The WV State Troopers is so f-up. What the WV Trooper needs is a woman in Charge that is the only way to get rid of the Good Boys. What the citizens have is male chauvinist that have been around since the 1980's and before that their daddy's were in charge. It took the State almost 4 years to do somewhat of the right steps. So they give her some money to shut her up. What they should have done is fire anyone that was involved.

Technically the settlement is paying the plaintiff and the plaintiff agrees there’s no “wrongdoing”, but just settles the issue. Even if they’re at fault, I’d personally just take the money.

One way or the other, taxes pay. There are two ways that government entities pay lawsuit settlements. The first is out of the general tax fund (state tax fund in this case, but county or city as appropriate to which entity was involved). The second is by having an insurance policy that covers lawsuits, but this money comes out of the budget for the entity, and of course the taxpayer tax rate is based on the cost of all of the state expenditures. States and large cities tend to self insure, paying directly out of their budgets, while the majority of counties and smaller towns by insurance. There have been some cases recently where small towns have had to disband their PDs because they could no longer afford the insurance. When this happens, they almost always make a deal with the county Sherrif to take over call service and patrol service. This is not cheap. typically, the Sheriff will charge them between $250,000 to $450,000 for every extra officer they need to handle the additional workload. In reality, for many small towns, it can be cheaper to do it this way, because when you add up all of the costs of running a PD and buying the insurance, it often costs no more to have the Sherriff do it. Cars, gas, radios, salaries, guns and ammo, management (Chief and officers) health insurance, retirement, social security taxes, and a thousand other expenses can add up to what the Sheriff would have to spend. So, the taxpayers pay in one way or another.

You don't change the culture by covering up for and promoting someone who intentionally retaliated against an employee due to a complaint. If the complaint had no merit then evaluate that issue, document it, and move on. But there is no need to issue 6 reprimands within 6 days towards the person who complained just to retaliate against them.

Four States Legislators have wised up and reversed Qualified Immunity for Career Criminal Police Officers, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Montana. Smart decisions because they are tired of the Tax Payers paying for LEO's cowardice ways. Qualified Immunity needs to be reversed in all states. Cops have gone rouge, they don't care if you sue because the tax payers pay for the suit, you and I. Not only do they not deserve Qualified Immunity but they should be required by law to submit to at least two psych evaluations a year paid from their own pockets to keep their job, done by Qualified Professionals not affiliated with any police association or union. This will weed out the bad cops. A northern California sheriff’s department stripped 47 deputies - 10% of the force - of their guns and arrest powers because they failed psychological exams, it was reported on September of 2022. They have become nothing but Career Criminals with badges! In John 10:10 we're told that Satan has come to steal, kill and destroy. I think he has recruited most of the LEO's, Judges and Prosecuting Attorney's in this Country! In some states an officer is only required to take 600 hours of training but to become a barber it take 4000 hours, 6.6 times longer. How right is that? The only sane conclusion you can come up with is that LEO's are stupid, corrupt and evil! Colorado has also made it mandatory for officers to report bad cops and not be involved in their cover ups but that still doesn't work. Police investigating police, how well has that worked? It hasn't and that's why Legislators need to reverse Qualified Immunity.

Cool looking cruisers! Sharp paint scheme. Like it.
Aside from that, if you're into it, there's an amazing fascination in government Internal Affairs investigations. You always know there will be a convoluted outcome.Or better described, "sick and twisted."
Just watching it formulate is a sickening work of art. Especially the very opening of each IA completion letter: "We understand that you were unhappy with...."
Each settlement should increase by 10% for condescending alone.

Look at it another way, maybe the LT didn't put up with her drama .There was a reason she was transferred. To the LTs command. Law enforcement is not a social club.

The only reason for settling for that amount is to limit the damage and scope of the complaint and save the department potential embarrassment and an even bigger payout later if it goes to trial and fur negative opinion in the public trust. If the department had nothing to hide and did nothing wrong, they would’ve vigorously defended the lawsuit and one, but they did not!

Sounds like what I went through as a RN. I had bosses that wanted me gone and was continually written up over nothing. Several times I recorded them with a phone in my pocket in multiple write ups. They often contradicted themselves from recordings to what they said in front of others. I finally sued them and won.

Well I had thumbed it up but why didn't you ask that guy about the exact circumstance? "Why do you think him maliciously writing up and harassing that officer was ok? Why should he still be trusted after something like that?"
    Your questions kind of sucked.

Then why did you pay $300k as a settlement??
You don't pay over a quarter of a million dollars out when you are sure no wrong was done. That is the most idiotic statement I've ever heard.

Discrimination is discrimination.... PERIOD and it should not be tolerated as DEFINITELY shouldn't be promoted!!!

MILITARY SERVICE is vastly different than a policeman's in that citizens were drafted and those who ENLISTED were often less-educated joining as a last resort having no prior work experience. Most were simply seeking 3 meals daily, and a roof over their head to tell you the truth.
AFTER GETTING OFF THE BUS everyone was stuck with 4 to 6 years of crappy jobs and military servitude with punishments! (VETERANS UNDERSTAND!)
Most enlistees had nothing before joining the service and usually had less coming out! Not many join the service to learn a civilian trade because there aren't many civilian trades to be learned in the military. (Don't tell me how to mop I was in the Navy!)
It’s understandable why multitudes of prior service members seek police jobs and just happy to have a job that pays a living wage after 4 to 6 years of servitude of B.S.! (There will never be a cop shortage!)
Unfortunately, bad cops get hired by other departments and this is a state-wide habitual problem that needs to change!
There is no "Do Not Hire List” of bad people with badges!

❤❤❤❤ for serving to protect us. Can't anyone tell me even pushing a mop making chow or pushing buttons doesn't keep us safe. I know you did. ❤❤❤
The American people have a real problem understanding what our military has gone through, are going through & how to actually help. We have to create training programs and/or schools for vets to attend so you can reintegrate back in to civilian life & still have assistance when needed. Hiring scared vets into positions of such authority isn't helping anyone. IMO.
