It's always nice to come back to one's place of origin. I know what you mean. I drive through the neighborhood in the Hollywood Hills where I first grew up ever now and then just to kind of reconnect. Well, it's a couple of days' drive, but Bako is always out here waiting for you. It's 106 degrees today, but at least it's pretty arid as it normally is. No gulf moisture. Thank you for watching the video. Fred : )
Looks like a late winter or early spring run over the hill into L.A., once again, the low clouds in the valley around Bakersfield were telling, as were vehicle shadows being slanted to the north. Greening up nicely going over the pass with snow at the big mountain behind Gorman too, with low clouds ending abruptly at the summit. Thinking a rainstorm had gone through a few days prior. The shortcut you took using the old road and Sepulveda Bl. to get on the I-405 is a cool one, can sometimes save time. Gotta love that US 101 freeway, at least it was moving reasonably well in this video. Thanks Fred!
Yes, thank goodness for alternative routes when things get heavy, MM. This was on February 22, 2024. I love when there is a lot of greenery around like in this video. It has been so hot lately! And the Borel and Park fires are still burning. The Borel is like 82% contained now, which is great. But the Park fire near Chico is still massive. I guess that's where the greenery can lead to later in the summertime. But it's still nice to see in the winter. Thank you for watching the video. Fred : )
Yeah, BN, I remember that day. I think it was an 18 wheeler flatbed truck that had caught fire. Usually those types of problems are seen going uphill, but maybe his breaks overheated and ignited something. You see so many things driving, do you. Thank you for watching the video. Fred : )
What was the point of getting off the 5 so early? I live in Canyon Country so was cool to see you drive through Santa Clarita. Just curious, traffic? It can certainly get bad at the 14 interchange.
Hi pigs3littleones, that day I was listening to KNX news and there was something up ahead, which could not be seen as I'm getting off. I'm not sure that I ended up saving time though because whatever it was didn't turn out to be as big a blockage as they made it out to be. But I always enjoy the old road when I can. Thank you for watching the video! -Fred : )
@@RapidTopography I thought you were thinking of going to In-N-Out but changed your mind. I often take The Old Road too when driving between Northridge/Granada Hills and Santa Clarita.
One of the most boring drives in the country! Flat, 4lane road in the middle of Calif's famous san Juaquin valley. Harris Ranch is a nice stop though near Coolinga.
Love the vid...miss my birth place..Bakersfield. ca..now inn south texas...here it sucks!!

At 5:35, what was going on over on the other side? Was there a vehicle fire? It looks like rising smoke.

Lol. That would have been a much better reason!

Love Harris Ranch!
