Iron Gods was the first Pathfinder AP that I played. And It's a shoe-in for technlogically savvy archetypes (gunchemist, tech-barbarian, galvanic sabouteur ranger among others) as well as the whole gunslinger class. Not to mention that they actually alluded to alot of Numerian tech in wrath of the righteous (the whole blackwater facility, as an example)

Pathfinder is currently getting a revised 2nd edition, and Paizo has made it known they are in predevelopment for Starfinder 2e… which they claim will be 100% compatible with Pathfinder 2e revised. As such I hope for a bunch of 2nd edition games from both systems/time periods.

Player Core 1 and GM Core are already released. The majority of changes for the remaster are in those two books, so the remaster really is already out. There are very few changes to 2e all things said and done. And yes Starfinder 2e will be 100% compatible the "field tests" show this and we should get the full playtest for Starfinder 2 this year, likely around March if I remember correctly when the next convention is

I second Strange Aeons. I think having a Lovecraftian themed fantasy CRPG would be absolutely amazing. You could easily add-on to ot expand the story while keeping the core faithful to the original adventure path. You could easily make it a mythic adventure path and just show how the various cosmic forces on golorian fight, deal with, or at least contain, the dark tapestry/cthulhu mythos.

Sandpoint is the star of the show and becoming a member of that community is the most fun.
we also had a good time having them get into a war with the Hellknights in Magnimar. I even brought in Regill as a major antagonist. Honestly, if owlcat did a "insert an NPC" kickstarter tier for a runelords game i'd do it in a heartbeat :)

  • @brianb.6356

I've played two of the paths on this list in tabletop, and I've really liked both of them.
You can indeed play as a cyborg in Iron Gods, at high levels. The way cybernetics works, and tech items in general, it makes more sense for some items than others. So for instance, it's a pretty good idea to have two cybernetic arms (it doubles your carry weight and gives you +5 to Climb) but almost no reason to have only one cybernetic arm (it only gets you a bonus to CMD against disarm attempts, which you almost never see monsters do anyway).
One thing about Skull & Shackles that you didn't mention is that it's one of the few adventure paths that's compatible with an evil party. But unlike Hell's Vengeance, it's not *only* compatible with an evil party: you *can* be good-aligned because you attack enough evil pirates to get sufficient wealth to buy magic items. (But you can't easily be lawful, which I guess is the big drawback.) Ship combat is not as big a deal as it seems: there's only a handful of cases in the path where ships are directly attacking other ships (and it doesn't work great in tabletop either). Instead most fights against another pirate ship are actually boarding actions where you're fighting the people on the other ship but not directly attacking the ship itself.

  • @Urikanu
    @Urikanu Месяц назад

Skull and Shackles is -great- for an owlcat game. It's super easy to play as 'gentleman pirates', you have loads of NPCs to deal with, there's wide and varied enemies from undead to underwater foes to pirates to eldritch horrors, and you have a ship to manage. Ship combat should be pretty simple to make at least as engaging as the army combat in WotR.
Iron Gods could work, but I think it's a little too... niche.
Hell's Rebels would be awesome, building up the rebellion against the chelish overlords, growing your underground, making allies. It's the polar opposite to Hell's Vengeance and it would be super well suited to this.
Iron Fang Invasion centers around a hobgoblin nation rising and invading neighbouring countries and you are the heroes trying to bring people together to defend against this threat. Super well suited for this style of game!

  • @KainMalice
    @KainMalice 6 месяцев назад +3

My vote is for Skull and Shackles. It has a special place in my heart because its one of the few DnD games where it lasted more than a couple sessions. Went on almost three years to be exact. Also, you can play a “good” character in it, because its more of a neutral grey sort of game. Being evil just gives you better perks, because you are, after all, a pirate. Heck, I played a bounty hunter amongst pirates, and it was pretty fun.

"Rise of the runelords" is a full adventure path, it is thematically followed by the "Shattered Star" AP, and concluded with the "return of the runelords" AP, an could well end in a climactic battle in the return of ancient thassilon .... featuring the partys of all three AP´s. That would make three entire full fledged games, with a final chapter at the end of Game 3 with the option to upload the final heroes of the 2 prior games (or alternatively chose generic Superheroes)... my favorite option for sure :-)
    Thanks for the inspiring content!!

  • @josecruz8803

Iron Gods was super fun to roleplay through as your fantasy characters find technology from spaceships. Plus- there can be guns! This is one of my top choices for a new Owlcat game because I love hidden tech in my fantasy worlds. The other games have only very slightly touched up on the content in this AP and there is much more as to why these ships are here. The issue I see in making this into a video game is that there is nothing in the line kingdom managements, army management, or even mythic paths. They would have to make something up as side content. Maybe an in-depth tech crafting system with things that you find through out the story and/or a ship to repair as the story goes along. Maybe after the ship repairs they can do a DLC in space, which is where Starfinder takes place.

This, I know they made a 40k game bc it’s a lot more popular, but it’s especially clear after playing it that the team was super limited by James Workshop in a lot of the rpg elements people care about. An old world game would be a lot freer, and I wouldn’t mind AoS either

    • @kolosmenus
      @kolosmenus 6 месяцев назад

@@SlanderedGaming I just prefer fantasy settings over sci-fi in general, and Warhammer Fantasy is in my opinion one of the best ones out there.
Especially the way it's portrayed in the RPG rulebooks. Unlike the tabletop wargame it's not about vast armies of super heroes fighting against the forces of chaos. The RPG focuses more on regular people trying to live regular lives in the world where beastmen, horrible mutants and weird magical hijinks are just a normal occurence.
It's sort of about the scale of the stories. You aren't a chosen warrior charging into combat against greater deamons. You can maybe become one eventually. But more likely your starting class will be a peasant, and the first main villain will be the village drunk who accidentally found a mysterious tome that made him go crazy and taught him how to raise his dead dog as a zombie or something

Strange Aeon's is the AP I most want to see be made into a video game because I think the Lovecraftian themed campaign would be awesome! There is a whole psychological system that was introduced just for this AP, which could be used as a side mechanic to have to manage as the great old ones try to mess with your mind.
By the way, all the Pathfinder adventure paths (AP) take place in Golarion, the same world Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous take place in. Iron Gods takes place someplace in Numeria, just northwest at the edge of the Stolen Lands (you can even see a small piece of it on the map in Kingmaker).

  • @dropkickpiper3204

I think the most realistic way we could ever expect to get Hell’s Vengeance would be as an expansion for Hell’s Rebels. Hell’s Rebels involves leading a revolution in a different part of Cheliax than the part you play in Hell’s Vengeance (I think they’re meant to be happening simultaneously. Rebels is catered more to Chaotic and Good types, but it is far more flexible in terms of character ideas. (Besides, remember that Wrath of the Righteous was designed to be the goody goody Paladin adventure and yet you can play as Liches and literal Demons in that game).
Hell’s Vengeance I think would do best as a substantial, meaty expansion for Hell’s Rebels. (Also, Owlcat loves their town building mini games, and I don’t think they could resist adding a mechanic where you establish rebel cells all over the empire).

Rise of the Runelords and Return of the Runelords are not made to be played with the same party. They are 2 different storylines about the same subject (and a continuation of the overall Runelords narrative arc) but they are no sequel if you will.
I'd personnally be very excited for Owlcat to try some second edition adventures (Age of Ashes being one of the interesting ones to be played in a video game).

Man. I would love a Starfinder game. I do enjoy playing Starfinder ttrpg even though language for rules is sometimes so specific in rulebooks that I have to think twice what is written there although I believe Owlcat would be able to make descriptions of special abilities and feats easier. Right now I'm also playing Hell's Vengeance with my friends and even though we started not long ago I'm quite happy with having the ability to play an evil character especially since it's not evil for the sake of evil. Getting back to Starfinder I would love them to make a game based on the story where Azlanti Empire is back in business.

1st pick: I'd like to see them do _Council of Thieves_ because it would be a bit like _Shadows of Amn_ in that it would be largely in a city for major parts, and the "realm building" aspect (an aspect like their other two games) would be working your way into rulership & governance of the city as the campaign progressed.
2nd pick: I'd like to see them do a PF2E campaign (rules, not necessarily having to be a 2E AP. It could be an older AP converted to the new ruurs) that got _Arcane Agent_ back to making recorded content & playthroughs again. Not livestreamed playthroughs - there's too much distracting jibber-jabber with the peanut gallery if it's livestreamed. This too will never happen tho because YT incentivizes "creators" to do livestreams and get stupor-chats while recorded content gives the creator peanuts. I get it but still.

Iron Gods isn't "under where they live" it's up in Numeria. A land full of barbarians, that the silvermount landed on. The Silvermount is a space ship the size of a mountain made of silvery metal and indestructible glass. All it's internal defenses still function, The Technic leage basically hires the barbarians to kill anyone who comes into Numeria, so they, and only they can harvest the "unusual magics" of the ship's technology.
It's the kind of setting where a wand of scorching ray could be a rune inscribed stick, or a laser blaster. Mechanically they're the same, but not in form. The two novels they wrote about their named canon Alchemist character is set there.
Best option I think would just be something with a boat. Can hop on down to Mwangi and fight dinosaurs in the jungle, up to Numeria for some Conan stuff, over to Andoren to try and end the slave trade in Cheliax. Maybe go to Nidal, where the country is half way into the plane of Shadows. The DLC could even be for lvl 20+ and be the trial of the starstone dungeon. Don't pigeonhole into just one place or enemy type again.

It's a fact they had to pay for the IP and didn't get money from WotC, and it was stated publicly by both company (and at least WotC can't lie about that because it would be ground for some kind of fraud charges in the US). Given my PFP, you might be able to guess I'm into the pony stuff, and Ponyfinder has quite a few nice APs in it as well that I would love to see tackled by OwlCat. From the show stuff that involves combat between the Sun Queen and The Night Mare, which is as epic as a duel between two gods is supposed to be.
To some less show accurate stuff that involves infiltrating a city of shapeshifters to find a crystal harness that their evil Queen plans to give as a gift/offering to 'The Unspoken' a creature of utter chaos that will use it to cast another land into terror for a thousand years(Mind that one ends in a pun because the Unspoken is literally chaos, not evil or good, so he gets bored and makes ice cream rain from the sky instead if you fail...yes really).
Like Starfinder it's more of a setting than a single AP, but it's a cool one, especially in how it does all the stuff to deal with a majority population that is quadrupedal rather than bipedal. Not that there aren't some biped races, as the setting still has dozens, from the nine tribes of pony types, some cat like people, and even griffons and hippogriffs.

Rise of the Runelord (Rise) is a favorite AP of mine and there is enough content to make it to level 17. Return of the Runelords (Return) is a sequel but it stats at level 1 and takes the players to level 20. In Return there is some mention of the characters from Rise, but it is assumed that Return has a new party dealing with these new events. Return is worthy of its own full game, and would be worth more if advertised as a sequel to Rise should they decide to make them into video games.

Hell's Vengeance: Honestly, if that's going to be done it feels like it'd be best done as a stand-alone DLC for a different Pathfinder campaign. One that opens up some evil aligned options, characters and races in the 'main' campaign to justify its 'DLC' nature while allowing those who want to to play through that adventure path.
Iron Gods: Gonna be honest, definitely one of those who have issues with crossing fantasy and modern. Firm believer in guns being a fantasy killer. It can be done well, probably but I just can't get past that disconnect.
Skulls & Shackles: Now saying what I did earlier, pirates and what I like to call 'Caribbean adventures' is pretty much by sole major exception when it comes to guns & fantasy. The fact that while being pirates would imply an evil route but doesn't heavily push it like Hell's vengeance means its also probably more acceptable, while would also synergise with a stand-alone DLC styled Hell's vengeance giving those who do take the evil pirate route more options. As for more Good aligned players it probably wouldn't be all that hard to make 'justifiable targets' for them to go after in their pirating, maybe a greedy merchant lord shipping slaves and their produce or a corrupt admiral who sets his fleet to extort the trade lanes holding an island paradise to tyranny. Especially if there's any sort of investigating or rumormongering thing happening to let the player know that they're 'acceptable targets'. Even letting them go after other pirate vessels or sign up with one nation or another as privateers.
Runelords: Don't really know enough about the adventure path to have a firm opinion, but considering what Owlcat has done with other adventure paths I'd just assume outright that it'd be a great game if they made it. Not sure if it really brings anything new or specifically unique though unlike Kingmakers kingdom building, WotR's crusade mechanic, Hell's Vengeance's bad guy (& I assume heavily political/intrigue focus), Skulls and shackles fleetbuilding/pirate lording/'Caribbean adventure' or Iron Gods sci-fi cross/influence. Would be a good game based on whose making it, just worried about it being too generic to stand out on its own. Then again I know basically nothing about it so could be wrong.
Starfinder: The probable reason those who don't like Iron Gods like this is (it feels like) its approaching it from the opposite direction. Rather than inserting sci-fi/modern into fantasy its inserting fantasy elements into sci-fi, if that makes sense. Would still prefer Hell's vengeance or skulls and shackles far more, but I'm one of those people who are actually interested in playing an evil character.

    • @craigbox6918
      @craigbox6918 3 месяца назад

The fact that Hell's vengeance also provides a bit of focus on an enemy type that you're just NOT going to get much focus on in nearly any other adventure path, ie. good aligned outsiders (and to a lesser extent good people as the enemy), is also something that makes me hope for it as those good aligned outsiders aren't really something that you see much of let alone get focus on in more good or neutral aligned campaigns. Why would you when they're not your foes and their interests are way too grandscale to commonly and obviously interfere in whatever adventure the PCs are on.

The issue I have about your first suggestion is that for me (and I assume I'm not alone), roleplaying an evil character isn't easy. I can enjoy it, but only if I can first have my "canon" playthrough where I can be a good person, if that makes sense.
I'm currently going through my second run of WotR as a Lich and I love it. But I probably wouldn't have done it if I didn't have a run who fits who I actually am beforehand.
This is why I couldn't get into Tyranny. I like the concept of being a bad guy in a crpg but I'm a weak willed goody two shoes

Owlcat making a video game using the Starfinder system and setting would be very awesome for so many reasons. First, its a very cool setting and Pathfinder's world of Golarion exists in it. Second, Starfinders system is closer to the Pathfinder 2e system, which is a much more versatile system. In fact, Paizo is remastering Starfinder to be compatible with Pathfinder 2e. But I do agree that making another space game right after Rogue Trader would not be a great idea.

I love being a good guy in an evil place so Hell's Vengeance would really scratch that icht for me. But you're right, chances are it's gonna be a second tyranny, I don't want Owlcat to suffer that setback.
Personally I love it when Sci-Fi and fantasy mix, my favourite setting type is magicpunk/arcanepunk/magitech, but I can see why Owlcat would avoid it.
Not much on Pirates honestly but lots of people like it so it's probably gonna be successfull
Starfinder is actually a different system, it's kind of a SF sister to pathfinder, so that might be complicated
I really hope they do Rise of the Runelords or any content related to the Runelords. Besides all of your points, I feel like this is the best AP where they could add another layer to customization like the Mythic Paths were in Wrath. After having that whole array of toys to play with, returning to an AP that only presents the normal classes and feats feels like a step back, but with the runelords, they could brew their own system that lets you tap into the whole rune element if you choose
To add another one I would like to see that you have not listed, it's gotta be Extinction Curse. One part of this goes heavily into Aroden and the consequences of his ascention and the actions he took. Aroden has been mentioned a bunch in Wrath, especially after the Ulbrig DLC, and I'd like to see more of him. Plus, the whole Circus theme and the enemy variety seems really fun.

Reign of Winter is a great one, you get to travel to Earth during WW1 and fight Rasputin to save Baba Yaga. Enemies include animated tanks (imagine a British Mark IV tank vs typical 15th level adventurers), trench zombies, and the unkillable Rasputin himself.

I'd actually prefer *Hell's Rebels* to *Hell's Vengeance* myself, but that's just because Devil-worshipping fascists are amazing villains; my dream villain game would actually be the third party AP *Way of the Wicked* . That said, a heavily adapted Runelords saga where you work for the coming Runelords (and of course usurp them) was always a bit of a dream of mine.
1125% agree with you on *Iron Gods*, as well as *Skull and Shackles*- honestly, I'd bet good money that if Owlcat adapts another AP, it'd be one of those two. For *Iron Gods*, RT's assets can be adapted to the Numerian assets that Owlcat has already made for WotR, and I think it honestly has some of PF's more interesting characters. For *S&S*, good-aligned pirates can have a good time fighting back colonialists and slavers (as the pirate kingdom lies between Cheliax and its biggest colonial possession, with all that implies) and slavers. Owlcat can also easily adapt RT's ship combat system to *S&S*, so there's that too.
That said, my dream Pathfinder AP to adapt would be *Ruins of Azlant*, and it'd be my biggest nightmare as well, for the same reason in that aquatic combat plays a major role in the AP. I think it'd be cool to try out RPG combat in a 3d environment, but I also acknowledge that it'd be extremely hard to carry off properly.
RE: Starfinder, it's not an AP, but an entirely new setting with its own Adventure Paths! I'd love a Starfinder game for pretty much the reasons you outlined in the video, and of the SF APs I'd like Owlcat to adapt, I'd suggest either *Attack of the Swarm* or *Fly Free or Die* ; the first is a straight up "your home planet is being invaded by bug aliens, are you bad enough dudes to save it?", while the other starts you off as a bunch of ragtag space traders roped into conspiracies and hard moral decisions, which is like catnip to me. *The Threefold Conspiracy* is another favourite of mine, but it's a lot more intrigue focused than the other two I outlined, so it might not be as well-suited for general players.

In Iron Gods they could be repairing a ship on the side with things they find through out the AP and then maybe launch it into space. Then the characters move to a Starfinder setting, being people that have very old tech in their rickety ship with old tech gear scrounged from old ships, while also being pwople from a planet though lost to time in the Starfinder lore. I'm definitely in the Starfinder camp - although it might be a slightly awkward time to release a game for it when they're just about to release Starfinder 2nd Edition which will be as big of a jump as PF2e is to 1e. Regardless of whatever game they do end up going forward with, and I really hope they do go forward with Path/Starfinder, I hope they keep the grid movement system they've used in Rogue Trader! Not having to worry about movement orders going awry and really being able to focus on the tactics of combat has been so refreshing, I'd be sad to go back to the old ways.

I don't think they will go back to pathfinder. From what i saw of the most recent live stream Q and A's it was very clear the management didn't want to return, which is the death knell. Secondly they said the team was burned out which was the only thing i believed. The rest was managerial speak that was just taking up time. It was gross. Outside of that, i would like to see more pathfinder adventures of all kinds, but i don't want owlcat to do it. From what I've seen as a customer I can't trust them to do the adventure paths themselves justice, well or even create them fully functional. Let someone else do it. They had their chance and blew it.

Whatver they will release I will buy it Day 1, and (dont) enjoy the game-breaking bugs. I still love them and their games.

I feel like pirate games have limited appeal for the crpg audience. I really didn't care for the setting in POE 2 compared to the original. Would have definitely preferred to explore just about any other part of Eora particularly the Valian Republics or Aedyr. Never really understood that design choice when basically the entire point of the first game was to be nostalgic for infinity engine titles.

It will be interesting to see if Avowed's setting feels more appropriate.

@@SlanderedGaming yeah I feel like for whatever reason Obsidian keeps choosing to explore frontiers or peripheral areas of that world versus the heart of their civilizations which is where I really want to go. Maybe it's just a matter of not having had the funding to do that scale of game in a more urbanized setting. I'm still excited for avowed but I really hope that now that the are part of Microsoft (and Microsoft saw how much money BG3 just made lol) they get the funding to do a more full scaled massive crpg set there in the future.

Any game they do next I'd like to see less graphomanic and 100% voiced :)
And god please no cutscenes of RT level. I strongly believe that a series of comic-like-slides would be much more interesting and... um... effective?

People like you ruined CRPGs in the early 2000s. I hope that Owlcat will never pander for mainstream peasants, and continue to make classic CRPGs

The more voice acting they the broader an audience they'll be able to reach. I like the RT cutscenes but agree that they need to improve. It's weird seeing the camera focus in on character models faces when they are supposed to be talking but their lips don't move.

@alexanderbakulin8836 Yep, definitely a thing I was doing back in the days. What can be better than a smell of a freshly ruined genre? Especially considering a fact that 100% way to do that is well known - just voice dialogs and make them sound like dialogs. Brrr, terrible thing to do for a game with a lot of dialogs :)

@@SlanderedGaming more voice acting means bad writing. "Voice acting" is one of the biggest problems of modern games. Writers are cutting everything short, to make voice actors read less lines. There's no fully voiced CRPGS that have top notch writing (besides Disco Elysium, that wasn't fully voiced at the start). Just take voice acting away from something like BG 3 and try to read the text, it's awful. I don't care about broader audience, "voice acting", "graphics" and if illiterate people like the game or not. I grew up in the 90s playing Planescape Torment and Fallout, i just want my RPGs to have a compelling story, great world building and interesting dialougues.

@@alexanderbakulin8836 But seriously, you think that 30K concurrent players is worse than 300K or even more? Won't this increase cover a cost of voicing and make a game more popular? I really don't get a problem you speak of.
