Problem with this product is restaurants have to come up with high initial investment while having to maintaining and washing the lids. All that are counterproductive to restaurants. Plus the containers in restaurants are most likely damaged and lids wouldn’t fit tight. Sharks are pretty rude though.

This is long, but worth reading from an insider's point of view. Nah, his product just wasn't worth the risk. If normal plastic wrap is cheaper and more versatile, there's not much of a demand to purchase this product. Even the business model was bad. He actually made less profit than the distributors he sold to. There's no amount of mentoring that could help salvage a flawed product. It didn't even perform as promised during its demonstration. It's barely tested and still unproven. I can tell you as someone who has worked in restaurants that this product is fundamentally flawed and all its testing was done with perfect, undamaged metal or plastic trays. Its entire design is dependent on that. Restaurants will use slightly dented or slightly damaged trays. The corners of those food trays get the most abuse and it isn't uncommon for those corners to bend (metal) or break (plastic) and these covers do not seem to be able to make them more time efficient nor better than traditional, more flexible and versatile plastic wrap. Even some of its "benefits" or "advantages" like being water tight is useless. No one is going to be shaking or turning these things upside-down in a restaurant environment. $28 for a single lid, or even a number of lids is way higher than plastic wrap which can literally cover everything and anything despite size or shape. A single box of restaurant grade plastic cling wrap at 3,000 feet (914 meters) would be more than half the price of any package of these ridiculously expensive over engineered lids. There's a good reason these things suffered massive losses in their third year and why previous customers didn't reorder. There's also good reason these sharks did not choose to invest. The sharks are business savvy and could see the writing on the wall. Even if they didn't consciously know why, the fact the third year dipped in sales told them enough. Add that to the failed demonstration and you have a product dead on arrival. There is no amount of coaching and mentorship which could save this thing. I think the judgement of the sharks is too harsh and unfounded. Even the American sharks would opt out of this product since it is fundamentally flawed, so the criticism of the Australians is unwarranted. I don't see a reason for sharks to invest their time and knowledge to help this guy since his product and business model is fundamentally flawed, making it a risk too high to take. The designs are too specialized, don't work as promised, and too expensive for the end user when a cheaper alternative already exists, performs well enough and is far more versatile in use. Some of the claims like shorter cooking time, dishwasher proof, etc. are unproven.
For context, most of my experience in the restaurant industry was as a refrigeration technician, not as a cook or employee of a restaurant. I've seen the equipment and how used and abused it gets. Being a third party observer it makes it easier for me to both see what this product offers as well as the reality. I may be wrong, working off memory of this video, but I do believe the third year was actually worse than the first year.

@Truth n Logic For the most part no they don't. There is probably a couple reasons behind that. 1. It's a TV show and American's love a great American success story. 2. America is the biggest market in the world so why would they invest in a foreign company? They do invest in foreigners who have moved to America to start their business in America or are bringing their product to the American market. Almost all Sharks, if they invest, want to move the manufacturing of the product to China. Those products are probably hurting today lol.

Most restaurants close after a year. Something like 6% make it past two years.

wrap or foil isn’t going to make or break a restaurant. Plus those lid wouldn’t eliminate the wrap just an extra cost. It would cost you almost $300 just to cover the pans for 1 pizza coolers at the end of the night. Plastic wrap is cheap. It’s a floppy lid. Restaurant already have plastic container with lids to store there food that has a water proof seal. The same company that’s makes those 1/6 pans also makes lids you can cover them with so you don’t have to wrap them at the end of the night that’s what I did only cost me about $3 per lid plus not $10. With them being so flopping definitely will easy get thrown away or lost by your employees or stuck inside your dishwasher, swept under some prep table or lost behind some pans....
I do see them being a good fit for food trucks or maybe Caterers because they would be interested in the water proof seal.

There is no shame in not having the right tools for the job, in this case a killer sales instinct and the ability to take the product to market without getting fleeced by third party sales agents. I feel two sharks could have made a difference by buying 100% of the company and paying the guys a royalty on each piece sold. Also the price as well.. $28 for one of those large lids. It's too expensive - I can buy a 600 metre roll for $25. I can write on clingfilm, I can label it with tape for dates and don't have to worry about residue. It doesn't need to be washed so there's no labor cost, no water cost. I don't see those lids as lasting long term, and in a large scale environment the cost is just too much. Not to mention storage space for when they're not in use.
