bus) and either it was a little off or the tensioner was bad. We started it up, backed it out, and heard a squealing. That belt was screwed lol.
I recommend the complete kit. The shop recommended just a belt for my squeak. I declined. I just did the complete kit myself. One pulley almost frozen up, two more drag resistance. Now all free and correct. Once your in there, it's just as easy to replace them all. About a hundred bucks for Gates brand on Amazon complete kit, "Gates 90K-38274 Complete Serpentine Belt Drive Component Kit"
Thanks so much for the video, mine snapped yesterday and need to replace it. The belt snapping won't have cause any problems will it. Thanks for reply.
Such a helpful video, there are 3-4 videos on here, but this helped a lot . I was a tiny bit confused routing the belt, or overlycautious I had it F'd up. But it was quick, easy and saved a breakdown for sure as there were a lot of cracks.
On this model do you recommend idler pulley and new tensioner be replaced? 128k miles, 2nd owner, no noises but I dont have a full history on the truck.
Please help me. I’m a fairly strong guy I’m 6’6 280 and I CANNOT get the last loop over the alternator. I tried routing it the other way and doing the idler pulley last. Everyone else makes it look so easy. Did they sell me a belt that was too short?
@@2carpros I got it on. For whatever reason the tensioner wasn’t giving me enough slack. Only thing that worked for me was using brute force and shoving it under the idler pulley on the right without using the tensioner at all
Question. Over the last month my 05 F150 has had this problem where the wheel locks up and the dash says check gauges where the mileage is displayed. It was only happening when i would have the wheel turned all the way to one side and I would switch from drive to reverse. However today when I was pulling into a parking lot it happened in drive, I was able to pull off to the side and when I tried to stop the truck the brakes locked up in wouldn't push in. I managed to stop the truck and I let it sit for a bit, when i turned it back on everything was fine and I was able to get it home. Calling my local mechanic tomorrow but I wanted to ask if you had any ideas as to what the problem may be. I did a bit of research and some people were saying the serpentine belt might need to be replaced
Great video my only complaint is the video is edited out where you feed the drive pulley power steering guide pulleys etc. Would be nice to see how you route then without the edit. Great video and commentary though.
@@2carpros thanks for the reply I only asked because mines an 06 and the engine runs/sounds great unless I put shit gas in it. But, it's also had regulatory maintenance.
@@tyc5505 The theory is that Ford made the oil passages too narrow as well and if you use a junk paper oil filter like a Fram then it will cause debris to clog those oil passages. I don't know if I buy that theory. Mine had the tick when I bought it new from the dealer. They sales guy just told me they all do that. He showed me a few more and they did it as well. I'm not comfortable with it so I locked out the cam phasers with the livernois kit. It sounds fine now. I am planning to put in the Melling high volume oil pump as well. I love the truck but it certainly has a few flaws. Keep an eye on your passenger side exhaust manifold. Especially if you live in the North. That ones a doozy!
Yep. 5.4 3v Always click like that. The cam phasers and roller followers always make that sound due to age and poor design. Eventually they destroy the engine. Then it's new engine time! Thanks for watching!

Wasn't quite sure what I was looking at until I saw this vid. Thank you for the extra effort in showing, best instructional video I've seen for this!
Great instruction on the replacement of the belt, the part that is missing is to check for bearing noise after removal of the belt.
Noise and bearings
Saved me a lot of time with your tips. Especially the 1st part. The belt on my truck was broken into pieces. Thank you

My buddy’s serpentine belt just broke on his 2005 F150 5.4 , glad this video was here so I could replace it on the side of the road

Could be multiple issues but yes I'd start with the belt. It runs your power steering pump among other things.
so you dont need to change the tensiner pulley, like ford recommends
So what if it’s not holding tension?
Then you need a new tensioner. Thanks for watching!
Great video and good info!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
Shouldn’t I replace the tensioner as well?
If it is bad then yeah. But you don't need to replace it if you are just doing the belt. Thanks for watching Jaime.
Everything is fine except you forget to say that you have to go under the flywheel once you go underthe A/C

No problem 😊
Why did that motor sound like it was running a little rough??
It's a 5.4L Tri Valve. They often sound rough as heck due to Ford not putting a good enough oil pump in for the overhead cam. Thanks for watching!
