1955 年Beeching Plan 已經 cut 到 cut 無可cut . 最住例子係 London Marylebone 經 High Wycombe, Banbury 往伯明翰 的其中一段拆成單軌;去到2000年初先再次變返雙軌運行
其實90年代中鐵路私有化時,鐵路基建部分曾經上市成為 Railtrack PLC, 後來因為發生幾單嚴重意外 Railtrack 宣佈破產被政府接收成為現在的 Network Rail.
