  • Our guest this week is none other than Chicago Bulls legend, Joakim Noah. This is about as meaty as a conversation gets with topics discussed from his childhood to prime Derek Rose and so much more. But first, JJ and Tommy talk about the early MVP race and how Giannis Antetokounmpo should be the favorite now. Then we immediately get to Joakim Noah. Topics include: Joakim's comments on Cleveland, Joakim's childhood and how he fell in love with basketball, how he landed at Florida and won two National Championships, why he returned to Florida after winning his first National Championship, his rookie season in Chicago where his team voted to suspend him, the nature of things leaking in a locker room like the Jordan Poole / Draymond Green situation, that classic 2009 playoff series between The Chicago Bulls and The Boston Celtics, what it was like playing with prime Derrick Rose, the hope Derrick to the city of Chicago, Joakim's recruitment of Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James, his thoughts on his ruthless competitiveness today, his time on The New York Knicks, fighting with his head coach Jeff Hornacek, getting another chance with The Memphis Grizzlies, finally retiring from basketball, the work he's doing now with The BAL (Basketball Africa League), Obama's 50th Birthday party game with Kobe Bryant and LeBron James and so much more.

I love to hear how he poured his heart out on the court and stories about those great Chicago teams. Good to see Joakim's in a good place, seems the bad blood with D-Wade and LeBron even is gone with the wind. I'll never forget those Bulls/Miami battles on primetime.
I think they missed an opportunity to talk about one of Derrick's most impressive plays. When they talked about a play that just stood out to them, of course the Dragic dunk had to be mentioned. But what about his transition lay-up, splitting between Wade and LeBron, finishing with his left hand with both of them in their athletic primes contesting the lay? He even landed on his feet while I think Wade stumbled and LeBron walked off frustrated. THAT was an impressive play also.

Over the years I've built up some killer Bulls teams in 2K franchise modes to make up for what could have been with Rose/Jo/Deng/Jimmy and Thibs. Even after Roses injury I think the Bulls could have done something building around Jimmy, had they kept Thibs and gotten rid of GarPax instead... Derrick could have even been a part of it if he had learned to accept a reduced role and continued to work on his game like he did on the Twolves with Thibs, he had a couple of 18PPG seasons on the Wolves, Pistons and Knicks. Jimmy has proven he can take a team deep in the playoffs with only a B- 2nd guy in Bam, with D.Rose running the next gen bench mob and if Jimmy & Thibs could convince a true 2nd star that would have been a far better path then the 2017-2023 Bulls went down. Maybe if Jimmy was still in Chicago the Bulls could land a PG13, Kyrie, etc just to name some guys who have moved multiple times since Thibs got fired and Jimmy got traded.

that two time champion Gator team doesn't get enough credit. I don't think there are many teams in the history of college basketball that could take them, they were as tough as anyone ever, the beat everyone in two tournaments by 10+ points.... & for 3 of them to give up being lottery picks, to comeback another year, and to win it again? Incredible.

Chicago guy. Watched him play so many times in Florida and I was ecstatic when my Bulls drafted him. Dude was legit. Couple injuries really stole an all-time player. Still a top player. But, shoulda been an all-time. Fan favorite back then and still.

I'll never forget seeing Joakim at a Shell gas station in Fort Lauderdale, FL, buying some things. I pull in, and there's this giant tour bus, and I think "who the hell is this?" It's Noah, I think Corey Brewer and one other cat. He was tall and the space was cramped. At the height of the Heat-Bulls rivalry too. Gave me the nod, and we kept it moving.
