There's 2 ways to go if you know the area. You can go in from Holland Hill rd and come out on hwy 199.above Jed smith state park by Hiouchi.

That road goes thru Stout Grove, not jed smith state park. I lived off holland hill road on olive st. Lived there almost 40yrs. We used to walk that road from the house.
Right time of the year there's salmon and huckleberrys along the road to eat. It is a very narrow road. Not many turnouts.
There is a spot to pull over and walk down to a creek on the way in.

Thanks for sharing, I think we’re going soon. I drive log truck on narrow gravel roads with HUGE drop offs I don’t like to look down because it’s so far😂. Just because I’m in the timber industry does not mean I don’t love our trees and forests. If you haven’t, you should come up the Oregon coast the entire way from California to Washington. Give yourself 3 or 4 days to explore! Actually if you took an entire week you could see so much! I could spent two days around Astoria alone with the Peter Iredale shipwreck, Fort Clatsup, fort stevens. The maritime museum and the Columbia lightship tour. The Astoria column and the house the goonies movie was filmed at. There’s much more……
Hello. We did make our way up along Oregon and Washington Coastline. When we were driving along Oregon and Washington Coastline, we saw a lot of logging truck. We have high respect for what you do.
Miller Redwood cut til the last second of the deadline to stop cutting redwoods in this very grove. 95 % of old growth was harvested by greedy assholes. I hauled cut lumber from Oregon all over America and cut redwood from Samoa Island in Eureka California all over America. I hauled logs on a flatbed from California log decks back to Oregon because I’d a log shortage in Oregon. I now hug the trees, and regret my participation in the timber industry.

You had mentioned looking at an Ontour 2.2. As you know it's a couple of feet longer with dual wheels on the back. You could lose some of the agility feel of your present rig.
Hi Jeff. Hi Karen. The adrenaline from the drive definitely made us feel that we were living each day to the fullest for sure. Each adventure makes us feel so alive and we can't wait for the next adventure. As much as we like the idea of being able to run the AC off batteries with the 2024 Pleasure-Way OnTour 2.2, the additional length is a concern. From this drive, and from a recent visit to Kaaterskill Falls in upstate New York which has extremely limited parking, we have come to realize that we really need to stick to the OnTour 2.0 to give us the flexibility to explore without limits. We signed up to attend the Pleasure-Way Rally in PA the middle of September. It will be our first time returning to Hershey RV show since 2019 which was when we saw the OnTour 2.0 for the first time. Where did the time go?
Howland Hill rd was built by logging co to drag redwood logs they had cut from the northern end of the road southward down to their mill on Elk creek near the coast in Crescent City. Why they passed up all the lovely old growth giants along the road as they passed them by day after day, week after month & they never did harvest those is a mystery but we are all glad they did not. We also appreciate the road they left for us. As it passes thru Jed Smith SP I think the park should make it a toll road to raise funds to maintain & build more trails & infrastructure BUT no one asked me.

Hi Noah. Not while we were doing this wild drive through JEDEDIAH SMITH State Park in California. We have had to turn around many times when local underpasses in CT, MA, OH are not tall enough for our 10 foot height. For ground clearance we only have 6 inches. Which means we don't go off roading and go very slow when the road is rough. We got tired of losing our black/grey pipe cap, we now cover it with a midsize ziplock bag and a thick rubber band. Have not lost since.

Sadly the dryer hotter weather will eventually end up destroying these earthly treasures. They used to span much further inland eons ago, but us humans are speeding the process up. Hope everyone takes the time to see them and do what you can to leave this planet better than you found it.
That is sad. So glad we got to see them when we did.
Haven't been there since the late 70s. There is sure ALOT of dead trees and foliage compared to then. There was virtually NOTHING dead back then. Kinda sad.

99.9 % don’t know they drive within a few feet of one of the biggest trees in the park. The Howland Hill Giant hides in plain sight. It’s not marked
If you are on 199 out of Grants Pass turn left on South Fork Road and cross the south fork bridge over the Smith River and then turn right on Howland Hill Road. If you are in Crescent City turn off 101 onto Elk Valley road to Howland Hill Road. Spend money. Sea Quake micro brew and Great Harvest for breakfast. Fisherman’s is good. Port of pints is good. Don’t miss Pebble Beach.

Howland Hill road was a stage coach road to Hiouchi and on to Cave Junction and Grants Pass. The road was also a wagon road pulled by oxen. 8 miles long and a wonder to see. Please drive slow with your headlamps on. Enjoy and go into town and spend money. Crescent City needs the income.
