This engine build series’s videos have been so relaxing and comfy to watch lol. Thanks for all the good details and info, describing every piece and decision, and keep making more videos!
I agree, he's building his rotary the way I would. I haven't gone turbo with mine yet but my N/A build shares a lot of similarities and if/when I go turbo, this is how it's gonna get done. Keep the primary injectors for drive-ability, small quick spooling turbo, clean up all the emissions stuff, etc.
Please do not build a rotary using this video...
“Typically these motors dont make much torque” Rob Dahm: “Hold my hard cider”
Big lol.
Legit. Rob was making over 1000nm lol
The best part of Rotaries besides the compact block is that we can make them flow air like a V6 just by porting. If you want to make torque on a rotary just change your turbo setup or add spray, the V8 guys run turbo and nos so why not us. Also don't forget that back in the day the banned Full Peripheral port motors because of the unfair amount of power they were making for their classes ☝🏿
Don't sleep on Rotaries
It only took a $80,000+ motor to do so.
@@justinmalone8518 yea but he also made almost 600hp 580ft/lbs on the 2 rotor Corvette Soooooooo 🤔
I love all the lost hairs on DP's jacket
Keep FDs rotary, my guys!
This build is rotating my brain at high RPM keep going please
I always love your videos, especially the ones with Sasha(spelling?) and your track days. Keep up the great work guys :)
I LOVE THIS BUILD! My dream car is an FD with an EFR 8374 that I hope to build in the next few years so I couldn't be happier you chose something so similar! Please don't LS swap it this build is quintessential rotary tuner stuff!!
Loved that ASMR-like transition at 2:38👌
I will support this channel by trying Valvoline on my next oil change.
Not to be all hail-corporate but after Project Farm's oil showdown I'll probably be going with Valvoline from now on. They support Speed Academy and since I've been looking into what makes one oil different from another it seems like a way better value to what I normally put in my cars and motorcycle (mobile 1).
No to ls swapping an fd.
it’s better to kswap them like gear and gasoline :p
agreed it's blasphemy
Jon athan a k series is actually a really good swap. It keeps the driving dynamics close to factory and the engines are just perfect for horsepower and keeping the weight distribution right.
@@josephsamsor1698 You do realize a ls weighs almost the same and sits far back near firewall so really you have great weight distribution and a reliable engine with parts that are dirt cheap. I get wanting to keep the car true to the heritage but to say a LS would be worse in the car just isn't true
Intoeverything I never said it’s worse. The person I was speaking too clearly thought it was a bad option, even though it’s a great option in about every way. For me personally, a well built k series is cooler in a rx7 than an ls but both are good. Personally I’d want to stay rotary since it’s such an expensive car in the first place.
After making that beautiful high compression 2 rotor, to even consider putting an ls in there would break my heart
They say that just in case (which it will) the motor gives out because of lack of balancing and poor measurements on side seals.
That's on them... The poor little FD should not be punished with an ls if they can't build a rotary correctly.
@@israelcardona5170 how do you know it wasnt balanced? Also the side seals were measured fine. Rotaries can and will last
@@minilurk11 never mentioned in the video just like the corrosion on the EVO block was never mentioned either, they didn't use same rotar's with the crank and so that's a no, side seals on RX8 Rotar's need to be properly measured and not just go by feel like they did in the video, also changing out the Flywheel without changing the front counterweight is going to be its big down fall especially they're going to rev it to 10,000 rpm like they said they will...
Nice video 👍🏾, Don’t you dare put an LS in there lol keep it pure Rotary #Dorito Power💯
I just learn a lot from each of your videos! Keep it coming and never stop! Unless you need a break, then take a minute or two and then back to work!
Thank you valvoline for showing what all engine builders do not want anyone else to know!
Speed Academy is quickly becoming my favorite car channel on RUclips. You guys rock!!! 👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥
Glad to see you guys got your Groove back, FD-RX-7 13B build for the win, I’m a big LS fan, but the complexity of the 13B is well worth its effort, and the Rotary Gods will have a reason to smile. Love the Production on the Video. Keep them coming guys. Decades from now these will be the few Online videos that will Motivate new and surviving Motor/Petrol heads, into continuing to build our beloved Internal Combustion Machines. Thanks guys.
If you want an LS get something like a C5 Z06 and leave the Rx-7s rotary!
Something that I see, You mentioned the Phelonic spacers keeping the heat out of the fuel rail which is very smart. However then your routing your fuel line right on top of the engine. I would suggest heat wrapping the Fuel Lines or trying to re route them so they aren't heat soaking on top of the engine. Just my 2 Cents. Love his build series! I can't wait to see this engine running in the car!
That's exactly what I wanted to point out either
You guys make the best car videos on RUclips! Hope you guys get more subscribers. Keep it up!
Thanks for the insight on valvoline's new formula & GF6 standards, just changed my oil and made sure to get the new formula 😎
id really like to see where this goes. hope you guys get continue on this build.
I would build this EXACTLY, RX7 engine, Bridgeport, RX8 rotors, 2 fuel rails + TwinScroll turbo.... soo cool, can’t wait!!
NO LS!😅
!
Don't LS the RX-7! for the love of all that's holy.
I will un-subscribe from any channel that does that lol.
Honestly bro Who puts a muscle car engine in a Japanese car !🤦🏻♂️😂
@@BarnsB_23 I did. I regretted it and got another rotary car.
The valvoline section was so funny🤣🤣, dp's hair though
These engines look so alien its crazy!!
You guys are great. Mike from Japan
Loving this series!
Great build. Love the openness of the sponsorship and how you integrate it into the content. I have worked in advertising for over 15 years and seen a lot of things done much more poorly from so called 'professional' ad peeps.
Bring on the modern FD build. It's good to see the platform "mature". I'm curious about the premix ratio, 100:1? Don't do an LS swap, do a C6 build now that those are cheap enough.
Love the rotary vids, great work guys
So many beautiful parts 🤩 it's like Rotary Christmas 🎄
I will never own a rotary but still loving this build. Well done guys, very interesting and entertaining.
This show is pure gold.
No to LS swap please 🤮
Dam EFR, the first time I have seen one of the channels I follow use one.
Most go Garrett.
Can’t wait for the build!
Favorite series on RUclips right now. Keep it coming!
need more videos on this build!!
Sent by the banditos. Sweet content!
Don't you dare put a LS in that car. I die a little inside every time I see a LS swapped RX-7.
Love the videos a lot they explain a lot too like the build
Show me ONE person who's ever only replaced that removable friction surface on the flywheel! Haha
I have a similar flywheel to what he has and I have replaced the friction surface. It is proven to be quite handy.
Video quality seems to have improved, good work
In fact you don’t need to many fancy parts for reach high rpm on rotary engines. Just need good apex seals, coils and fuel pump and you are on it. Good information on this video. 👍👍
DP with the weight loss! Nice
Got keep the rotary for at least 3 engine rebuilds, then flipout and LS swap. RX7 without rotary is hardtop Miata. All jokes aside, looks like fun engine package. It’s going to be fast.
I remember being at Westwood race track back in the late 80s. For get his name, Toivo I think... he had a old Mazda with a rotory that thing was in INSANE! and the sound of that car was amazing!
Another great video! Is that a new Speed Academy hat? Love it, want it, let me buy it!
Lol @ the end
The hard part is done, don't you dare put an ls in now😂😂
Really enjoying the ASMR style of the video 👍🏻
Looking forward to the final product, love the video👌👌👌
Guys, that EFR7670 0.92 A/R will top out before 6750 RPM as EMAP starts to overwhelm it. You'll be running a TON of backpressure by 10k RPM. Realistically your needs would have been best met by an EFR 8374/8474 with an external wastegated (dual 40 or 44mm) on the 1.05 A/R housing. For anyone reading this, larger porting = more sensitive to backpressure. Larger turbine wheels are necessary comparatively to a reciprocating engine.
I love the 7670 on my FD. My car on e85 makes 400hp/400tq on a stock motor
Not bad, I guess 400WHP is pretty much the limit of the turbo and response is stock-like?
aDaWaN
Lucky7 made 450whp on the same turbo with a street port.
I would say response is better then stock
I like this build series, hopefully we see a lot of use out of the car
Love this channel and this series, I like the style of this series
LS engine....them's fightin' words young man! Okay I know you're joking of course (you better be lol), but rotary is the way!
This series has been fantastic and takes me back, I need another rotary in my life, I miss it very much. It'll change soon enough.
Lovely build. Simplification looks so damn good
Damn this is going to be a sick build! Also them sponsorship commercials are funny keep up the great work!
Great build!
ayy the asmr style build is nice, none of that music
if you pre mix you need to drive like a 2 stroke; never engine braking. If you leave the oil metering pump you can add a secondary oil tank that feeds it with 2 stroke oil ;)
While the valvoline breaks are hilarious "wooo!" Not sure how that fuel system is original 😂
In the words of the well articulative Busta Ryhmes - Gimme some mo'! (waiting for next step!
man those commercials are epic! :D :D
Great stuff as always. I'm sorry the channel isn't living up to your expectations because I love it.
No on the LS from me. Loved the build series guys! Definitely picking up that oil pan
What about a turbo blanket guys? Seems like the exhaust and turbine housing are really close to the lower intake. So excited to see the build!
Loving the series guys, really looking forward to seeing the rx7 run!
Really looking forward to the next videos!
you guys should talk to the guys at rotary science and angel motorsport about lightening the rotors, and shaving the tips of the rotors, maybe scalloping them aswell
Hair looks good on you Dave
The weight reduction on Dave is awesome
Another great video! I'm loving this build.
Can’t wait to see the V mount setup
I bought some Valvoline today only because of this channel. I normally would buy something else.
Love the EFR, I have the 6258 on my focus ST and it was a much needed change !! Cant wait to see what you do with this, been thinking about going single with my 1JZ and using a Borg on it.
Im buying Valvoline today!
Best notification to get!!!
An LFX would be fascinating!
Another excellent video, thanks for producing this content :)
DP on some good diet/exercise plan! Make me Wana lose some pounds myself!
Thank you so much. You just helped me on what to buy for my build
I’m looking forward to seeing how much the engine build costs. Great stuff guys.
Spooly boy ! lol can’t wait to see the fd running !
There’s no way I watched this build series just for you to put pistons in an FD
looking great! good video keep this project going!
Alway love the content that u give us.. thanks🍻🍻 keep it up guys
don't matter what you pick, but I personally would stick to the rotary, love that sound of the rev's.
If you’re going to ever put another motor in an FD you should do a turbo K20 or k24 setup
Good video!
Nice Valvolene commercial.
The oil weight matches with what I've heard for my rotary. 10w-30 for sub 70° F outdoor temps and 20w-40 or 20w-50 for weather above 70° F. TBH... I just change the oil often and premix a healthy amount. No problems so far!
PREMIX???? You have to be monumentally stupid to pour the wrong oil down the wrong filler hole...
Learn to read the label on a bottle of oil son.
@@sandervanderkammen9230 yes.. premix
@@MainBahamian Stupid is as stupid does...
Looks like a good build. The 7670 will start to run out of steam at about 6500 RPM. If you want 10,000 RPM and to actually make power after c.7500 RPM then you'll want s much bigger turbo like the 9180, 9280 or even the big hp maker S472/S475. Granted those won't deliver the same type of response and those turbos are built for 600+ hp.
DP torqueing up those bolts... "Make the noise!"
Man that engine is sweet is like to put that in my 88 Rx 7. Go Valvoline 20/50 I'll put that in mine for sure.. But not synthetic
You should have put a camshaft or some valves on the thumbnail, just to troll people. ;)
Great content.!!
That intake manifold would looks good in wrinkle black!
Please don't LS the RX-7 BUT I'd love to see an LS 6.0 build on your channel!
