This week I’m finally reading my original Moonknight omnibus. I’m a few Hulk issues away from his number 1. I also read the original 5 issue Marvel Zombies by Kirkman cause the gf has the board game and we played it the other night. I’m chipping away at the original FF as well, I’m on Black Panther’s first appearance right now.
Moon Knight original comics are incredible, he truly is one of the best written Marvel characters from his inception. Happy comic reading, sounds like you have some great material to go through
On the go reading: Wolverine (Texiera), D.P.7, Archer & Armstrong, Justice League International (McGuire). All older titles. Oh and Watching the Watchmen for graphic novel drawing process training.
The problem is simple: They're gimmicks. Not characters. Cheap, short term gimmicks. Not a lot is put into their characters or stories. Take a look at Jon kent and his whole character. The writer basically admitted that they only made him gay for the sake of getting some media buzz. So basically: Jon Kent is clickbait character. Thats what they all are. There to create short term "change" but they don't have any real plans for any of these characters outside of "superman has son". Just look at Trinity. Apparently from interviews the only reason this character exists is because writers wanted a comic where Jon & Damien babysit a kid. So they invented a whole useless character JUST because of that. When they've already got a roster of Wonder Girls that they don't do anything with. More stupid short term decisions that lead nowhere. Crafting a character that stands the test of time requires real life experience, and a strong understanding of humanity, but a lot of people in comics are far too comfy. Far removed from harsh realities of life and stuck in ideological echo chambers for far too long to produce anything worthwhile. Not to mention too damn lazy. Which is why you end up with these low effort bargain bin "replacements" that can't hold a book on their own and nobody gives a shit about.
There does seem to be a belief in modern comics that any press is good press and that is just such a mistake. When the Jon Kent book launched there was so much press, I believe the writer was interviewed on CNN and several mainsteam media outlets and the book was gone and off the shelves within 2 years and now Clark and Lois have even seemingly adopted two younger kids to replace his role completely, Yara Flor was built as the next big thing and instead of having her be developed her book was off the shelves within a few years and we just get another Wonder girl in Trinity simply so the writer can have his character instead of having to have yara flor be in that role, editorial really needs to step in and stop alot of these short term gain long term loss decisions, its not good for the characters or the overall line
I don't like the new characters because a lot of them are woke Self-inserts that delude themselves into thinking they can do a better job than the OG and fail miserably & refuse to admit they suck.
The self insert component of the newer characters is really hurting the characters chances of being successful because its about the author doing something for themself in the story and not for the readers and that is never gonna be successful long term
Certainly seems to be something that a lot of folks are seeing and it is hard to deny. Characters used to be created for the story instead of to address something political.

New characters suck because often times they have a modern day political agenda attached to them, accompanied by terrible writing and bad art.
